1.6.11 :: 133 weeks old

Mack is 133 weeks old today.

Sean had a really rough night last night. He was delirious and not himself the entire night. He went from 101.4°F (38.5°C) fever at 3pm after nap time at daycare, to staying the same (101.3°F or 38.5°C) at bedtime to 102°F (38.8°C) at midnight, to 102.4°F (39.1°C) at 5 am, and then it slowly went down. By 10 am this morning he was down to 101.6°F (38.6°F) and by 2:30pm his fever had broken and he was at 98.1°F (36.7°C). It stayed around this temperature for the rest of the afternoon and evening. I gave him some tempra just before bed since he seemed a bit warm but I triple checked his temperature, he had none. Hoping tonight he sleeps the night. Last night, if it wasn't Sean telling me his tummy was on fire, I was giving him a cold wash cloth to put on his forehead as he was really warm. Half the night he slept in my bed with Jamie & I. And Quentin, was up a lot last night too. I think he's going through a growth spurt and just wants to eat. It was a really rough night. (Above) Sean spent all day today in my bed and watched TV. I couldn't tell you if he actually napped or not, as I actually crashed most of the day when not feeding Quentin or taking care of something Sean needed. I'm hoping I'm not wired tonight from sleeping most of the day. Sean has to stay home tomorrow again, as he has to be fever free for at least 24 hours before he can return to daycare.

I am still in shock that Quentin actually likes bath time.

Each time I bathe Quentin, I am just amazed how different Quentin is.
(Which is obvious, because all 3 boys are different, I know).

Tonight after 2 of the 3 kids were in bed, Jamie & I watched the Habs game, which we won 2-1 in a shoot-out. After Quentin was fed, I actually got to knit for a bit on Jamie's socks. Been trying to sneak in knitting time as much as I possibly can.

This morning on CJAD (800 AM), Quentin won the Special Delivery of the Day prize. I am not sure what exactly we'll win this time, but I am curious to see what is in the prize pack. I won this same contest back in January 2007 just a few days after Sean was born, and we got a bunch of Safety First products. I am not sure why, but Mack was never entered into the contest. We all probably forgot about entering his name. (It was my in-laws who entered us both times). I made sure to set the alarm and turn on the radio this morning. It was cool hearing our names on the radio and they were really impressed with Quentin's name. I love that people love his name. We were trying to find something unique, not top 100 and not something that has been used lately. (When we were in the hospital and we told nurses/doctors the name, they all were like "Wow, great name we haven't heard that name in years." Or we heard "Oh great name, I have a friend with that name but he's 33 years old, and I haven't heard that name used since. And my friend Quentin is a great guy, so great choice!"... We had so many other names we wanted to use, but unfortunately they were already used by family, a lot of them under the age of 8, so I didn't wait two kids with the same name running around family functions.

Today I had some customer service stuff taken care of. My email from Bauer got answered, and Sean's helmet has a 1 year manufacturer's warranty, I just need to take back the helmet to the retailer we got it from. We're locating it's receipt, and will go back (with the email from Bauer, in case I have any issues) to the store where we bought it. Thank goodness I don't have to replace the helmet that is not even 3 months old, out of my own pocket. Hockey equipment ain't cheap!

I also spoke to First Years about my defective All Purpose Sterilizer. The lady on the phone told me that it's not actually burned. That some areas have certain minerals in the tap water (and we use tap water in the sterilizer (and to do our dishes, etc)) and that it's some sort of build up (she said the name of the type of build up, but I'm not remembering what she said. She told me to take 2 ounces of vinegar and 1 ounce of water, and soak the hot plate over night. I did that as soon as I got off the phone with her at lunch today, and we'll see by tomorrow morning if that worked. If not, I told her I would be calling her back.

I'm starting to think that Quentin might have his nights & days mixed up... so we'll see what tonight brings. I am wired though... from napping almost all day. Boo.

11.18.10 :: 126 weeks old

Mack is 126 weeks old today.

