Sean in Nets

This is a video of Sean in nets (white jersey is his team) at a tournament they played in last weekend. They had no goalie for that game, and asked the kids and Sean volunteered. At this level (MAHG 2) all the kids rotate getting a turn being goalie. (He loves all things about goalie). Anyhow, I didn't get to go to the tournament, as it was held at 8 am, and I had 2 kids still sleeping at that hour. In this video, from the 3 shots on Sean's net, he saves 2 of them! (The 2nd two). He played quite well in nets. (Not sure how I feel about him making this a regular thing - goalie equipment is quite expensive!) GO SEAN GO!

My baby is walking!

Quentin has been taking steps over the last few days. (After a few steps, he ends up on his bum). He needs a bit of practice, but he'll be walking (rather running) before I know it. While we're very excited for him to be walking already, it means a whole other level of baby proofing. It's also bitter sweet, because since he's my baby, I'm not ready for him to grow up this quickly.

Modifications & Notes: I learned how to do foundation double crochet as well as learned how to do Long Spike Single Crochet/Spike Single Crochet with some help of some youtube videos and a dear friend N. I ended up doing 145 Fdc instead of what was called for in the pattern, to reach 70". The braiding was fun, but required 2 of us - one to hold (N) and then I was able to braid.
It's super warm, it was a fairly easy pattern to work up, and I LOVE the color.

I’ve been loving the different camera apps on my iPhone lately. I’ve been playing around with Hipstamatic (which I think was on sale for .99¢ when I got it). Love the look you can give an image with the photo apps. This photo was taken 3 days ago, during bath time. The boys got a new hot wheel toy that can go in the bath, and they were playing with it, and I caught this image.

Sean’s Dance

Edited 01/18/12: I learned that it's a Lebanese dance, not Armenian. The kids have been learning about things that are Lebanese at daycare right now. This is Sean's version of a dance he learned.

You Know You Need A Haircut When…

You know you need a hair cut when... your kids either look like Kramer from Seinfeld or start growing a mullet! I took the kids over winter break for much needed haircuts. It was Quentin's first official haircut (besides the time we "fixed" his hair because of the odd way it grew in after they shaved half his head at birth - due to an IV drip). He was soooo good, I was shocked. First boy of mine to not cry/or fuss at his first haircut. He let the lady cut without a single issue. He really is the best baby ever. Project 365 + 1

Last year I did Project 365, and stuck to it, for an entire year! I can't believe that I actually took a photo a day, for an entire year. Mind you, it's not that hard, being a photographer, and always having at least 2 cameras on me, at all times. (Always at least have my pocket camera, and my iphone camera on me).

And this year, I'm trying it again. Project 365+1. I've got Instagram (free) on my side, which is fun to use, and as well, Photo365 app too (.99¢). I'm ready to rock'n'roll for another full year of taking pictures every day. I was thinking of sitting out this year, as life got crazy busy, but I think I can manage a photo a day... to keep me on my toes. So pop on over to my 365+1 blog, and follow me there too! Rapunzel Scarf Start

Just the other day, I started this Rapunzel Scarf after seeing it on the cover of Crochet Accessories 2011 magazine. The issue, I had gotten for free with a gift certificate from Zinio. Not too sure what else I'd make in the magazine issue, but this scarf, I drooled over. (Originally thinking it was a cowl, by the way it looked on the cover. Totally thinking of making it as a cowl, next).

Love the color of the yarn and I’m loving this scarf so far. I've even learned a new technique, how do Foundation Double Crochet (fdc). It's a pretty cool technique! (It's kind of like doing a long tail cast on, so you're first row is done).

I bought this yarn from Ariadne before they closed and the two skeins that were skeined, are new, but it seems the one that I bought in the cake (it was apparently wound into a cake but then decided to sell it instead of keep it), I thought was brand new, but now using it from the center pull ball, it seems that the yarn was already knitted up, as it’s all wonky from being frogged. I'm not to happy about this, as I was told it was brand new, but I'm hoping that while working with it, it's not affected. So far, you can't really tell from what I've crochet, that the yarn was used. (And I'm holding it double stranded).

I've got 2 of the 5 stands worked up. This seems to be going fast!

2011 Knitting & Crochet Review

While I didn't reach my 2011 knitting & crochet goals (to surpass what I knit & crochet in 2010), I realized that in 2010, for 11/12 of the year, I had only 2 children, and was on modified activity (practical bed rest) for half the year, with Quentin's high risk pregnancy. Last year I knit & crochet 37 projects. This year, I knit & crochet 21 projects (2 of the hats, the green & pink pom pom ones, I made 2 of them, in 2 different sizes). Well, this year, I plan to hopefully knit & crochet more. If you are not my friend on Ravelry, and would like to be, I'm Knitpurlmama, just add me as a friend!

Holiday Cheer

I finally got the chance to take a look at what was on my camera last night, and there were some adorable pictures of Mr. Q Claus from Christmas Day. Sean wore this suit on his 1st Christmas in 2007. (Yes, that's the same kid in both those links on the same day!) Mack, on the other hand was only 6 months old at his first Christmas, so he had this adorable (yet similar) suit (in another size). This is the last time I'll ever be able to dress up a child for Christmas without getting their opinion. Jamie says that the boys will probably not like me later on in life for these pictures, but I think they are just the cutest in the outfit.

Five

Sean the day he was born, December 28th, 2006.
He was born at 4:44 am, 5 lbs 5 oz.

On his first birthday, in 2007.

His 2nd birthday, in 2008.

His 3rd birthday in 2009.

His 4th birthday in 2010.

And this morning on his 5th birthday.

He got spoiled with some puzzles (3d Spongebob, a Star Wars & a Transformers puzzle that each came with an action figure too), 3 different sets of Thomas the Train Tracks (which we spent all morning putting together an entire huge track in my bedroom (will post about that soon, it was quite awesome!) and a Martin Brodeur Team Canada goalie figurine (which is his fave part of his present he says).

I cannot believe my first born is five today. FIVE! Such a big number. I still feel like I just brought him home from the hospital yesterday. (Let alone 2 more boys after him). He had a party with some friends a few weeks back, and a handful of those friends actually slept over. He had a blast! Sean is a smart, energetic, amazing person, and I am so glad that he is my son. Mommy & daddy love you! xo

(Though really only a couple of hours, but my knitting time is limited these days).
Modifications & Notes: Cast on 100 sts, after trying with 80 sts and it being too small. I re-cast on, and did 5 rows of the chart, and it’s just just fitting for (almost!) 5 year old Sean. I also changed it up and did 2x2 ribbing for 10 rows before starting the chart. I don't love color work, but this was easy in the end.

