12.12.10

sleepingcutie

The every 2-3 hour wake-ups are not so bad, especially since I get to look at this face while feeding him. His skin is so soft, and I just love the bonding time.

3boysmas

Today was a lazy Sunday and in the evening we celebrated Chanukah at my parents house as well as Jamie's birthday. It was a quiet dinner, and the boys got spoiled with gifts.

qseattable

The thing I need to tackle now is getting out of the house with 3 kids. I had finally figured out how to get out of the house with 2 kids - on time (ish) - but now... 3?! Especially with a newborn? It's a tad hard. But I am sure I'll figure it out. Just need to figure out what works and what doesn't and come up with a system. Trial and error. I'm sure we'll figure it out.

Just like I'm trying to figure out how to get some knitting time in my day. I will get there... I keep telling myself! It will come. There are so many movies that have just come out on DVD that I can't wait to finally watch. At least I can watch movies while feeding Quentin.... just can't knit and do that at the same time, unfortunately. Sometimes I wish I had more hands than I actually do. (And more hours in the day). Don't you?

hatandboots

Quentin was dressed too cute today, I had to take some pictures. I absolutely love his winter boots that he's wearing. And the hat he's wearing, is a sneak peak of something Quentin got in my Virtual Baby Shower. (Thank you Sarah for knitting Quentin this hat!) The awesome leg warmers that came with the hat, won't fit Quentin for a good while, but once he fits in them, I'll definitely photograph him wearing them! Today was the first time Quentin was dressed up in clothes rather than being in a sleeper. He was going to go watch his oldest brother skate, so we had to get all dressed up!

macktears

Mackie has been obsessed with my camera lately. He wants to hold it and use it. He was very upset this morning that I wouldn't let him use it. I think we might actually be getting Sean an extremely inexpensive digital camera (boxing day sales maybe!?) and then we'll give Mack Sean's Fisher Price digital camera to play with. Do I have 2 future photographers in my house? They're both obsessed with taking photos on the toy digital camera.

Sean impressed me today with his skating. It's been a few weeks since I've been to watch him skate, and has he improved majorly! (And please ignore Mack begging me while being very uspet to use my digital camera).

seymors
On our way home from Sean's lesson, we stopped off to get Sean's skates sharpened. Jamie wanted to me to check out "the experience" of getting your skates sharpened. Apparently Seymour is the guy to go to to get your skates sharpened. He's the skate doctor. He's a pretty funny guy, Seymour. His shop is a wee tiny garage behind some building near our house, and it's pretty nifty in there. He knows how to properly sharpen & contour a blade, and I am sure I'll see the difference next week when Sean gets back on the ice. Seymour even has a mouse as a pet who has a house made out of a hockey skate. It's too cute.

A CLSC nurse came to our house today, and the good news is that, on the high calorie diet, Quentin gained 20 grams from yesterday. Today he weighs 5 lbs 1.5 oz. Luckily I don't have to take a trip to the Montreal Children's Hospital, and I have to keep doing what I'm doing. And by keep doing what I'm doing - is the high calorie diet, and waking him to feed every 2-2.5 hours - which is really brutal. I ended up having to take a nap all afternoon (as soon as the nurse left until supper tonight). I couldn't keep my eyes open.

I also never got around to taking the surgical tape strips off yesterday, as I ran out of time. I was able to find some time to have my mom come over today to help me take them off. I don't know why I was so scared of having them off - it wasn't so bad. We cleaned my scar and it's looking very good, healing quite nicely. Thankfully. It also feels so much better now that they've been removed. My skin feels freer and not as itchy.

My email inbox is out of control again, I have Ravelry message to reply to... so if I owe you a note or an email or a message... stay tuned... it's coming soon. I promise. Personal time? What's that? I'm dying to knit a stitch, read some of my book... you know... when I get a moment.

12.10.10 :: 35 Years

Jamie35

Today is Jamie's 35th birthday.

daddyscake

The boys enjoyed helping Nana top the cake with whipping cream & strawberries. However, the strawberries ended up going one on the cake, one in their mouths. My boys love strawberries.

cousinsQandN
For dinner, we had some special guests come tonight. Jamie's step-cousin and her boyfriend had a baby boy just 8 weeks ago. It was nice to finally meet their son Noah. It's amazing, the difference between 11 lbs and 5 lbs. I can't wait until Quentin and Noah can really play together at family functions. It'll be nice that they're close in age.