This morning a friend that I've recently reacquainted with after many years, came over. I discovered she crochets. Her late grandparents were friends with my grandparents and she remembers playing with me when we were both young. We hadn't seen each other in years, and then last year while I was at Rhinebeck, my kids attended a birthday party for one of Mack's friends, for his 1st birthday in 2009 and we started talking on facebook after she realized those were my kids. (We have a mutual friend). So we chatted for the longest time and then finally meet up at our mutuals friend's son's 2nd birthday this year. We started catching up at the party and realized we both "stitch". We set a date for a few weeks back to get together, but she got sick and with my anemia (weak immune) she didn't want to get me sick. So we rescheduled for this morning. We chatted & stitched for a good 3 hours. It was nice catching up. She's my age just under 3 months older than me. Her & her husband are both paramedics, and actually, her husband was the first responder on the scene of my grandfather's accident in October 2009. We actually talked a bit about that today - and I can't believe what great progress my grandfather has made from a year & a month ago. Truly a miracle he's still alive with us today. Since my friend was also a little worried about my swelling, she brought along her blood pressure kit and took it for me. Everything looked great (PHEW!) She told me not to worry, to put my feet up, crochet/knit & relax. I felt better after she reassured me. If my blood pressure had been high, I would have called my doctor immediately.

I feel like a zombie today. So drained. I tried starting the crochet portion of the teachers gifts for the boys daycare, and I just can't keep focused on it (plus I have to go up a little bit on the hook size). Tomorrow. Tomorrow.

I waited home all day (ok, whom am I kidding, I wasn't going anywhere anyhow, not with this swelling to my very pregnant body) for Staples to deliver my order, as I ordered some more Tyvek envelopes that they do not carry in store, only online - they are my fave to ship stuff in. I also ordered 100 blank thank you cards, so that I can print my updated thank you design that includes baby #3. My lovely & talented friend Cynthia designed this after Mack was born, and I used them for all gifts Mackenzie received after he was born & at his Brit Milah (Bris), etc. Then after, I used them for any Thank you card that I wanted to send from us as a family. I knew I just had to update it for this time, and wanted to be prepared in advance this time. After Mack was born, I think it took me over 2 months to get my thank you cards out - the first time ever in my life that I was that behind on writing them & sending them out. (I think my track record is still my wedding thank you cards - they were in the mail I think 2 days later - ALL of them!) So, I went outside at around 4:30pm toady, because Staples emailed me to be home between 9 am and 5pm. I thought maybe they dropped it and left my parcel at the door. I've been home ALL day, haven't left. At one point there was even 3 of us here (cleaning lady, my crochet buddy & myself). Never heard the doorbell ring either. So I went to see outside. Nothing. I saw that my Suburban was at the bottom of my stairs with a white card size piece of paper. I went to the bottom of my stairs, got the Suburban and the white card to go put into the recycling bin (I don't read it the Suburban). I notice something about the white card and flipped it over. It was a "missed" slip from Staples. Uhm, what?! I missed slip? I don't get it. I've been home all day. Didn't leave once. So I came inside and called the 1-800 number on the card. Spoke to a nice lady, who told me they'll re-deliver tomorrow, but she has no idea what happened. Well, I am going to ask the guy tomorrow what happened, because I don't get it. I was home. Didn't leave. So frustrated. I wanted to test out the brand of note cards I bought to make sure that my new updated thank you cards print nicely on my new printer, just in case I need to send it out to get printed. Luckily I still have time before baby boy's arrival. This behavior, I would totally expect of Canada Post (because they've certainly done this to me before). But NOT of Staples. Hmph! I feel as though people have become so lazy these days. I don't even have many front stairs for him or her to go up, and the items I ordered aren't heavy at all.

Now that the yarn diet of 2010 has ended, there has been some stash enhancement. I went to visit Louise at Biscotte & Cie, as she mentioned when I asked about Yarn Forward Issue 27, that she had it. However, her August 2010, is issue 29, where as Ravelry claims Issue 27 is August 2010. A little confusion, and the issue she had did not contain the 5 patterns I was looking for. The magazine itself is a little pricey on stands at $13.75 an issue, but for 5 patterns, that to me is worth spending that. That's okay, I've been meaning to go visit & see what she's got. A little stash enhancement was indeed in order.