Chrismukah

Santa has come to visit, milk, cookies & carrots for the reindeer have been left out by the fireplace. The kids are going to be super surprised when they wake up tomorrow!

We celebrate both Chanukah & Christmas. I hung some dreidles on our tree. Next year, I plan to knit up some handmade ornaments (I thought about it this year, but ran out of time).

And we’ve been lighting the menorah each night. There are just a few nights left of Chanukah. Things have been busy around here, and while the holidays are fun, I can’t wait until after the holidays, so we can sit back & relax.

Holidays

Recently, Mackenzie asked us with a pretty please for a Christmas tree. He's been singing Jingle Bells on almost a daily basis as well. So, when I was out, after doing some research on prices, I came across this tree, included with 350 lights, on sale, so I bought it. I haven't had a Christmas tree since Jamie & I lived in an apartment before we got married. We always have a Christmas tree at Jamie's step-sister's house, so we've never put up a tree before. (You see, we are (non practicing) Jews, and we celebrate Christmas - Jamie's entire step-family is not Jewish).

So today, Mackenzie and I (with a little bit of help from Sean), spent a good 2 hours decorating our 6.5 foot tree. I think it looks darn amazing. Now, I just need to find the time to wrap some presents to put under the tree.

Mackenzie made us promise that we would not make a fire (in our fireplace) on Christmas, or Santa Clause will get burned and won't be able to come down our chimney. Oh, to be the age again where you believe in the miracle of Santa Clause. Mackenzie, if you are reading this one day, you made mommy & daddy's heart melt when you said this. You are just too delicious.

Since Christmas Eve is on a Saturday night, there is a good chance that we indeed will have a fire going, so we will have to promise Mackenzie that we will make sure the fire is well put out before midnight, so that Santa Clause can come down the chimney and bring him toys. I guess that means we'll have to leave out cookies for him too? And a glass of milk, of course. He's got to be able to wash down those cookies!

Canadian Family

Look what arrived in the mail yesterday. No, unfortunately you cannot get your own copy of this, it was a special treat just for me. You see, I renewed my subscription, and they let me make my own cover for the December issue. (Just the cover, the rest of the magazine is as it is on stands). I had completely forgotten about this too - until it arrived in the mail yesterday! I plan on getting the cover put on a plaque or something to hang up in my office. It's just so cute not to! (And the titles they had on the cover for options, totally suited my kids!)

Knitting Oops

I’ve been having some knitting whoopses lately. First, when I started this hat, for Sean, I wasn’t paying attention to what I was doing, and started knitting the wrong way back on a row (in the round), so one side started to grow, while the other side wasn’t. So I had to rip that out. (Sorry for the crappy cell phone picture above, I was out and only had my iphone camera – shocker, I know).

Then, I got this far, (2 repeats in), and tried it on Sean, to discover that it not only doesn’t fit Sean, but if it were in the right colors for Mackenzie, it doesn’t fit him either…. Sigh!

So, I’m back to square one. I’ve started it again, with more stitches. Let’s pray this one fits. Even advanced knitters have off moments too, you know.

Conversation with Sean

This afternoon, on our way home from Sean's 5th birthday annual check-up (and Quentin's 1 year annual check-up too - everyone's perfectly healthy & on track), I made a pit stop at Fabricville to see if I could find some iron-on/sew-on patches for 2 pairs of pants that have holes in them (one belonging to Sean & one belonging to Mackenzie). I've been trying to hunt down patches for a while now (and ones that the boys would like on their pants), and I finally found a few choices at Fabricville.

Upon leaving the store, with Sean & Quentin, Sean says to me:

Sean: "What's the name of this store?"
Me: "Fabricville".
Sean: "Fabric what?"
Me: "It's a fabric store, where I buy material and sewing accessories to make things".
Sean: "You're the best girl in the world."
Me: "That's so nice of you to say Sean, why do you say that?"
Sean: "Because you make me awesome things".

Awesome. My kid thinks I'm awesome. I'll remember this conversation forever.

Random Acts of Kindness

I was pleasantly surprised at lunch time on Sunday by a random act of kindness by a stranger. I got to the cash at a store to make a purchase, and realized I left my wallet at home. So I left the item at the cash (was planning to go home, grab my wallet (which was in my knitting bag) and return to pay for it) and as I'm putting Quentin in the car in his car seat, a lady comes chasing after me. She bought my item and wished me a Happy Holidays. I was shocked. That was so nice of her! That totally made my day.

This totally restored some of my faith in the kindness of others. While a lot of people out there lack respect and other qualities that people should have, there are still some kind people out there in this world.

I am on the lookout now for a way I can pay it forward. And I plan to do more than one act of paying it forward.

Stuffed Peppers

I tried a new recipe this week :: Stuffed Peppers.

While it took a lot longer than I anticipated to make, the end result was worth it.

It was beyond yummy! And leftovers the next day for lunch was great too! I will definitely make this again, and I hope to try to make one new recipe a week (as long as time permits). My cookbook? The Internet! There are SO many great recipes out there. Where to begin?

Star Goalie

Sean was goalie today. Every game they rotate which kid on the team is goalie. He had a BLAST! His team won 2-1. I was so proud of him, his first time in nets. He recently got moved up to the next level since he was too good for the level he was in. I'm so unbelievable proud of him. He has dreams to play in the NHL. Let's see if he can make his dreams come true!

Too Many Firsts

On his first birthday yesterday:

First time forward facing in the car.
(I think he was more confused than anything!)

First big boy bath in the bathroom.

(He was getting bathed in a newborn tub in my bathroom for the first 5 months, and then he moved to the kitchen sink until yesterday. He had an entire tub to play in, he was in heaven!)

And first time standing unassisted, for more than a second. This picture I captured, I think he stood for a good 10-15 seconds, because he went to grab another toy, and plopped down.

Quentin’s 1st Birthday

Quentin is one today.
He was born a year ago, at 10:27 am.
Boy, does time fly. I feel like just yesterday he was born.

Quentin's had a fab day. Morning music class, visiting a friend with a new baby, lunch with his 2 best buddies, and an afternoon nap. Not sure what this evening holds, but it'll be a quiet dinner with just us.

Over the weekend we had a party for him with all of his friends. We had a lot of fun.

I can't believe my baby is one. My last baby. It's so upsetting, really, while it's amazing to watch him grow at the same time. No more first birthdays in our house. While I am glad that the whole party planning is over for now (besides Sean's small birthday party next month with a few of his friends), it's just all bittersweet.

A Year Ago

Quentin enjoying birthday cake last night.