This morning, I spent a good 2 hours opening parcels that I got in the mail. A knit friend, Girlknits, hosted a virtual baby shower for me (I've never heard of a virtual baby shower before having one done for me!). I received a ton of mail over the last few weeks. Lots of it! They all said not to be opened before November 21st. I got a check list from and as the mailed arrived, I let her know from whom and checked them off my list. Then November 21st came along and I was still missing half the mail. (Still to this day there are a few missing packages that have not yet arrived). On November 21st, I was told to wait a few extra days, to see if the rest came. Then 8 days later, my water broke (Nov 29) and then Quentin was born on November 30th and I was in the hospital until I got home on Saturday, December 4th. I FINALLY got to open them all today and photograph everything. That was quite the job! It took me almost 2 hours! Then I had to go to the CLSC to get Quentin weighed (more about that in a minute). Then ran to Walmart with my mom for newborn diapers and bottles (I had to chuck all bottles that I had from Sean & Mackenzie as they were not BPA free). Then I picked up Sean & Mack from daycare with my mom and by the time I got home, our guests were just arriving. So... I have not yet had time to sit down in front of my computer and organize all the photos from my virtual baby shower to put on my blog. Stay tuned for all that over this weekend. (Most likely on Sunday). But I want to thank everyone who sent Quentin a package so very very much. It was extremely thoughtful and I can't believe how much hand knit items this kid now owns! And all the lovely gifts you guys sent for me too. That was beyond awesome of everyone. Stay tuned for my show & tell.

So, my mom was pressuring me a bit to get Quentin weighed today - she wanted to know how he was doing because he has to be a certain weight for his Brit Milah (some rabbis as I said ask for the baby to be 5 lbs 8 oz and some require the baby to be 6 lbs). So I got a hold of the nurse that came at the beginning of the week, and she wasn't able to come to me today, but I was able to go to her at the actual CLSC building near my house. From Monday to Tuesday he gained 30 grams, and unfortunately from Tuesday until today he only gained 20 grams in 3 days. This has us a bit worried, and after talking a bit with the nurse and her making some phone calls to the baby nutritionist, Quentin is now on a high calorie diet for a bit, until he can show that he's gaining enough weight at a steady pace. His weight gain over the last 3 days is rather slow. Usually by day 10, a baby is supposed to have reached their birth weight. Quentin is about 5 lbs 1 oz right now, 9 oz shy of his birth weight. Though, some say preemies take a little longer to regain their birth weight. Upon leaving today - we decided that a nurse will come visit me tomorrow, most probably at my house, (though I might have to go in to the clinic - but I will wait for a phone call) and if he doesn't gain any or sufficient amount of weight before tomorrow (in a 24 hour period) then I will have to go take Quentin to the Montreal Children's Hospital. I am absolutely praying that it does not come down to this. I will also be waking Quentin up every 2-2.5 hours to feed him, instead of letting him do 3-3.5 hours which he's been doing lately. The only thing I told the nurse that I am worried about, is him not being hungry in 2-2.5 hours and then regurgitating the food that he's eating/or being forced to eat, if he's not actually hungry.

It's going to be a long night. Setting my alarm for every 2 ish hours (from the START of the last feeding - not from when he's done eating last..!) I might be one tired mama tomorrow.

12.09.10 :: 129 weeks old

129wksM

Mack is 129 weeks old today!

just5moreminutes

Quentin is such a good sleeper (knocking on wood again)...
That he just wants 5 more minutes!

neosure

Because I was extremely concerned with Quentin's weight (Monday it had dropped to 4 lbs 15 oz) and he has an extremely tiny mouth, the nurse found that he was bruising me and I was all cracked from attempting to nurse. Because Quentin was premature, and I cannot tell how much he was actually eating when nursing, or if he was even getting enough, I decided to call it a day, and formula feed him. He's much happier on formula, and we're both much happier now. I had said that I really wanted to try to nurse, but that if it didn't work out - that I wouldn't be heart broken over it. So Quentin is on Similac Advanced Neosure (formulated for premature babies) and the nice thing about it - is that it's paid for (by the gov't medical plan we're on) for the entire first year. An entire year's worth of formula for free. I couldn't believe it. I remember how much money we used to fork out for formula for both Sean & Mackenzie. I'm certainly not complaining this time!