In the end I figured out that I could purchase the Yarn Forward Magazine online, digitally, for half the price of the Canadian magazine stand price. For 7$ I ordered the issue here. Buying it digitally allowed me to print the pages that I wanted. I have my eye on Willow, Aster Hat, Dalenni, Discovery Socks, and the Peony Tank.

Today I spent most of the day on the phone with customer service and technical department employees. First I dealt with calling back my rep at Samsung in regards to my brand new printer that the just exchanged for me. I was having an issue printing documents and we figure out what the issue was (I was printing and getting about 1.25" on the right side of the page with faded ink). There was a slight fraction of the back door that wasn't 100% closed. After doing a bunch of other tests, and me scanning the pages of what was printing, to email the tech guy, so he could visually see what my printer was producing, he took one look at what it was printing and knew what to do. My printer was fixed and I was happy within minutes. (And then I printed out some knitting patterns to my heart's content).

The next call I had to take care of was for my brand new lens that Jamie got me for my birthday this year. I was still hearing a weird noise upon going back from 200mm zoom back to 18mm zoom. I never heard this noise before having sent my lens to them in the first place when there was an optical stabilizer issue. Hopefully they can fix it (all on their dime this time) and get my lens back to me as soon as possible. In the meantime, I don't think I need it this week. Hoping to get it back in my hands by Halloween.

I like seeing things get resolved. More things to check off the long to-do list.

I was supposed to go see 2 movies this week - but my plans got altered. One was yesterday, but I ended up taking Mack to the doctor instead. The other plans today, got altered due to my friend's baby teething really badly, and her son was just inconsolable. Oh, I remember those days. And I can't wait to go through them again with baby 3. Hopefully my movie plans will resume next week. Trying to do as much stuff for myself right now before baby boy is born and I have absolutely no me time at all.

My sewing lesson last night got canceled as my sewing instructor's son came down with pink eye - and that is highly contagious. Ick! Ick! Ick! No way I wanted to catch that. Though, I'm still not 100% sure what I wanted to make this week in class, so maybe it's a good thing that class got changed for another day (need to figure out when that will be).

april twenty-five :: frolic

This morning we got up bright & early and headed out the door to the Knitter's Frolic in mid-town Toronto. Mack actually woke up like clockwork 5 minutes before our alarm was set - which was for 7 am. Though, setting an alarm is useless when sleeping in the same room (or house) as a child who gets up at (around) the same time every day.

Mack was in a super good mood and all smiles.

We finally got to Frolic, and the main parking lot was full. This was not even 30 minutes after the event started. We had to park in "over flow" parking. I couldn't believe how many people (and cars!) there were. And no, we didn't plan to wear similar colored shirts today. It just happened.

There was lots of things to look at! Lots of people to watch too. (I've always been a huge people watcher). What can I say, I love to look/admire other people.

Even caught a picture of the lovely Laura Chau, who was working at the Lettuce Knits booth. I saw her around at Rhinebeck, but never got the chance to introduce myself. I finally did introduce myself to her today. She's super sweet.

I also got to meet my swap pal Lillian. We were pals (I sent to her) in a swap last year, I believe it was the Falling For Ewe Swap and have kept in touch since. She's leaving to Shanghai (did I get that right Lillian?) for good soon, and I finally got the chance to meet her before she leaves Canada. It was awesome to get the opportunity to meet a swap pal in the flesh! It was great to meet you Lillian!

The fabulous Tanis ( of Tanis Fiber Arts) was in Toronto too with a booth and Frolic. She brought some new stuff, and indulged in her laceweights. (Pictures later on in this picture heavy post). Go on, go shop in her store. Tell her I sent you. You won't regret your purchase. I can vouch for that.

Tanis is super tiny and super cute. I am glad that I've gotten to work with her through my shop, and recommend her yarns 150%. Her stuff is just awesome. Really. I'd love to own every weight in every color. And then roll around in it.

I also got to meet knitter Leigh.

And got to see Michelle again! Who is looking great!

I got to see Glenna again, met her for the first time at Rhinebeck. It was nice to see her again.

Mack was in a good mood all day - which was fabulous. He's such a good baby.