A year ago right now, my water broke on the exam table at the hospital. I was leaking amniotic fluid, they checked me, they were going to send me home, but then, a minute after the doctor left the room, my water broke all over the table. We told Quentin he had to stay in until after the Anne Hanson workshop (Saturday, November 27th, 2010) and had to hang in until after Jamie's poker tournament (Sunday, November 28th, 2010), and then, on Monday, November 29th, my water broke. At least he listened! I wasn't due for another month, but Quentin decided he didn't want to share a birthday month with anyone in his house (Sean & Jamie share December birthdays, and Mackenzie & I share June), and made an appearance the last day of November.

Tomorrow, Quentin turns 1. My baby turns 1. I'm so not ready.

Off to go hyperventilate....

Patience

Modifications & Notes: Loved working on this - though it went a little slow. Each row went very slowly, as there were 450 stitches per row. I have been wearing it out since it was finished, and I love it. It was absolutely worth the long never-ending rows!

Mystery Quilt Progress

So finally, here are some pictures of my mystery quilt blocks.

And this is the background color that is throughout a lot of the patches. I can't wait to see how this quilt will all come together, I'm very excited. I've been spending HOURS cutting with my rotary cutter (love that tool!) on my cutting mat with my rotary cutting ruler. One fat quarter, I had to replace because somehow I screwed up and ended up with smaller blocks than what I was supposed to have. (Learned my lesson there! And I'm learning a lot about precision & patience).

I'm currently working on week 4 & week 5's clues. Week 5 ends the last of the mystery clues, and next class (next week) our teacher is going to show us the options of how it can all go together. I still have a few more hours of work to do for week 4 & week 5's clue (which we got together last class). I am hoping to have some time before the next class to finish all the sewing & cross-cutting.

I am also hoping that I have enough time to finish this quilt before the last class. I won't be able to take the class again next session as it falls during Quentin's nap time, and there are no cribs in the daycare at the place I'm taking the classes at (as they offer babysitting services, which I am currently using this session, since the class is in the morning). But since Quentin only naps once a day now, in the afternoons, I cannot continue the class and am really hoping that I have time to finish it in this session. The class said it was open to all levels of quilters, but honestly, it was more for people whom have quilted before. I've sewn before, so I was able to catch on, but I'm taking the class with a friend who had never sewn by machine before, and it's been a bit harder on her this class.

I am already thinking about what my next quilt will be!

Thrifting Fun

I've been thrifting lately, and I've been finding some good deals too.

First, on Craigslist, I found a mom selling these silicone ice cube trays. I've been looking for silicone ones, as they can be put in the oven. I've been wanting to melt down our crayon bits (that I have been saving for years) into new crayons. These Sesame Street trays used to sell at our local dollar store for a buck each. I scored these, plus 4 regular trays, which I will give to a friend who is freezing baby food for her child, for 1$ for all 9 trays.

Then, I found both this awesome puzzle piece tray & skull head tray at a local thrift shop. I am super excited to make puzzle piece crayons! (Or even puzzle piece chocolate!) These were .99¢ each. The puzzle piece is apparently from Ikea.

I am still on the lookout for other funky silicone trays. I think it would be fun to make a bunch of assorted shaped crayons with our broken crayon bits.

At the same thrift store, I found some super hero figures (and some other random toys) for my boys for a ridiculously cheap price. The new batmans and spidermans were a huge hit. A run through the dishwasher to clean & sterilize them, and we were good to go.

I also found, one "I ♥ # 1 son" frame. I had gotten 2 of them after Mack was born, and when I went back to see if the local dollar store (where I found these frames from), had another one after Quentin was born, they did not. I found one, in mint condition, still in it's original packaging, at the thrift store, and was more excited than you can imagine. I paid .99¢ for it, which it would have cost 1$ at the dollar store. I didn't care I was paying full price for this at the thrift store, because I've been hunting one down... forever! This score made my day. (And no, the picture frame on the lower shelf of this image, with the 2 boys in black & white, that's not my kids. It's a frame that I need to put in pictures of my kids!) I was debating whether to take the pics of Mack & Sean out, and just keep 1 frame and put a picture of all 3 boys together, until I found a frame the other day. Now they each can have their own frame. I do need to update the pictures of Sean & Mack, those are a tad outdated.

Lastly, for ridiculously inexpensive, I score a Sophie. I can't recall how much exactly she cost, as she was in a bag with other toys (action figures). Sophie retails 25$ (or so) plus taxes. Right now I have her for sale on Craigslist, as I've sterilized her and she's in excellent condition. Quentin has a Sophie, and I even have a back up Sophie (new in box) in case we lose our Sophie. (Sophie came out when Mack was starting to teeth - around 7 months old. I bought him a Sophie at full price. Then he lost Sophie. He loved that thing. When he started to chew on his friends Sophie, I decided that I should indeed replace the lost Sophie. So I did. And that's Quentin's Sophie now. (I didn't know of Sophie when Sean was teething). Anyhow, while I was pregnant with Quentin, there was a deal on Sophie, so I bought it, and figured that if I don't ever need it as a back up for a lost Sophie, then I can use it as a gift, as it's new in box. I am sure that this Sophie above will be sold before I know it. I don't think that the thrift shop even realized how valuable Sophie is. It was just mixed in with a bunch of action figures, for very inexpensive... And that was my score!

I keep wanting to go back to the thrift store to see what other finds there are. It's so thrilling!

Vestee

A long time ago, I knit Vestee.

I started it in mid-summer & finished it just a few short weeks before Quentin was born. It was for a class I was taking the summer before last.

The sweater was deemed to be 12 month size.

It's about correct. Quentin is now just over 20 lbs, wearing 12 month clothing.

And it fit him well. He's soooo cute in it.
He wore it out to our music class on Wednesday, and got compliments galore. Too bad he's not old enough to say "My mommy made it!"

Bedroom Reorganization

We finally got rid of the changing table in the boys room. In its place, I moved the bookcase that was already there. I also re-organized all the book in the boys room (apparently they have A LOT of books!) We read the boys a story every night before bed. They also a big readers and like looking through books at other times during the day. (I'm glad that they love books!) So, in honor of Mack being potty trained, and getting rid of the changing table, I got the boys a second bookcase & we totally re-organized their entire room. I can't believe how clean their room is now. I love it. Let's see how long their room can stay organized for.

Bottling Up Laughter

Party Number 1

Sunday we had the first celebration for Quentin's birthday. We celebrated with family. We celebrated early, because my grandmother goes to Florida for the winter. Normally she'd be gone already, but agreed to stay a few more days if Quentin's birthday party was early. So that she could be there, we made it 2 (and a bit) weeks early. (Quentin sported the same vest Sean did for his 1st birthday! Mack's birthday is in June, and it was way too hot for him to wear the same thing to his birthday, and Mackenzie was still in 9 month clothing at his 1st birthday, where this vest is 12-18 month size). It was a bit big, but worked nonetheless.