So... things are starting to get a little bit more organized around here. I managed to go today for a long overdue eyebrow waxing that I meant to do before going into labor, but that didn't happen. I finally unpacked my hospital bags and am on top of the laundry (don't worry, I'm not doing any lifting - and I'm squatting by my knees if I have to lower myself down). There were several times today where I totally forgot that I'd even had a Csection just over a week ago. That is good and bad. Bad because I don't want to hurt myself by doing something I probably shouldn't be, if I forget, and good, because that means I'm healing. I'm definitely looking forward to not having to rely on people for lifts, etc. I really can't wait to move on past the healing stage. But it's looking good so far, and hopefully I'll be brave enough to remove the surgical tape from my wound tomorrow. (Though I need someone else to do it for me, as I have to lie down for the tape to be removed). I was instructed to remove whatever has not fallen off at the week's mark (which they were applied a week ago today). Hopefully I won't chicken out! (I had a bit of anxiety in the hospital when the nurse removed the clips from my surgery - once she removed the first one, it wasn't so bad, but of course she removed the easiest one first - the outside ones didn't hurt at all - but the middle clips - those burned my skin upon removing them! Ouch!) I guess you can say I am a bit of a scared-y cat when it comes to surgical/medical stuff.

12.08.10

QCostco

Quentin and I decided to venture out today for a bit with my mom. (I won't be able to drive for a while - hoping to be back in my car by the end of the year though - we'll see how I feel). Quentin looks soooo cozy in his car seat, all bundled up. And of course, he's been wearing his Twist Hat a lot. I think he'll be wearing it until it no longer fits him. I didn't get all the errands I wanted to accomplished today, so I think we'll head out a little bit more tomorrow. I hate having to rely on a ride, which is a downfall to having a Csection.

qrhodaoutfit

I promised Rhoda a photo of Quentin wearing the outfit she sent him. He fits into it perfectly right now and he doesn't have too much to wear, since he's swimming in most newborn outfits. He's a tiny little 5 lb baby. He will have plenty to wear once he actually grows in size - but until then... he's limited on his preemie wardrobe. (And it's so hard to find in stores too).

I can't seem to keep my eyes open past 10 pm these days. I find myself falling asleep on the couch or in bed, while trying to watch tv. I've been trying organized since getting home from the hospital. Unfinished business from before my water broke, things I wanted to organize or clean. I can't do too much at once, because of my Csection, so slowly things are getting done. I am getting enough sleep though - Quentin is a very good sleeper. He does get up every 3 hours to eat, but it's usually 11pm (which I am still up) and then in the middle of the night it's just 2 am and 5 am (ish). Then the next feeding is in the morning when I'm already up with Sean & Mack for the day. Sleep is good though! I'm certainly not complaining.

He's still not eating as much as I'd like him to be - and I'm hoping that he has been gaining weight. I hope to get him weighed by the end of the week, if not I'll wait until the free clinic at the local CLSC on Tuesday to get him weighed - but I kind of which I knew how he was doing in that department. It's the one scary thing about having a tiny newborn.

12.07.10 :: 1 week old

1wkQ

Quentin is a week old!
(Newborns look like old men, don't they?)

3boysbackseat

Today I was snowed in, and my hubby had my car (not that I can drive right now anyhow (yet)) and I convinced my mom to pick me up before going to pick up the boys from daycare. I wanted to bring Quentin to the daycare, as Sean & Mack's teachers have been asking about him. I couldn't believe that we got all 3 of them in the back of my mom's car. A little bit of a tight fit but we managed. I had to grab a photo of the 3 of them lined up in the car.

spie

Today I made Shepard's Pie for dinner. I actually did not follow any recipe at all. I had never made it myself, and Jamie just basically told me the way he makes it - and I altered it a bit. It was quite easy actually. I think the only thing that was a tad hard was mashing the potatoes because of my Csection. I guess the motion of actually mashing them made me a bit sore. It turned out delicious, and now we have leftovers! I was begged last night to make it again. I don't think I'll make it too often though, because potatoes are rather fattening to eat. Jamie and I agreed that as soon as my Cesection is healed and I am cleared from the doctor, that we will start getting back into shape together. (I like this plan). (New Years Resolution!?)

I am really starting to feel like my old self. I'm talking pre-pregnancy, pre-miscarriage self. I feel like I was not myself this entire pregnancy, whether it was the hormones, or what, I don't know. But I'm really starting to feel better. I know the last few weeks of my pregnancy I couldn't concentrate on much either. I find my concentration and my patience now are much better than they were just a week ago.

Quentin has been an awesome baby so far (knock on wood). He's a really good sleeper (can I say he's quite boring and all he does is sleep right now?) and barely cries. He'll only cry when he's absolutely starving. Though, most of the times, it's me waking him up to feed, because he's on a strict feeding schedule due to his weight.

Knitting time!? Haven't really had any time since getting home from the hospital. Reading time? Yeah, not really either. I have watched some TV though (while feeding Quentin) but if it's at night, I tend to pass out while watching TV. He's really only getting up twice at night (11pm feeding - I'm still up usually, 2 am and 5 am are the 2 key hours in the middle of the night we're up eating). I try to go to bed after his 11 pm feeding, to get in a few extra hours, though I've always been a night owl, so this has been a tad hard.