I also got to see and speak to Amy Singer, Trish Moon, Lori Law, and a few knitty bloggers that I've met before. I even got to see Ginette, who is in the Montreal Knitting Guild. She was in Toronto with some friends, and it was funny running into her there! Apparently the Yarn Harlot was supposed to be there (according to Twitter - though I'm NOT on twitter - I'm not caving), but we didn't see her at all. (And the place wasn't that big).

After Frolic we decided to grab some lunch. We settled on Centerpoint mall (Steeles & Yonge) and decided to get some Subways. We got really bad customer service there. I really think that Amy & I just have bad luck with customer service in restaurants. That and people working in the service industry in Toronto are just rude! I asked for whole wheat bread, she gave me whole wheat with honey or something. Amy asked for whole wheat as well, and got the whole wheat. When I asked the chick for regular whole wheat, she gave me a dirty look, but did switch my bread. I asked TWICE for Swiss, she kept putting in regular cheese (not sure what it is, but it's the other cheese option they have at Subways). Then I asked for what I wanted on my sandwich and she tossed in a few of each. Nothing like at home. I asked for extras pickles, she put in 3. I asked for more pickles she put in 3 more slices of pickles. I told her no really, put on more. She gave me a dirty look. I also asked for the combo with soup, which in Quebec they have. (You can pay a few cents more and have a soup instead of chips). She looked at me like I was crazy and told me it doesn't exist. Okay, fine, whatever. I'll pay for each individually. I was so hungry I didn't care. Amy then got uttered at under the girls' breath, and when we both asked her to repeat what she said she bit her tongue and said "nothing, nevermind". She even asked Amy if she wanted to pay for the girl's sandwich who was standing behind us in line. Uhm, no thanks. We've never met her, why would we pay for her lunch. Weirdos. I do not recommend eating at the Subways at Centerpoint mall. Really rude employees.

We then headed back to Miriam's house and as we got there she was leaving for a few hours. Amy & I organized our stuff while Mack made faces at us from the inside of his playpen. How funny is he!?? Got me to laugh so hard!

The Purple Purl gave out pretty recyclable bags with purchase, which was awesome for the environment. I love reusable bags. I am glad that grocery stores are starting to charge to get plastic bags. Some in Montreal started charging as of Earth Day this past week. Great idea. It'll get people to stop using plastic bags.

Her is my progress on my squares for the Log Cabin Blanket that I'm knitting with Amy & Jenn for our cousin Caryn. Her bridal shower is next Saturday. I've got 3 squares completely done of 6. The started square is number 4. I need to have them all done by Tuesday, to get to Jenn whom will be doing the seaming and a crochet border. (She's the crocheter in the family).

Around 5 pm a NASTY storm hit up our area. It was very windy, pouring rain, and we even lost power for a few minutes. It wasn't looking too good outside. I captured this from one of the bedrooms in Miriam's house.

And unfortunately, one of the houses on her street didn't make the storm.

I hope the people had no intentions of moving in soon! This is going to set them back a while!

Amy and decided to leave the house as we were starting to get hungry. I didn't want to start making food at Miriam's house, since she keeps a kosher home, and with my diet, it's kind of tricky to bring food into someone's home. In any case, we wanted to get out for a bit and go to Michaels in Miriam's area. I still had something on my to-get list, that I wanted to see if her Michaels had it.

So on our way to Michaels, we started looking out for a restaurant that both of us could eat at. Amy is lactose, fruitose and sorbitol intolerant, and only likes certain restaurants that can cater to what she can eat. We settled on Kelsey's, since we've both eaten at the one in Montreal before, and knew that we could each find something on the menu that we could eat. There was a bit of wait, as we$ were told it would be about 15 minutes for a table of 2. No problem, we said we would wait. Then, about 10 minutes later a couple walked in, said they were seated right away. Why?? We were next in line for a table for 2. WTF! So I asked Amy to go speak to the guy standing by the "hostess booth" and he said he honestly doesn't know who was next as he is not the hostess! Ha ha, last night the chick was "just the hostess".... Not too much after that, we finally we were seated, at a table that had been empty the entire time, and the hostess did not have an answer as to why they were seating before us. And the waiter was just not all there either. I ordered a starter salad, and it came with her meal. Starter salad. Meaning it's supposed to come before my meal. That's when I wanted it. Not with my meal. I also had to ask twice for guacamole, which was supposed to come with my meal. And we had to ask twice to get our bill, and then again for separate bills. Ugh. We just wanted a simple meal.