Quentin had a great time!

As did his brothers & cousin.

I changed Quentin before cake. Especially since my step-mother-in-law made him his very own cake (for him to dig into).

(I love this picture!) (And unfortunately we didn't get a single picture of the 5 of us that came out. We'll have to try again at party #2, with friends, which is coming up later this month).

Quentin actually tried to grab the flame! He was so fascinated by it!

And then got to dig into his very own chocolate cake.

Oh, he had a field day!

I think we have another chocoholic on our hands.

Quentin got spoiled by his family.
He is truly blessed (as are all my boys).

The look on his face when opening gifts, was truly priceless.

Quilt Class

I started a Quilting Class with one of my two best friends back in October. We're doing a mystery quilt for our first quilt ever. We're both the only 2 beginners in this class. At first it was very intimidating, but now, it's getting to be a lot of fun. We've gotten our clues for week 1 and week 2. I've done all my cutting for for both the weeks, and I've started sewing my strip sets together. After I finish the sewing, I have to do some cross cutting. I'm learning all these new terms, and I'm loving it. The class itself though, is a complete waste of time, and the teacher, tries to get you to go to the quilt shop she works at to buy her products/material, etc. I am only attending the classes to get the weekly clues for the quilt, to spend some time with my best friend, and some time for myself, away from the kids. The center where I am taking the course offers babysitting, so Quentin goes into the babysitting room while I'm in class. We're supposed to be doing a wall hanging in the class as well, but I think I want to focus on just one project at a time, rather than get myself overwhelmed with 2 projects. I took the class to learn how to make quilts - not wall hangings. There are really advanced techniques being used on the wall hanging, that are a bit too much for a beginner, I think. I'm really glad I finally started a class - I've been wanting to learn to quilt for years. It's one of the reasons I got a sewing machine in the first place - which was a gift for my 21st birthday from my parents. (I have a Kenmore, and it does the trick!)

Getting There

I’m absolutely loving how my linen stitch scarf is coming out.

I can’t wait to be finished it already, and wear it!

I’m pretty much at 4” of the 5” that the pattern calls for. I’m going to decide 100% when I’m at 5” if I want to make it any wider. We’ll see. I’m still debating it.

And I’m loving the way so far it feels while ~~test~~ “wearing” it.

We’ve Got 7

As my maternity leave is coming to an end (this is my last week on maternity leave), I'm trying to spend as much quality time with Quentin. I know he doesn't start daycare until he's 18 months old (as we don't have a spot for him until then, as the daycare Sean & Mack go to, will only take kids 18 months +), but it won't be the same anymore, as I will be back to work, even if it's with him.

Since he's my last baby, (as my shop is closed), I'm trying to savor every moment. (Above, is Quentin's shy/flirt/cute face/pose. He tilts his head and does this shy thing. Melts my heart.)

Over the weekend, spilling into the week, Quentin went from having 4 teeth (front top & front bottom), to having 7 teeth. 3 new teeth sprouted in the span of 4 days. The bottom two come out first, then the top one just poked through on the right side (if you're facing him). Even though he's got a bunch of teeth now, I'm trying to get him to eat more solids over purėe. Working.on.it. In a jam the other night, I discovered he absolutely LOVES Alphaghetti. Who wouldn't!

He's always smiles. (Seriously). I'm extremely blessed.

Family Feud

One of my fave apps on my iphone is Family Feud. You have have a Facebook account to play the game (why, I'm not entirely sure), and I've been addicted. It's so much fun to play. Sometimes there are questions that are absolutely hysterical. And others, that are very very interesting.

This one (above) in particular, was a board that I had. Some of the answers on this board, made me laugh out loud very loudly. If you're married, with kids, a job, etc... you might find some of the items on this list amusing too. Yes, we share the parenting, and the driving in our house. However, he does the garbage, and I do most of the cooking, all of the dishes, and all the housework (that our cleaning lady doesn't do). Take turns doing....? Ha... in what world would that actually happen?

Then there was this board. "Name something many parents want children to learn at a young age". While my kids are not in school yet (to study), I guess I'm right on track with everything else. Phew!

Medication

I started medication last night. I’ve got bronchitis. It started as a bad cold, over the weekend. It got worse and then a bit better, but then I caught a cough. I’ve seen better days. These 6 pills are darn expensive too – but they’re already making me feel better, so that’s all that matters. As a mother of 3, I don’t have time to be sick.

9 Years Old

This past weekend, we drove up to my sister-in-law's house, after Sean's Saturday morning hockey practice, to celebrate my nephew's 9th birthday. He turns 9 next week. We haven't been up to St-Joseph-de-Beauce, Quėbec in 2 years. Last year, they came to us in Montreal to celebrate my nephew's 8th birthday, as I was very pregnant with Quentin. The last time I was in Beauce, I think is going on 3 years. (I can't believe I'm saying 3 years). I thought I went to my nephew's 7th birthday, but Mack was home sick - so I spent the weekend with him, and Jamie took Sean to visit. Wow, I think the last time I was in Beauce was November 2008. I can't believe its been that long. (Though, we were there Labor Day weekend 08 & November 08). I will not let it be long again between visits. The kids had an absolute blast with their cousins.

Quentin in my fave 12 month outfit. (Yep, finally got rid of all his 6-12 month & 9 month clothing, and pulled out his 12 month wardrobe). (Here's Mack wearing this same outfit, at 15 months old! Mack was tiny!)

Quentin spent the weekend in the arms of my sister-in-law's boyfriend's daughter. She's in the 7th grade, and feel in love with Quentin. (Which gave me hands free to knit!)

Quentin also watched hockey with my sister-in-law's boyfriend's son. They absolutely adored Quentin, as well as Sean & Mackenzie.

Saturday night, we drove an hour to St-Ephrem-de-Beauce, to watch my nephew's hockey game. He's a goalie, and Sean is absolutely admired by this. It was a really intense game, they tied 5-5. We sat on the edge of the seat the entire game. My nephew played the 2nd half of the game in nets, and the other goalie played equally the first half.

I am not a fan of overalls... at all. But this pair, something about them, (and the fact that all 3 boys have now worn them), I just love this pair. (Sean enjoying these overalls & Mack wearing them too!)

The boys spent some of Sunday chasing chickens (and one rooster) in the yard. My sister-in-law has a bunch that produce eggs, and we got to go home with a dozen eggs. Fresh, organic eggs are awesome.