12.06.10 :: 205 weeks old

205wksS

Sean is 205 weeks old today.

menorahwindow
I finally got to celebrate Chanukah at home.

chanukah5

Last night we took some family photos with the menorah.
(Yes, we were all wearing Habs tshirts - except for Quentin who needs to grow into his)
Sean & Mack just got their Habs tshirts yesterday for Chanukah.

Qbath

Last night Quentin also got his first bath at home. He was bathed once while we were in the hospital before he ended up in the incubator.

Some tid bits from last week:

Before my water broke, I had called my GP. She wasn't in & booked solid for the next day but spoke to Jamie's cousin who is the secretary there, and told me that if I get no where with my OB, to call her back, and she'll see if my GP could squeeze me in tomorrow (for the hacking cough I had before going into the hospital). In that phone call I learned that the clinic that my GP works out of - is closing it's doors in February. (Just my luck with doctors or what!?) My GP is still keeping her patients, just not sure where she will be working out of yet. I am guessing I'll know more come Sean's 4 year check up in December (which at the same time is Quentin's first check-up). I actually in the end ended up being able to book an appointment with my original OB on her last day (Nov 30) before she leaves on Maternity. I was glad I was able to book it with her, and honestly, I was going to discuss with her at the same time, that new OB she had me see on the Friday before my water broke. However, I never made it to that OB check-up as I was already admitted to the hospital (and actually, my appointment was for 10:30 am and Quentin was born at 10:27 am). Ironically the new OB was on call when my water broke. I kind of laughed in her face and said "See... I evict them early". (Though, I kind of wish Quentin had stayed in one more week, maybe we could have avoided the whole nursery/incubator/IV/Monitoring/Antibiotics, thing. Though, I know of a 38 and a half weeker that needed the same treatment as Quentin that was born a few days after him. So you never know). And now I have to pray that our GP doesnt end up in a clinic too far from here, and I have to switch GPs for us & the kids... yet again.

Sean said something funny a few days before I went into labor :: That food made the baby in my belly, and the ultrasound machine makes the baby grow when the doctor puts the blue stuff (gel for the ultrasound machine) on my belly and rubs it all around. Ahhh, the stuff kids come up with. He has questioned how Quentin got out of my belly - but now that I didn't end up with Vbac I can avoid the fact that some babies are born... naturally. The boys have been quite respectful of the fact that I have a "boo boo" on my tummy and they have to be careful to not touch my belly until it feels better.

The CLSC nurse came this morning and weighed Quentin. He's now 2.25 kg, which is 2250 grams, or 4 lbs 15.4 oz. Crap! That was Sean's discharge weight from the hospital (he was born 5 lbs 5 oz). I need him to gain weight, as he needs to somewhere between 5 and a half pounds to 6 lbs (depending on the mohel) for his Brit Milah. He lost more than 10% of his birth weight now (which was 5 lbs 10 oz) and I am scared that he's not going to gain weight fast enough. I fear that the nursing I was doing was not enough, and his mouth is so tiny that I don't even think he's latching properly (the nurse found bruises on my left side and it's all cracked - no fun & rather painful if you ask me). I am not sure how nursing is going to go - which is super hard for premature babies. I will let you know what I decide to do about that.

It’s all about Tuesday, Nov 30th at 10:27 am

Hello!! We're alive! And finally home! It's been a long week - and have I got quite the story to tell you! Yes! We're now a family of 5! Baby boy 3 decided to come a little early! (And my hospital bag was packed and then my water broke - third time's the charm, eh?)

