november six

This morning the two of them were terrors. While I was in the kitchen preparing some stuff for Sean for the weekend, they conspired together and dumped out an entire kleenex box in the playroom. There was kleenex and pieces of kleenex everywhere. It was rather funny, but not cool at the same time. They really know how to make a mess together. I think I am in for a long couple of years!

Mackie had the most fun. He was the one ripping them into little bits. Sean didn't care to rip them up, he had more fun just pulling them out of the box and throwing them up in the air.

I used to be one of those people who had birthday gifts wrapped weeks, even months in advance. Lately, I've been a last minute type of gift wrapper, and end up scrambling at the last minute to get things wrapped. I finally got my nephew's gift wrapped this morning before Jamie got home from work. We got him a few articles of clothing, a couple of books and the handknit socks that I made for him. I really hope he likes them.

The tube socks looked really nice rolled up before I wrapped them. They kind of looked a tad funny just by themselves. Kind of like a long snake!

The boys were really rowdy today. I had to put Sean into time out a couple of times this morning. I don't think he really understand the point of time out, because he doesn't sit in his chair, and doesn't listen. I also think that he may find time out funny. This discipline thing for an almost 3 year old is proving to be very challenging.

The cherry on the cake today was when we were walking down to the kitchen to eat lunch and Sean pushed Mack down the stairs. Yep, you read that correctly - pushed him down the stairs, in front of me. Mack is okay, he broke his fall, but bit his lip and so there was a bit of blood involved. He is okay, which is the most important part, but I really don't know what to do about the pushing and the hitting. Almost 3 year old boys are very challenging and I'm learning as we go. I am just going to have to be consistent and keep with the time outs, and hopefully he eventually listens and learns his lesson.

I was kind of relieved when Sean and Jamie left mid-afternoon for the weekend. I don't know how much more of misbehaving I could have taken. I needed the break of the two boys together. They've been cooped up in the house all week - I think that may have been why they both on edge. I would go nuts too if I was stuck at home all week as well. (Actually I was stuck at home all week too - and almost lost my cool a couple of times too). It's really hard. Cabin fever gets to you.

I received in the mail today some solid/semi-solid/tonal leftover yarn bits from Bertha. Thank you so much Bertha. I love every bit! They will be great in Babette. I cannot wait turn them into squares. Such nice colors. If anyone else has leftover bits (I need about 5g per square), I'm only using Solid/Semi-solid/Tonals. Let me know - I would appreciate it!

I stayed up late last night reading. I read over half of Hannah's Gift. I was in tears, sobbing into my pillow. At 3:30 am, I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer, so I went to bed. I finished the book today. I couldn't put it down and it was a very easy read. It was well written. I really recommend it. It's a non-fiction story of a 3 year old girl who has cancer. The book is truly moving. As I turned every page I began to feel like I was there with Hannah and her mother going through every moment with them. This book made me laugh and as well, it made me cry. And I am not talking about normal crying. I'm talking about full-on-sobbing. Hannah's Gift had me hooked from the very beginning and t is truly one of the most inspiring books I have read in a long time (though, it's actually been a long time since I've read a book). It's rare that a book is this heartwarming. It's really gotten me to think about my life and my children, one who happens to be Hannah's age in the book. I do have to say that you shouldn't pick up this book unless you are fully prepared to let your emotions go. I can't believe that Jamie didn't wake up from all the sobbing I was doing next to him in bed at that hours of the night. You really must read it.

This evening I stepped out with Mack to pick up dinner, and I stopped by the used book market. They are still having their buy 3 get one book free special. I picked up a few novels, and I think I'll be set for my winter reading. I want to start reading a lot more. Though, it's really hard to read & knit at the same time. I am not so good with audio books. I got The Friday Night Knitting Club for free with a credit from Audible but every time I try to listen to it - I fall asleep. Maybe it's meant to be read rather than listened to. I also find it very hard to keep track of who is who when it's one person's voice throughout the entire thing.

Now that I'm done Hannah's Gift, I need something else to read. What do you have to recommend. I'm looking for something lighter now, after finishing something heavy. Bring it on... recommend away please!

After Mack went to bed this evening, I took care of some things around the house, and then sat on the couch and watched Ugly Betty which was on tonight, and then some episodes of Oprah. I am soooo behind on Oprah, it's not even funny. I am enjoying the peace & quiet - let me tell you. Mack is such a good baby, and it's rare that I get a weekend to myself. Mack is still napping for a good 3-4 hours in the afternoon, and a full 12 hours at night. I am looking forward to hanging out with him tomorrow, just the two of us. No idea what's in store yet, but I will need to go out to get some groceries.

A demain!

march fourteen

Today I tried to sleep in as much as possible, though, that's not always entirely possible. I did get some extra shut eye, but my body is telling me that I need more sleep. Solution? Go to bed earlier. Possibility of making that happen? Not so likely unfortunately. My time after the boys go to sleep each night is precious to me, and I have so little time to myself (I know, one of the sacrifices I gave up when becoming a mother). I'm a night owl on top of it, I work best at night. I am the most creative late at night. My house is quiet late at night. My house is also clean late at night. (I always clean up after the boys after they've gone to bed). I guess I will have to sacrifice a little bit of sleep in order to have some "me" time.

The hubster left me with both kids late morning as he wanted to go out for a bit. Sean of course ransacked the playroom (though, it's his to ransack) while I was upstairs changing Mack's diaper. In the course of 5 minutes he dumped the puzzle pieces off of about 8 wood puzzles, pulled out toys out from all the bins in the unit in there, dumped all the books off the shelf, and just threw things everywhere. I couldn't believe how much he destroyed in there. Unbelievable. The next thing I'd like to work on with him, is cleaning up! He doesn't put things back where he took them from, and just leaves things on the floor, etc.

This afternoon, after some fight, Sean did take a nice enough nap. Last weekend was a disaster with the napping, today, we're progressing a bit better. Hopefully by tomorrow we can get him back to napping properly. That would be nice.

For dinner tonight, after I picked up my brother we had Quiznos. I ordered a salad with chicken on it. I was not impressed. I don't think I'll be eating that again. The prices was outrageous for their "large" salad, which you got practically nothing. It was no where near filling. Not my cup of tea, that's for sure. But for dinner tonight, it was the only solution.

This evening I went to the Habs game with my brother (yes, he's wearing a Devils Jersey. While he's a fan of the Habs, he's a fan of the Devils when they come in town and he's sporting a Martin Brodeur Jersey). Unfortunately we lost 3-1. I've never seen our crowd cheer at the end of a game for another team that won. The entire Bell Center was cheering on the Devils. Why??

Because tonight, Martin Brodeur tied Patrick Roy's record of most career wins as a goalie. (And obviously it'll be a matter of time before he beats it.. (next game they play?)). Anyhow, Patrick Roy was actually at the game tonight, as well as a lot of Brodeur fans. Brodeur himself is from Montreal. What's really neat is that Martin Brodeur's father was a goaltender in the NHL and after his career was over, he was a photographer for the Habs. Martin grew up idolizing Patrick Roy (who used to play for the Habs as well).

Tonight I worked on my Go Habs Go Sock. Honestly, all I have left to do on sock number 1 is to close the toe and the graft 'em shut. I should be going to at least 2 more games this season (we may have tickets next Saturday night, and as well I have tickets just after that for sure). So I definitely have time to finish sock number 1 and start sock number 2, but I don't know if I will have enough time to finish both socks this season, and I don't want to have to bend the rules (working only on them at games!)

I love them. I can't wait to finish them both to have them to wear to games (or on game night!) They'll be my lucky Habs socks! GO HABS GO!