The ride home started out as peaceful. (It's a 4 hour drive). At one point, all 4 boys were out cold, napping (including Jamie). However, at one point, Quentin decided he had enough of his car seat and didn't want to be in it, period. He SCREAMED. Nothing soothed him. He didn't want a bottle. He didn't want a snack. He wanted out of his car seat. He screamed for almost 2 hours. He's never been like this before! It wasn't Quentin. Very very strange. He wore himself out and fell asleep, however it took almost 2 hours. And I think Sean must have drank a pool full of juices today, because we had to make 4 pit stops along the way home for him to go to the bathroom. I couldn't believe it! We had a fun weekend, and unfortunately it was a long ride home.

I can't believe my nephew is 9. NINE! I have known him all his life, and held him in my arms when he was newborn. He's a smart, athletic 9 year old now. My, how time flies.

Hysterical!

This video is hysterical! The last 2 kids at the end sitting on the couch killed me! My fave lines are, "2+2=5!" "You're going to have a tummy ache!" and lastly, "Daddy, you're ugly!". Oh my, this was toooo funny. Debating whether to prank Sean & Mackenzie. Mackenzie would flip if his chocolate disappeared!

Turning Tomatoes

So, it's completely possible to turn green tomatoes red. Just get a brown paper bag and put them in a dark place (like a closet) and wait. I checked on them a couple of times, and then today, found them all completely red. (Yes, the numbers don't match (if you count the green above to the bottom below. I ended up adding a few more tomatoes to the bag after taking the original picture).

I'm impressed. And now I need to find something to do with all these ripe tomatoes!

Homemade Hamburger Helper

For last night's dinner, I wanted to use leftovers + whatever we had in the house/fridge/cupboard. The items I absolutely I wanted to use, was leftover already cooked lasagna noodles, and ground beef.

For our family, I used about 1 pound of ground beef. Then I browned the meat and cooked it until it's no longer pink, then added in onions and continued to cook and stir.

In the meantime, if you don't already have noodles ready (like I did last night), cook 1 box of elbow macaroni (or any macaroni of your choice) until it's the way you like it (my family likes it softer than al dente) and drain it well.

Add 1 (15oz) can of stewed tomatoes to the ground beef and onions, and stir. Add 1 (15 oz) can of mixed vegetables, (if you choose, I decided to not put any in last night) cover and cook for 6-8 minutes.

Mix 2 Tbsp flour in 1 cup water, and get all the lumps out. Add it to the hamburger mixture and stir until mixture is thickened. Add 1 can of cream of mushroom (or cream of celery is what I used last night, as I'm not a fan of mushroom) and stir it in good. Add the pasta to the mixture, and heat it all together. (Since I already had the pasta cooked from a few days ago, I heated the pasta in the microwave in a bowl and the mixed in the meat into the bowl and mixed it all together.

All together, I think it took me half an hour to prepare everything. The longest was waiting for the liquids to evaporate.

The boys had no interest in eating it. Mack doesn't eat sauce to begin with on pasta (he's an oil & Parmesan kind of boy). Sean had no interest in eating it - but did taste it. He said he wasn't in the mood. I absolutely enjoyed it - and it was WAY better than boxed Hamburger Helper from the store. Jamie really liked it too. He even had seconds! I was very impressed with it. I can't wait to have leftovers for lunch today! Yum!

Dress-Up Fun

This photo shoot was so much fun. I love fall – it’s my fave time of the year!

Quentin was a huge trooper during this photo shoot. The shoot was actually great timing. Just as I was wrapping up the shoot (in the park, in the circle I live in), the city's workers came on their machines and blew away all the leaves and cut the grass. It was meant to be! Perfect timing. And I'm in love.

I’ve gotten 3” of possibly 5” (as the pattern calls for, but I’m debating going wider) done on my Linen Stich Scarf. It’s been wicked busy around here with parties & Halloween, and normal every day life, that I don’t always get a chance to sit down & knit in the evenings. Maybe one day I’ll start getting that time in the evenings back. That would be nice. Until then, I’ll sneak in a row whenever I get the chance to.

Stairs

Quentin discovered that he could climb up stairs while I was out of town in Boston. I got this video from my dad. Too bad I missed it - but luckily my dad caught it on video. And I'm glad he did, because Quentin won't climb our stairs at home, as much as I've tried to put him in front of the stairs to climb up. No interest. If my father wouldn't have caught it on video... I wouldn't have believed him!

Trick Or Treating

Last night, Sean wore his other Batman Costume (this one was a bit larger than the black one he wore to daycare, so he was able to get layers under the costume). Quentin wore his Frog Costume again (as it had feet as was the warmest) and Mack wore his black batman costume, which again, like Sunday night after a Halloween party, he tried to ask to sleep in it again. He put up a good fight too! The boys were layered in pjs & clothes as well as a sweater too under their costumes. I'm glad I was able to get layers. Also, it was 11°C outside, rare for October 31st. The last couple of Halloweens we froze outside. I didn't even have to wear gloves it was so warm! It was actually a pleasure to be out.

We had no one really come to our house except for the bell ringing about 4 times with maybe 6 kids total. Jamie stayed home and handed out candy to those 6 kids. I went out with the kids & my mom for a bit just to do the 2 circles around my house and part of another street as we had friends living there who wanted to see the kids. No one really was giving out candy! The houses we did go to, gave us extra, as no one was even coming to their houses either. One girl even came to us while we were preparing to leave our house, and asked if the boys wanted candy as her dad fell asleep and she was turning out the lights & not handing out anymore. Never thought we'd get candy coming to us!!

It's pathetic... Halloween is NOT what it used to be! People have no fun anymore and are perhaps lazy! They can't blame it on money... it costs nothing to get a small bag of lolly pops! I got 250 (good) lollypops at Walmart for under 6$. Even the dollar store has decent candy for a buck or two! My neighbors are no fun at all.

Sean, Mack & my mom.

Sean at first didn't even want to go trick or treating. But by the end of it - they were fighting over who got to ring the bell! We had to take turns, and boy were they keeping track.

Quentin had the best night out of all of us - being wheeled around. My mom carried his bucket for most of the time we were out - until the end when Sean wanted to help out with Quentin's bucket. Quentin, doesn't eat chocolates or candy yet... but he was collecting for his brothers! (And some for mommy & daddy of course!) He was a real trooper!

The boys did well with their loot! They had fun tonight sorting through it, and making piles of what they wanted to keep and what they wanted to trade. They're too funny.

And poor Mr. Quentin who cannot eat this junk yet.... was memorized by the loot! Next year he'll be able to have some too.

We had fun this Halloween. Did your kids do well too? Did they have fun? I hope so!

First Cut

I made my first cut today! I was a little nervous, but did a great job measuring, slicing to make it even, and then cutting! First cut with a quilting mat, a rotary cutter and a rotary cutting ruler. It was very exciting & a lot of fun. Project info to come!