My water broke on Monday, Nov 29, mid afternoon. It was a high tear. When I first went into the case room at the hospital, they couldn't see that my water broke. They have this strip of paper that they use to test, and it's orange. If it turns olive green, it's amniotic fluid. At first the paper wasn't turning green, so they were just going to monitor me for a bit and then send me home. I knew my body though! They monitored me and was about to send me home. While being monitored my water broke ALL OVER the bed I was being monitored in, and they admitted me. All the primrose oil capsules I was taking and red raspberry leaf tea I was drinking did absolutely nothing. My cervix was hard as a rock (no surprise) and had to be induced (with oxytocin). I was the only one laboring all night, everyone else who had come in, had their babies before midnight on the 29th. After 18 hours of labor I was stuck at 2 cm and was at 2 cm for a long time. I labored in a jacuzzi tub for most of the night (which was fantastic as it relieved pressure off my back) but my body just couldn't relax passed dilate past 2 cm (50% effaced). I was on the highest dose of oxytocin and they couldn't give me anymore. It was already a risk to my body as I was trying for Vbac. The doctor on call Tuesday morning happened to be the head of the Gynecology department and she came in to assess. Basically she told me what I didn’t want to hear – she recommended that I have a Csection. I was still only 2 cm dilated 50% effaced by morning and he was very high up. After talking things through, I finally agreed to do a Csection, and we signed papers. I also decided that since I was having a Csection and already being cut open, that I would tie my tubes. While we were waiting for the OR (and I was being prepped for my Csection) baby boy’s heart sped up a lot and the OB said that she would have had me go into the OR soon after that anyhow, had I not agreed to do it electively. My sister's boyfriend's cousin/friend was on duty as if 8 am on Tuesday, Nov 30th, and though she didn't take my case (she felt weird to have to do internal exams on me) she was around, since I was the only one there at that point. It’s amazing how, even when you discuss what is going on, you still get nervous. I thought I would be more calm about it this time if that’s what ended up, but that’s not how my body reacted. (Mack’s Csection was emergency, so when in that stressful situation, my body freaked out and I shook the entire surgery). It’s just the same even when you are prepared for the Csection, my body shook the entire time of the surgery. It’s just too bad that they couldn’t do anything for me, and that my body was just not responding. (I did get to crochet a bit in labor - I worked on some more bookmarks. I couldn't knit though, as where they put my IV line, in my wrist, gave me very bad mobility with my hand).

ORpic

Quentin Myles was born Tuesday, Nov 30th, at 10:27 am.

After my Csection was over, Jamie was already in the nursery with the baby taking care of whatever tests that they need to do at that point. I was whisked away to recovery. I was told it would just be an hour, (like I remember it being with Mackenzie’s Csection). This time, I had a spinal instead of a double dose of epidural (Mack's Csection) and it took forever for me to move my feet (the requirement to be released back to my room). I did ask for one dose of Morphine to help with any pain that I would have once the spinal wore off (learned later on that the morphine shot made my arm bruise really badly where they injected me). The spinal made me itch for a good 24 hours after my surgery. It took a lot of benadryl to make it stop. Finally I was able to go back to my room and then had to wait for the orderly to get off his lunch break to take me back to me room. I was dying to hold the baby already, and didn’t like the fact that I ended up being in recovery for almost 2 and a half hours. (Damn shortage of staff at the hospital!)

I was finally reunited with the baby and Jamie and had a good 3 hours before things started to go badly. A nurse doing a check noticed Quentin was breathing hard. So they took him to the nursery and called in the Pediatrician that was on call. I had met him earlier on, as he was in the OR since Quentin is considered premature (born before 37 weeks). Quentin was having respiratory issues and at that point was being transferred to the Montreal Children’s Hospital (or wherever had an available place for him that have a NICU). They had a pick-up to do first for a baby with a much more urgent case, and would be by around 11-12 Tuesday evening to pick him up. He was placed in an incubator. He was given an IV (in his hand) and some doses of antibiotics. Basically the amount of air he was breathing in - he wasn't breathing back out (so there was too many CO2 bubbles in him). The pediatrician came to talk to me, and he was beyond wonderful. They ran a bunch of tests and every test that they did, showed signs of improvement, so by the time the Children’s hospital was ready to pick him up – he had improved enough to stay where we were – since the hospital I had Quentin at – does not have a NICU. (Had I realized this - I don't know if I would have chosen this hospital to deliver in - now that I think about it). They don’t even have a full time nursery (under staffed/small hospital). Anyhow, I was beyond upset. I was stuck in my bed (they wouldn’t let me out of bed until Wednesday morning when they took out my IV and catheter), and Quentin was in an incubator on IV and antibiotics in the nursery. It was heartbreaking. Very emotional. I broke down in tears. I felt helpless. Useless. I wanted to be with my baby. Jamie took some video of Quentin on my digital camera so that I could see what was going on as per the pediatrician recommendation. (You see how wonderful he was/is?)

incubator

Me visiting Quentin on Wednesday, December 1st, in the morning after being able to get up. I was so round and swollen from the drugs they pumped into me during my surgery.