After dinner we hit up the local Michaels, and stocked up with some of our fave craft supplies. It was WAY past Mack's bedtime, but he was in good spirits.

Afterwards we went back to Miriam's house and watched a bit of TV with her and her husband, while knitting on the Log Cabin Blanket. I can now no longer keep my eyes open so I'll be going to bed. Sleeping next to my little cutie Mack who is sound asleep (snoring!) in his playpen!

february twelve

So I've been waiting for a shipment of yarn to come in the mail before giving a review of poor customer service, but since it's actually never going to arrive, I'm going to go ahead and share my experiences with you, with the company Avery Allison Yarns. I do NOT have a single nice thing to say about them. (Neither does my sister).

I signed up for their sock club back in December of 2008 for the January 2009 Sock Club, and when buying that, you get February's Sock Club free, as advertised on Ravelry. Ravelry also gave a 15% off coupon code, so I thought I was getting a really good deal for 2 Sock Club Kits for 25$ USD.

Then January came around, and when I got back from Florida (which was on January 20th), I emailed them to find out when my sock club kit was coming. I emailed them again. No reponse. Finally on my third attempt to email them on in late January, they responded saying:

"Our Sock Club was originally scheduled to ship out mid January, but our designer is running a bit behind schedule. I was planning on sending out a message to everyone tomorrow letting them know that we will probably be mailing both January and February in the same package late January."

You were planning? When? When they got around to it? What kind of service is this? You don't organize a sock club and then have the designer run late on you. That's just poor organization.

So, then on Wednesday, February 4th, I get this email:

"We've decided to ship our January/February Sock Club Kits together, and they're going out at the end of this week! We'll ship you your tracking info as soon as they're in the hands of Canada Post! Happy Knitting. Avery Allison Yarns"

Ok, great. Fine, finally some communication!

The weekend came and went, and by Sunday, I still had no tracking number. So from Sunday on, both Amy & I emailed Avery Allison Yarns, and asked for our tracking number. No response. I believe I emailed about two or 3 times between Sunday, February 8th, until yesterday, February 11th.

This morning with NO response or explain as to why, there is a payment in my paypal account from Avery Allison Yarns. A payment? I'm confused. It's for 25$ USD. Which, paypal took a cut from. AND it's not at the same exchange rate from when I paid for it. So not only did I lose paypal fees, but I also am not getting back my full refund.

All I wanted was to check out their yarn. I've seen their ads on Ravelry. Amy has a skein or two from them that she ordered a few months ago, but even that I've never seen. I've never owned their yarn,and I was possibly interested in opening a wholesale account with them, to either a) carry their stuff in my shop, or b) have them dye a sock club for me. Well, that will be no more, I refuse to carry their yarns now, and do not want them dying for my sock club.

I now have a foul taste in my mouth from their company. Not only do they have very poor customer servive, or rather no customer service at all at this point, but they need to learn how to run a business. They also either a) should find a web hosting company that doesn't lose their emails, or b) actually answer their emails and not blame it on their server.

Now I'm wondering if the sock club fell through, but it's still for sale on their website. Maybe the designer fell through and they never got the pattern. I am assuming it's not a yarn issue, since they dye the yarns themselves. They shouldn't offer a sock club if they can't follow through. In my sock club, I don't even dye the yarn, and I come through for my customers.

I do not recommend to anyone purchasing from Avery Allison Yarns. Even though they did refund my money, which I'm happy about, I never asked them to refund it. I just wanted my sock club packages. At this point, if they were to send me their yarn, I wouldn't be interested in knitting it, or owning it, or putting it in my Ravelry stash that I own it, or even wearing a knitted garment with their yarn.