Halloween 2011

My boys, Halloween morning 2011.

While the boys were in daycare, I took my little froggy to run some errands, including picking up some last minute candy for trick-or-treaters. Quentin of course flirted with all the ladies in the stores. He's such a little flirt.

And while my little froggy napped, I prepared good “boo” bags for anyone who rings our bell (in costume, of course!)

What are your kids dressing up as this year? I’ve got 2 batmans and maybe a Frog (or maybe a dragon? Or maybe a giraffe)… you’ll have to wait until tomorrow to find out what Quentin ended up going as… he has options!

Though, all 3 boys have gotten use of the awesome frog costume. Here is Mackenzie for Purim (Jewish “Halloween” in spring) 2009 and Sean for his first Halloween on October 31, 2007.

Quentin's 2 bottom teeth, have multiplied. He now has 4 teeth!
(Oct 4th, 2011, the first top tooth cracked through on (your) top left).

By October 6th, 2011, just 2 days later, both top teeth had cracked through the gums.

And now, (picture taken October 25, 2011), Quentin has 4 chompers almost fully grown in, ready to use, to eat. We've been slowly introducing him foods that are more solid than purée. He's certainly enjoying that more, and actually chews his food quite well now. He'll be eating the same meals as us in no time.

Apple Picking

Last week I went apple picking with Sean & Mackenzie & their classes.

My mom came with to help.

Did you know that you have to pull an apple upwards to remove it from the tree?

Thank goodness the apples were delicious, this field trip was expensive!

Sean had a good time picking the apples.

Mackenzie had fun putting the apples in the bag (that he made other people pick off the tree). This is Mack's first time apple picking - last year he wasn't old enough to go with daycare.

And he enjoying eating a few apples off the tree!

And myself too - I think I had 3 right off the tree. We picked Ida Red this year, and they were beyond delicious. I have now 3 bags of apples, and I'll give one to my step-mother-in-law to bake with and the other 2... please give me some ideas, only so many apple cakes I can make (to freeze). I think I might try my hand at apple sauce too! But I need some other apple recipe ideas please! What are your faves?

It was a great morning, and we were so lucky. We made it back on the bus and just as we did, the rain came down and it started to pour! Talk about good timing... The fresh air was nice, and it was nice to be able to attend this field trip with the boys.

Spaghetti Squash

Last week I made spaghetti squash for the first time. It was a spaghetti squash from our garden this summer. We only got 2 squash this year, once Sean took to school for his class vegetable soup and this one was all mine! (Jamie & the kids won't eat spaghetti squash - well maybe Quentin would... I will let him try it next time I make some). First I halved it. (That was quite the job too - until I found the right knife).

Then I brushed olive oil around the sides and sprinkled on pepper & salt for taste. I then flipped them over (cut side down) and baked it at 350°F for 45 minutes.

Once it came out of the oven, I scooped out the seeds (you can do this before you bake it as well - it's up to you).

And I then scooped out all the spaghetti squash. I was unsure at first, but it was pretty fun actually.

And voila - a huge bowl of spaghetti squash!

Topped it off with some spaghetti sauce, some Parmesan, had a friend over for lunch, and the entire thing was gobbled up! It's super light on the calories, and extremely tasty. I will definitely be making this again!

Fabric

So, as promised, this is the fabric roll (8 fat quarters) that I got for 2$ in Boston. The price tag read 10$, on sale from 10.97$ (Not that big of a sale to begin with) But when I looked at my bill when I got to the car (I bought other stuff, so I didn't notice the price until after) I was only charged 2$. I wish I would have realized, I might have bought more fabric! Not sure what I'll make yet with these fat quarters, but it will get used.

This is the 2nd roll I bought, another 8 fat quarters.

From this roll, the stripes and the squares ones (2 middle fabrics) are my fave. I'm not entirely a fan of the "animal print" one on the right, but I am sure I can use it to make someone else something.

Right now, these are the 6 fat quarters I chose (the green on the right is not actually a fat quarter, it was from my stash of fabric (yes, I have a stash of fabric as well as yarn!) and I am not sure about the floral green one next to the tonal green one (far right), so I will be going fabric shopping this week, as I have to get background material as well. I started a class recently, (will tell you more about that soon), and this is for the mystery project we're doing. I'm super excited.

Different Options

So the boys have requested new hats (knit by mommy, of course). So I've settled on a pattern (the same one for both boys) - details to come shortly, but the pattern calls for 2 colors, and I can't decide on which colors to use for each boy.

Sean's options:

Blue & apple green?

Blue & Lime Sherbet? (These 2 were used for Sean's original Roar Hat, which Mack still sometimes wears). Does Lime Sherbet go better with the jacket?

Can't decide which green goes better? Green apple (right) or lime sherbet (right)?

What do you think? The last option is I can do the apple green (top right) with black. I realized after this would be a great option too - but Sean's jacket is with him at daycare, so I can't photograph that option too... but I think if the green apple does go, then it would look great with black too - and I have more black cascade 220 superwash (which is the yarn I'll be using) for this hat.

Mack's options:

Black & red? (Though, Mack's original Roar Hat was done in black & red. Do I make him another hat in these colors?)

Or blue & red? (Spiderman's actual colors!)

Or blue & yellow?

Or yellow & black?

Decisions... decisions... decisions...

Pumpkin Carving

We carved pumpkins a few weeks ago when my SIL & nephew were in town. All the kids got to pick out a pumpkin at the market. When we got home, they got started right away.

Sean really got into it! (Mack didn't want to get dirty).

And we waited until that night to light them up with tea lights. The boys was super excited! They thought it was pretty cool. They are super excited for Halloween! And now I just pray that they'll wear their costumes when the time comes. (I hope they do too - I'm very excited!) We still have the last few Halloween decorations to put up. I better get started on that!

Now, I better go roast those seeds before they are no good anymore. Mmm! Pumpkin seeds!

A Rushed Weekend

This past weekend Jamie and I were supposed to have a relaxing weekend away in Boston, without the kids (!!!) in honor of my friends wedding. However our weekend, didn't go as planned (though we did manage to get away). We were supposed to leave at noon on Friday, drive down, have dinner, and then meet up with the soon-to-be Bride for drinks at the hotel bar. Friday morning, Jamie got a call that one of our two stores that we own got robbed the night before and he had to take care of that (with police & insurance) and getting our store back up & running before we even thought about taking off for the weekend. The burglars took all our merchandise - though were nice and didn't kick over counters or ruin anything else (except for the safe). They had cut the alarm wire, and entered into the lot next to ours, (which was empty being renovated for the soon-to-be new tenants) and got into our store through the wall! It must have been professionals, because they knew what they were doing. It's absolutely sad that we live in a world with people like this.