Quentin was stable overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday. Our goal Wednesday was to get him out of the incubator. I finally got him out of it by 3 pm on Wednesday (and I was already up & walking by then) and it was so hard to hold him with all the wires & tubes hanging from him. He was on a few antibiotics and an IV drip as well, all for 72 hours (which ended Friday night, Dec 3rd, 2010). Originally the IV was in his hand, but once he started to not be lethargic anymore, the IV wouldn’t stay in his tiny hand anymore, they had to shave his head and put the IV in his head. (That was Thursday, December 2nd). I was heartbroken that they had to shave part of his head to put the IV there. I guess he will be wearing a lot of hats until his hair grows in. At least it’s winter. My mom said that I should be lucky that they put the IV on the side of his head - when I was born, they put an IV in my head - smack in the middle! At least I could take pictures of Quentin from the side - and not see the IV). Quentin was showing improvements out of the incubator on Wednesday to Thursday that the pediatrician finally let him not be monitored anymore (they were monitoring his respiration, heart rate and his saturation) and released him back into my care. I was expressing milk and feeding him what he would take in a cup, syringe, syringe with a tube, however he would take it. There was one evening where he didn’t eat anything at all, as per doctor’s orders. However, he wasn’t really showing any interest in eating, as I am sure the antibiotics and IV drip were making him not want to eat. It was a little frustrating.

This week Mack was 128 weeks old.

204wksS

And Sean was 204 weeks old.

My milk finally came in, and he latched for the first time on Friday evening (December 3rd). He was being supplemented on Similac 24 in the meantime, as it is higher in calories and they usually give this for premature babies. I am not sure how the breastfeeding will go - but I will try my best. He does still need the supplementing of formula, because of his prematurity and hopefully when the CLSC comes in the new few days to check on us (with their baby scale) he'll have gained some weight. He has a really tiny mouth, and I'm in a lot of pain. I'm not sure how this breast feeding thing will work out - but I will try. If it doesn't work out - I will not be heart broken over it... as it didn't really work out the first two times.

Once the IV came out, I just wanted to go home. It had been an extremely long week. Even though Quentin had a bit of a rough start to life, he fought it all on his own, and showed us how strong he really is. The way everything worked out – was truly a blessing. Quentin is precious and tiny (born 5 lbs 10 oz and discharged from the hospital at 5 lbs 2.89 oz) and we all love him to bits.

ridehome

On the way home from the hospital!

I got home around lunch on Saturday, and had family over all afternoon/evening. By the time our last guest left last night, I was passing out in my bed. Quentin was very good last night, and woke up just to eat/be changed. He is a really good sleeper (knock on wood) and hopefully that won't change. It feels fantastic to be home. (Yes, I even missed the internet! Along with my own bathroom, my own bed, my things, and just the comfort of my own home!)

We're now a family of 5! And I'm the Queen of the house. Hopefully all this testosterone won't be too much! I'll have to eventually get a female pet! I hope I've covered everything but I can't think if I've forgotten anything. If I think of anything I will for sure tell you later.

11.28.10 :: 47 months old

47mosS

Sean is 47 months old today.
One month left & he turns 4 years old.
Four! I just don't believe how fast time flies.

I was on my own today as of lunch time with the boys (after a nice 12 hour sleep last night - thank you Jamie!) Jamie entered himself into a poker tournament. (The same tournament that last year he 'lost' his Cashmere scarf I knit him - excuse the bad photography of that scarf on Ravelry - I knit that scarf 4 years ago). This year, I refused to let him take that scarf with him (he still wears it!)

I survived today. My mother came in the afternoon to give the boys a bath. (I cannot wait to be able to bend into the tub to give the boys their bath again). Then at dinner time, my family came over to have dinner here. I'm battling a very bad cold, and I wanted to keep the boys inside as well. They also both have a wee bit of a runny nose, and I didn't want theirs to get worse.

The boys had a few moments today where I wanted to stay away from them (think pillow fight but with teddy bears) and I didn't want to get in between them and get whacked. Ahhh, the joys of toddler boys. But over all, they were pretty good for me today. I can't actually complain.

Our Montreal Alouettes won another Grey Cup today, 2nd year in a row. So very proud of the Als! Sadly though, on a day to enjoy our win, Canadian Actor Leslie Nielson passed way, at the age of 84. I am a fan of his work (Naked Gun, Airplane!, etc).

Praying my cold goes away soon. Jamie says my belly looks really low now and he never saw my belly drop this low with either pregnancy with Mack or Sean. He told me he also thinks this baby is coming out in 5 hours or less. Sure...! Where he is getting this from? I have no idea. That would be nice. (Both my labors with Sean & Mack were 32+ hours equaling about 65 hours of labor between both boys approximately). A quick delivery this time would be so very nice. (Though, I need enough time to work a bit on La Novia while in labor though - already packed into my hospital bag - which I plan to finalize in the next day or two. That bag seems to have magical powers though. The last 2 times I packed it (meaning finished it) - my water broke the very next day. Hmmmm!