I can't even begin to tell you the disgust I have for this company. I don't even think she has anyone working for her, as she's a stay-at-home mom of 2 kids (according to her Ravelry profile) who dyes the yarns herself.

All I have to say is... "CUSTOMER SERVICE, CUSTOMER SERVICE, CUSTOMER SERVICE!" Someone who knows her personally should tell her that. Or I hope she googles her company name and reads my blog post. I put a lot of thought into what I was going to write before typing up this post. I would never bash another company, especially one who could even be competition to me (in a sense), though she's not a yarn shop, she's just a dyer, but if I personally get service like I have, I thought it would be good to share it with my readers, so that you don't get screwed over by her as well.

Alright, Rant Over.

Here is an update on my blankie project. I haven't knitted on it in a bit, but I needed to photograph it for something, so I decided to update my ravelry project page. I do plan on continuing to work on it, but after I finish my step-mother-in-law's vest which was for her December 23rd, 2008 birthday, and another deadline that I have to finish shortly.

Today I picked up a gorgeous purse make-up mirror at the pharmacy when I went to go buy Robitussin for Jamie (he's been coughing still) and also some more stage 2 nipples for Mack. We just recently switched him from stage 1 to stage 2. Stage 2 (by Avent) is marked 1 month +. We had switched Sean on them at 2 months old, or just before he turned 2 months old in March of 2007. Mack was never complaining on the stage 1 nipples, so I was in no rush to change them over. When I finally did change him over, and we ran out of clean stage 2 nipples, I used a stage 1 nipple and he FREAKED. Alright, so I knew it was time to get some more stage 2 nipples. I can't figure out why we have so little amount of them left, from when Sean used them. Either I didn't buy so many, or some went missing, or some got holes in them from Sean chewing on them, I'm not sure. So I picked up some more nipples for Mack's bottles.

But this mirror is just stunning. And I was in the market for a new one actually.

Tonight Jamie & I sat on the couch and watched some tv. We had stuff from thist past week to catch up on. Lost, 24, and Big Bang Theory. Some knitting related stuff was done, but not actual knitting. I wish. Sometimes vegging out on the couch is much needed. I hope to get some knitting time tomorrow.

There are just a few spots left in March's sock club, and another reminder for my 3$ Pattern Sale in my shop. I also still have a few pre-order Knit Kits left, and I've re-plenished my stock for the Scrabble Earrings, so EVERY letter is available! I've also got a few Knitting Needle Earrings left by Saving Nine Creations, and they're on major sale!

november fourteen :: 98 weeks old

Sean is 98 weeks old today.

When you pull out a camera - Sean now says "Cheese!" It's too cute.

This morning after dropping off Sean at daycare, I did drive through at Tim Horton's. Oh boy did I have a horrible drive through experience. The guy shoved the food in my face. Then he told me that I was counting my coins too slowly, to go pull over and walk back to the window when I had exact change. Uhm, no. I have a baby in the car, and the place to pull over wasn't exactly in view of the window due to other cars being parked. There was NO one in line behind me until the last second at the drive through window, so I wasn't holding anyone up, AND it was POURING rain. I filed a complaint online - and we'll see how long it takes for me to get a response.

My next stop was at Purolator for a missed package from the day before, it was my new cell phone. It's on the charger now, and once it's fully charged I'll call Telus to have my number activated on it. I wonder if that service department is available on the weekend, I guess I'll try over the weekend, if not, Monday. No rush.

Today I started out with 803 emails in my personal email inbox. Now I have 230. I cannot believe some of the stuff that was sitting in my inbox that wasn't necessary to keep. And a bunch of really old emails that I finally got around to emailing back. I still have those 230 that I will tackle tomorrow. Must clean out my inbox. Been doing some cleaning in my life lately - I will get more into that on another day - it's a post of it's own. But it's a good de-clutter and organization, both physically and mentally.

I've re-stocked WIP Tubes in the shop today. There are a few other items that I'm currently waiting on for re-stocking in the shop - so stay tuned!!

My in-laws came for dinner tonight, and we played Chickenfoot with Dominoes. I'm loving that game. Of course, I won....! I've played only twice in my life, winning both times! I guess I am just a natural!