Jamie finally got home from work, it was well after 9pm. We decided what the heck, let's go to Boston now instead of going to bed, waking up early, sitting in a car for 6+ hours to not feel relaxed at the wedding that night. We finally got on the road it was LATE! My parents already had the kids. My mom had Quentin since 11 am Friday morning. We were supposed to leave around noon, had our day gone as planned. My mom was to put Quentin down for an early nap after feeding him lunch, and then pick up the older 2 boys and take all 3 to their mid-afternoon swimming lesson (I have all 3 at the same time - miraculously!) My mom still went on her day as planned, and as the afternoon unfolded, we just didn't know what was going on, so I told my mom to keep the kids just in case we decided to leave tonight. (And my hair was already done for the wedding (blow dried straight)... no way I was going to go swimming in the afternoon!)

At one point on Friday, I seriously walked around my house and said "Now what?" The dishes were done, the laundry was done, folded & put away... there was nothing to do. I didn't know what to do with myself! I did some photo editing from pictures from the last few weeks (I had fallen behind), and watched some TV and even did a bit of knitting.

We had a very smooth ride. We had my dad's Lexus (not sure the model) - which is a really nice car. It parks itself! You can even set the cruise control to slow down 1, 2 or 3 car lengths when there is a car in front, it's sick. When border control asked who the car belonged to and Jamie said it was his father-in-laws car, he asked "he just let you take his car?" Jamie then said "we traded 3 kids and a mini van for this car" and the guy laughed and said "what a good trade, welcome to America." He was in a good mood for pretty much midnight on a Friday night/Saturday morning.

We got into Boston after 4 am. Jamie drove the entire way. I kept passing out in the passengers seat (which was mighty comfortable if you ask me). I kept asking him if he wanted me to take over and drive, though I'm not sure I would have been able to keep awake. We got into the hotel, and both of us caught a second wind. We finally fell asleep and woke up about 4 hours later to have breakfast. Then we came back to the room and took a nap. In the afternoon we ended up at Walmart (I needed pantyhose for the wedding) and I picked up some fat quarters as well. To my surprise, one packet of fat quarters was on serious liquidation. (I only noticed after we left Walmart, and I was looking at my receipt). If I had realized, I might have bought more from that company in different colors. (8 fat quarters for 2$!!!) (The room we stayed in was GORGEOUS). We had a nice King size bed and it was clean & stylish. I definitely would stay at the Quincy Marriott again.

I did not make it to Faneuil Hall. I wanted to go there for lunch on Saturday, but it just didn't work out. I wanted to go see this artist whom we have artwork from in our house - to update a picture that we have of our family, with Quentin in it. Oh well - next time. We have 2 pieces from this artist - one of Jamie & I with our wedding date on it (dressed up in wedding gear) and another one of our family of 4, before Quentin was in the picture. Both are pieces my parents have gotten for us. It's really cute, they're cartoon pictures. I also wanted to go to JoAnn Fabric, Target, Michaels, and Snow Goose Yarns. (All carefully planned out last week). None of that happened either.

Beautiful New England drive home. (We drove across, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and Quebec). The drive home was beautiful - it's my favorite time of the year with the leaves falling. I started the drive home & Jamie took over and I got to knit - the first time all weekend. I'm now about 2.5" of 5" into my Linen Stitch Scarf.

We made it back to Montreal (and sat in traffic on the bridge, hence why I was able to get such a great shot of our skyline) just after the boys were fed dinner. Quentin was super excited to see me, Sean was practically waiting by the door with his jacket on to go home (though he had a great time at my parents house this weekend, my brother even took him to hockey practice both days) and Mackenzie.... he didn't want to leave my parents house & threw a fit! He seriously didnt want to go home. He just loves his Bubbie & Papa (my parents).

While we got to get away... the entire weekend felt rushed and not very relaxing. I told Jamie I need to go away with him on a one week all inclusive (if my parents will take all 3 boys for a week??) and actually relax, with no plans, no where to be, nothing to do but relax and read a book, swim, tan, etc... One day... For now, I'll keep dreaming. (We figure maybe next year, once Quentin is walking/easier to manage and 100% sleeping through the night - because he's still not).

Our Visitors

The other day Jamie called me downstairs to see something. There was a cat at our backyard door. Just sitting there. Checking out what was inside our house.

Later that day, the cat (I’m assuming now it’s the mommy cat) was hanging out on our patio chair, taking a nap. After that, we didn’t see her again until a few days later.

That weekend, we decided to do a huge clean-up in our backyard to prepare for winter. In one area, when we ripped up some plants (not my vegetable garden area) we discovered a kitten – maybe a month old (?). It was soooooo unbelievably cute. I had to knock sense into me and tell myself we were not taking this kitten in, and we do not need any pets in our life at this point in time.

Isn’t he or she adorable?? I had to pick him up to move him from where he was. The kids thought that kitten was adorable. We gave it a bowl of water (I had nothing in the house to feed him though – since we no longer have a cat, we no longer have cat food in the house) but he or she wasn’t interestd in water.

And later that afternoon, we discovered two baby kittens in our backyard. They found somewhere else to hide. They eventually ran off together. Sean & Mack were ~~terrorizing~~ trying to get their attention. A bit after they ran off, their mom came back to see them, to discover that we ripped up our garden. (As we’re going to extend our patio next spring anyhow). I heard her meowing for a bit in our backyard. I feel bad. I hope they’ve found each other since.

6th Blogaversary

So, I have to admit. I forgot about my blogaversary until just now. 6 years! That's a long time to commit to something. I do admit, the reason why I forgot about my blogaversary is because life is crazy busy with 3 kids. Same reason why I don't blog daily anymore, like I did, when I started this blog. Anyhow, I can't believe it's been 6 years. Unfortunately, this year, I won't be having a blog bash for my blogaversary, like I've done a few years in a row in the past. I just simply don't have the time to plan anything right now. Though... maybe in the future, I'll have a surprise contest or something - so stay tuned. I'll see what I can put together - when life calms down a bit - if it ever does!

Here's to many more years! It's you, my readers, that keeps me blogging. So please, feel free to de-lurk yourself, leave a comment (And a method for me to answer you back (email address, ravelry ID, etc)) so I know you're out there! Progress

I've been making progress on my Koigu Linen Stitch Scarf.

It takes me about an entire 1 hour show (minus commercials, so about 40 minutes) to get through a row as there are 450 stitches per row.

I'm loving the way it's coming out.

I've done a few more rows since I took this picture, I'd say I am closer to the 2" mark now. The pattern calls for 5" in total. Another 3" to go. This is a long knit, but I'm loving the results. It's totally worth it.