Off to go read some of my advanced readers copy of Arranged and get some more rest. On tap for tomorrow!? Catching up on some stuff on the PVR, working on Bittersweet Vines (I should be able to get the cowl done in just a few hours) and sipping tea. I'm house bounding myself tomorrow, so that I can hopefully nurse this cold back to health - without meds. (Another thing I miss while pregnant, the luxury to be able to take Tylenol Cold).

Crap, Chanukah is on Wednesday at sundown. Better wrap those gifts I got the boys, take out the fun menorah & find where I put the candles. Even though we're not religious (at all), I still like to keep up tradition in the house, so that the boys don't miss out. Plus, it's fun to light the menorah. It's just so pretty. Can't believe how early Chanukah is this year. We're not really doing Christmas this year with Jamie's step-family (except maybe something small once my in-laws get back from Toronto) as every other year it's in Mississauga, Ontario at my step-brotehr-in-law's house, (the other years it's in Montreal) and we're not going to Toronto this year either very pregnant (hopefully not anymore by Xmas) or with a newborn. It'll be a quiet holiday season at our place. So, at least I can give the boys Chanukah.

11.27.10 :: 36 weeks pregnant

36wkspg3
36 weeks pregnant today!
For the last couple of weeks, I as PRAYING I would not go into labor until AFTER Anne Hanson's workshop. Water didn't break & I made it safely to the end of the workshop.
(Totally thought the chair I sat in from 9 am until 4pm would definitely send me into labor though! Oh what un-comfortness! Still pregnant but in a LOT of pain now.)

annedemo

Anne demonstration something.
(She demonstrated a few things, can't remember which one this was).

onerepeat

The morning class was a lace techniques class called "Lace Start to Finish".
It was an intermediate/advanced class.
She showed us a provisional cast on, using a crochet chain.

castonline

Once we were done one repeat of the lace pattern, we bound off. then we picked up the cast on from the chain, and started to work in the other direction (pretty darn neat if you ask me).

castonripout

And we all got a thrill out of pull the crochet chain out. I know I did!

hemedge

Then we worked on a hemmed cuff.

pickedupsts

I was a bit out of it today (fighting off a cold and being 36 weeks pregnant, I have a problem focusing these days), so I didn't finish what I started before the morning class ended. I will absolutely finish it at home though, so that I can see how it looks, etc. It was nice to hang out all morning with Tara, whom I hadn't seen in a bit. She didn't take the afternoon class though.

bittersweetoriginal

The afternoon class was called "Bittersweet Vines - Neckwarmer & Mitts".
I got to touch the original cowl and mittens. Anne brought them with her.

bittersweetstart
I started my project, (kinneared Anne sitting in the middle in this shot!)

However, again, I didn't finish the cowl (I don't think anyone actually 100% finished it) in class. I will work on it - I really like the way it's designed - you would never imagine it was worked in the way it is, unless you've knit it yourself. Pretty neat Anne!

I chose stash yarn for this project, Naturally Merino & Fur in Turquoise. I have 262 yards in 2 skeins, and according to Anne it uses (for the small size) only 150 yards for both the neckwarmer and the mitts! Yeah, Anne couldn't believe it either, that it used such little yarn.

annelanovia

Anne took some photos of my La Novia (on top of my awesome tote bag that reads "Life is too short to use cheap wine"). So I took a picture of her taking a picture.

pineivy
This is an original Pine & Ivy by Anne as well. It was so nice to see up close & personal. She said there were 4 versions she made, and this was one. (One has neck shaping or something).

I have to say that today was beyond incredible. I'm so happy that baby boy decided to sit tight and not come early. (After all, Mack did break my water in my 36th week, [and Sean in my 37th week]). I promised Anne that I would work on my La Novia while in labor, to distract me from labor pains. I think it'll make a great project to work on in the hospital. Don't you think?

I am sad that I won't be able to take Anne's Sweater Fitness class tomorrow, but with my pregnant belly this large it's just a waste. Next time Anne's in town, I'm so there though for that sweater class. I hope everyone taking it tomorrow has fun.

After the workshop I came home and laid in bed for a bit while the boys watched some tv with me. I couldn't move. I really thought that I was going to go into labor tonight (so far - nothing). I'm in a lot of pain though. Hoping to not go to my due date (Xmas day - 4 weeks). Then it was time to get ready to go out. I totally wish I could have stayed on the couch tonight with my knitting. However, we had Jamie's best friend's surprise 35th tonight. A dinner party. A late dinner party. Not exactly what I had in mind for a Saturday night at 36 weeks pregnant. It was a pretty fancy restaurant, but when you're a large group, the menu is fixed, and I wasn't 100% impressed. The birthday boy was 150% surprised, and couldn't believe that he was the reason everyone was there together.