Just a While Longer?

Can I keep them in there just a while longer? Maybe there will be 5 minutes of less mess in the house? Maybe I can go to the bathroom without a kid hanging off my leg? They were so cute playing together, I just love that they’re close in age. Too bad the older 2 can climb over and jump out.

Sean comes to me this morning and says "Mommy, look at this hat". (He points to the black dollar store hat with skulls on it that is on his head - the one he got me to buy last year after throwing a fit in the store. Some battles I just don't want to have - especially not over 1$) "It's not covering my head anymore. My head is getting too big for it. I need a new hat - what you making me?"

Uhm, I better get on that.

A New View of the World

On September 29th, 2011, Quentin figured out how to pull himself up. I caught (on my iPhone) the 3rd time he did it on video. Since then (2 weeks ago), he's been pulling himself up on everything - and has discovered that he can reach a whole new world of items. He's getting into EVERYTHING! It's just a matter of time now, he'll be walking. He's dying to chase after his older brothers. If I would have continued recording this video about 15 more seconds, he did indeed cruise from the mirrored stage toy to the leap frog piano toy bench.

The Last Harvest

We did a last harvest over the long weekend, and then pulled out the entire garden. Wow, what a job that was! There was still some red on the plants, but a lot of green. Some of the green has already started to turn to red, and I've been reading up online, on ways to turn green to red. I'm trying a few things, I'll keep you updated on how that turns out.

I'm already dreaming up next summer's garden.
(A few changes I'd like to make).

A few weeks ago, Sean had to bring some vegetables into school for his class vegetable soup. I had him go out into the garden and pick some stuff. He took some large tomatoes, some cherry tomatoes as well as a spaghetti squash. I am upset that he didn't get to bring home any soup! I would have loved to have sampled it!

Over the long weekend, I did a lot of baking (as I mentioned in my last post). That's 3 apple cakes, 2 zucchini breads and a chocolate birthday cake for my FIL's 65th. That's a lot of baking! (All in one afternoon too!)

Frozen Goods

Over the weekend, some surprise out of town guests came bearing goods from their garden. I finally pulled out of the fridge some zucchini that we had from our garden from a recent harvest, and along with the yellow zucchini that they brought, I grated it all up (and made 1 green zucchini bread as well as 1 yellow zucchini bread) and now have in my freezer, 8 bags of 2 cups each of green zucchini, 3 bags of 2 cups each of yellow zucchini and 2 bags of mixed of 1 cup yellow zucchini and 1 cup green zucchini for a total of 13 bags with a total of 26 cups of zucchini. I will be able to make 13 zucchini breads with this. Or, I can split it with banana, and possibly make 26 zucchini-banana breads. Yum! I'll be baking all winter long with stuff from the garden.
I've never baked with yellow zucchini before, I actually like the way the zucchini bread tastes with the yellow zucchini. Yum!

What a week so far.. And it's only Wednesday.

Spent Monday over night to Tuesday sick with Gastro. It's not fun. I spent the entire night by the toilet. At first I thought it was my dinner on Monday night. We had leftovers from our holiday meal from Sunday (we had family over to celebrate the Jewish New Year), but clearly it wass't that - because I was the only person to get sick and we all ate the same meal. I spent the day in bed on Tuesday. Thankfully my mother was around, and she picked up Quentin on Tuesday morning shortly after Sean & Mackenzie left to daycare. My mother brought Quentin back home just in time to go down for his afternoon nap, which she took care of and then left to her afternoon class. I took the same 3 hour nap that Quentin did (except I downed some Pepto Bismol first - oh boy did that stuff help). That 3 hour nap did wonders. My mother picked up Sean & Mackenzie from daycare, and took them back to her house for dinner. My mother & father hung out with the boys until it was their bedtime. By that time, I was able to have some chicken broth. Once that stayed down for about an hour and a half, I tried eating some toast. By 10:30 pm last night I was famished from not eating proper food in over 24 hours, that I was able to eat a sandwich. I finally woke up this morning feeling back to myself. I told Jamie that if I wasn't better by this morning, that I would seriously die. I haven't been sick like that in years. Three full term pregnancies, and I was never sick like that. I really hope that no one else in my household catches this. Turns out, that one of my two best friends was over on Saturday night wit her husband and son, and a few hours after leaving our house, both her and her husband were sick all night long until Sunday. It's possibly they picked up something earlier on, and passed the germ to me, and I picked it up 48 hours later. I was sick a full 48 hours after seeing them. Maybe the bug we had takes 48 hours to attack - and they caught it 48 hours earlier from someone they came in contact with on Thursday? Who knows. In any case, we're all doing better now, and I hope that I don't have to be sick like that for another decade, if not longer. It was brutal. I was so weak at 4:30pm when trying to take Quentin out of his crib after his nap on Tuesday, I don't know how I even managed. I'm glad I was able to spend most of Tuesday in bed. I don't wish gastro on anyone.

And after feeling 100% back to myself today, my day got ruined just before lunch by a flat tire. My tire blew while I was on the highway. There was no where to pull over where I was - as there was absolutely no shoulder on the side of the road, so I was forced to get off at the next exit. At first I didn't even realize that my tire had blown. My "Low Tire Pressure" light came on. I was confused. I did hear a weird sound, but wasn't sure what it was - and thought it was coming from the front of my car. So I pulled off the next exit and pulled into a parking lot with a store and a gas station on the service road. I got out of my car to realize that my back driver's side tire was completely blown. So I called Visa Roadside Assistance, since I have the package, and within 30 minutes there was a tow truck there to help me put on my spare tire. Today I learned that my tire is located under the front of my car, and that I have to loosen something inside the front of my car to release the tire - very interesting that it's located there (due to the stow-n-go feature of my van) and that it's illegal in Quebec to change a tire on the highway. Had I pulled over on the highway, it would have cost me 150$ to tow me off the highway (standard rate to get off a Quebec Highway apparently) so that then they could change my tire off the highway. Luckily there was no shoulder on the side of the highway where I was, and I felt, with the baby in the car, it was much safer to pull off the highway than to pull over on the highway. My new tire has been ordered (because of course the tire blew where it's not fixable) and it'll go in for that and an oil change I've been ~~forgetting~~ putting off for a while now.

They say things come in 3's. Gastro, a blown tire.... what's next? I'm not sure I want to know.

And I like the fact that you’re doing the “tails” at the same time as knitting it. So as soon as I cast off, that’ it, it’ll be done. Nothing to add on later for the fringe. I’m thinking of making it a little bit wider than the 5” the pattern calls for. (Maybe 6”? I don’t like too skinny of a scarf).