It's late now, and it's time to hit the sack. I'm solo parenting tomorrow, so I need some rest before entertaining 2 toddlers all day. Wish me luck!

11.26.10

Conversation I had with Sean today:

Me: My nose is running. I hate this time of the year.
Sean: It's running? Where?
Me: That's what you say when you have a cold and your nose won't stop dripping. You call it running.
Sean: So then go catch it.
Me: Thanks Sean. Maybe tomorrow. Mommy has no energy today.

I love talking to my toddler. It's so much fun to hear what will come out of his mouth.

I had my 36 week check-up today and it was absolutely useless. We talked a bit - since it was my first time meeting my doc’s colleague (as my doc is officially on maternity leave now due to the fact that she's pregnant and due the week after me), and she listened to the heartbeat (A steady 160). She doesn’t do internal exams until 37/38 weeks. I’m going to demand one at my next appointment next Friday (at a day shy of 37 weeks), if my water hasn’t broken before then. I told her that my first born broke my water in my 37th week (37 weeks and 5 days) and my 2nd son in my 36th week (36 weeks 6 days), and then she said “Well, I don’t think this baby is coming out that early”. How the heck does she know!?? Is she psychic? She didn’t even do an internal exam, maybe I’m dilating already? Who knows. And I’d never met this woman before today, so she knows me that well? She didn’t even measure my belly - which my doc has done every appointment until now from probably 28 ish weeks onward. I kind of feel like today was a waste of an appointment. Though, I did run into a friend in the waiting room - so that was nice to catch up with her.

Oh yes, get this, my new doctor starts talking about scheduling a Csection for 40-41 weeks if I don’t go before then naturally (since I’m going for Vbac this time). Is she insane? I’m doing everything I can to soften my cervix naturally so that this baby comes out in 2010. No way I’m still going to be pregnant in 2011. I’m 36 weeks tomorrow and so done. I've had 2 healthy and early babies. (Early but full term). I’ve never been more than 38 weeks pregnant, so she’s insane if she thinks I’ll still be pregnant at 40-41 weeks. My doc had talked about scheduling a Csection at 39 weeks now that my placenta praevia cleared, if I wanted to still do the Csection route. Not at 40-41 weeks. This doc seemed to push Csection, rather than my doc who was all “go for Vbac, you’re a good candidate". It just seemed like everything she said today resulted in a Csection.

I’m not sure how I feel about this new doc to be honest. I'm kind of hoping that my water breaks soon, and that she's not on call when I go into labor. We've got a busy weekend this weekend - so anytime after Saturday night (or Jamie prefers anytime after Sunday), I'm game to go into labor.

And now I'm trying to nurse a cold. (As per my conversation with Sean earlier today). I cannot even take anything for it - as every cold medicine is not safe during pregnancy. Drinking tea - of course and getting enough sleep. The cold has been building up for about 2 days now. The other night Jamie told me that he wanted to shoot me in the middle of the night, as I woke him up around 5 am, because I was snoring so loudly. I am not a person who snores. But I cannot breathe through my nose right now.... so I guess I must have been sleeping with my mouth open and started to snore. If only baby boy would come out - I could take cold medicine and not be sick anymore. Oh, that would be nice.

Besides my OB check-up today I wasn't allowed out of the house. Some of the roads were a sheet of ice, and Jamie banned me from going out. He wasn't worried about my driving - he was worried about everyone else's. I don't blame him. Other people scare me when it's ice out there. I'm really hoping the sticky snow doesn't come until after I've delivered baby boy. My feet don't fit into my boots right now (I'm that swollen), and I'm so close to the end of my pregnancy that I don't want to buy new boots.

I didn't knit a stitch today (or even crochet) - though I have some knitting homework that I need to take care of before going to bed tonight. I'll talk to you about the knitting homework tomorrow. Promise. I've been still on the crazy nesting kick, and I have been checking every skein in my stash (in my yarn room where all my yarn marinates before usage) and making sure that every skein that I have is indeed listed in my stash on Ravelry. This way when I want to look up yarn for a project, I can visually see everything. It's perfect. Also saves me from buying more yarn, when I probably already own what I have for a certain project that I'll want to do. (Giving total credit to Jenn for inspiring me to do this crazy stash clean-up). You know, I have yarn that I totally forgot that I even owned. I like finding yarn. It's fun! It's like finding money in your coat pocket after the summer when you go to take out your jacket for that upcoming winter.
