This morning after a little hiatus (from being sick) Mack finally got to go back to his music class! It was a lot of fun and we missed being there. Mack got to see his friends. It seemed that any of his friends with older siblings had them there because there was a professional day today. If I would have known I would have brought Sean late to daycare and let him have fun today too - he would have loved it.

Dropped Mack off at daycare after music and headed to work. I had a lot of catching up to do since I didn't work all of last week since I had Mack home from Monday to Friday and Sean home Tuesday afternoon until Friday. It wasn't as bad as I thought (the catching up) but I still had some overdue stuff to take care of.

This evening for dinner I pulled out some sauce that I made over the weekend (Jamie was super happy about this) and made some pasta with my homemade meat sauce. It had been a while since we'd had it (I'm talking months since the last time I made a batch - before I started my diet in January 2009, so it was definitely enjoyable. I had been avoiding eating protein on pasta (and pasta after 5pm I was trying to avoid as much as possible too) - which makes it harder to digest, making it really hard to lose weight, so during my weight loss phase I avoided it completely. But now that my metabolism is working in full gear, I am able to eat protein on my (whole wheat - always) pasta (even after 5pm) now, because I know my body will burn it off faster than it used to.

I love spaghetti faces. They are just the best.

And super funny at the same time!

Tonight I had the Knitting Guild Meeting (2nd Tuesday of the month). I got there just as a lecture was starting on spinning. Although I'm not really into spinning, (I'd rather spend my time knitting, the precious time I do get to do that), I enjoyed listening and even tried to spin on a stick (I'll photograph it tomorrow when there is some daylight. It actually came out interestingly!) The lecture lasted the entire meeting, so there wasn't really any time at all tonight to socialize but I got to work on my current design that I am working on, and got a lot accomplished on it. I am really glad that I got out of the house this evening, Jamie kinda made me go. I really just wanted to stay at home, but he thought it would do me some good since I wasn't feeling so well yesterday, to get out of the house. It actually did some good being out!

Today is Sesame Street's 40th Birthday! The first episode aired November 10, 1969.

Google's been celebrating all week! Here are the images seen on google in the last few days:

This morning we had music class. I managed to finished Mack's Best Friend's Birthday Blanket before leaving the house this morning. Talk about good timing. This morning all I had to do was weave in the ends. I also managed to get it done just before a company showed up to take some measurements for a quote on a railing for outside our house. We want it installed before the winter. I basically want the same thing my mother has outside her house, so I'm waiting for a quote.

Mack's Best Friend upon receiving his new blanket.

Mack's Best friend with his mom enjoying the blanket during music class.

After music I dropped Mack off at daycare and and headed to work. I was having problems today with the program I use at work and it wasn't allowing me to delete a field and it was just very aggravating. I am hoping that my manager will find the time to look into it before I start work on Friday. I even tried rebooting my computer, but that wasn't it at all. So frustrating.

After picking up the kids from daycare I realized that I had a UPS run from last week that I forgot, so I ran home to get it, and then ran to UPS before they closed. Made it there in the knick of time. I was home alone tonight with both kids as Jamie had Habs tickets for tonight. I made some simple whole wheat Mac N Cheese (cuz sometimes you just want simple) and the kids absolutely love it. Hey, I love it too.

The update on my grandfather is that he's been resting today and has had a bunch of tests that we won't know the results until tomorrow. I am going to go visit him tomorrow in the hospital sometime after the kids are in daycare now that he's stable. Since my grandfather is pretty much sedated to help him with the pain, at this point I would be going more for my grandmother, whom for the first bit of this journey didn't want anyone to come down to the hospital. But I think she's okay with visitors (immediate family anyhow) visiting. He's looking better but has a long recovery ahead of him. He's such a fighter, it's amazing.

This morning we had music and Mack was just being a real cutie. I think he knows that he's cute. And very photogenic. I love it.

Music class is a lot of fun this morning. We got there a few minutes late, but didn't miss music, only a bit of "gym time". We had a great time regardless.

After music I dropped off Mack at daycare and head to the post office. There was an issue with mailing International packages today. After waiting a long time to see if they would be able to get it to work, but they just couldn't. I headed to work from there. After work I picked up the boys and then took the boys to run an errand. I needed a gift bag for an upcoming birthday party we have. While we were there Sean decided that we had to go to to the grocery store "now". He decided we needed to buy Chicken. Funny kid.

So I picked up Chicken. Came home and fed the kids. Got them ready for bed, and then put them to bed. Sean tried every excuse in the book to stay up later. I was home alone with them, and when Jamie's not in, I know that he knows he can push my buttons. Jamie's the firm voice figure, and Sean knows that he can try to get away with things with me. It's tough.

Tonight I cleaned up my office so that I was able to do work in my office. I hadn't seen my desk in a while, so it's nice to have my working area back again. While working I watched the Habs game. They lost 4-3 to Calgary, very upsetting. This is not a good start to the new season. Very disappointing. Hopefully they can turn themselves around... and start to win some games.

Some new squares have been added to my Babette pile. They are soooo addictive.

Last night I managed to find these cute high top shoes with laces. They took me over 20 minutes to get them on his feet. I plan on leaving them at daycare and bringing him to and from in velcro shoes that I don't mind putting them on and off. Though, I don't know how much longer these size 3's will fit him, I don't plan on actually going out of my way to buy more of these for daycare. I have a full shoe wardrobe from Sean for Mack to use, so until Mack gets to a size I don't have, I won't be buying him shoes that he really doesn't need. It's honestly a ridiculous request.

This morning we had music class.

Mack just loves this class. I have a good time as well. I am friends with two of the moms in this class. One of them, wanted to show me a picture she had on her camera, so she called me over. I was standing next to her when she found them. Pictures her son took. He had pulled down his pants and took pictures of his thing. He's 7 years old. She had a chuckle and was sure that her son had done it for shock value. She will be talking to her son about it, as it's not right that he did that. Has your child done this? Is it normal? Is this what I have coming with my kids?

After dropping off Mack at daycare (and his teacher being incredibly happy that I got him high top sneakers), I got some gas in the car and headed to work where I sold even more chocolates from that last remaining box. (Somehow on Friday when I asked for 1 more box for my sister to take Sean door-to-door in her neighborhood while she babysat, I ended up with 2 boxes - 100 bars).

When I got to work I asked Jamie if the manager from the auberge called him back about the jacuzzi not working. Well, no one called him Monday. So I called the place today. Here's the conversation.

Robyn: "Hi, I'm calling to find out why no one called me back yesterday about the jacuzzi not working in Studio 5 over the weekend. I only rented that room for the jacuzzi, so the fact that it didn't work is an issue. Is it possible to speak to your manager please?"
Manager comes on the phone: "Yes, can I help you?"
Robyn: "Someone was supposed to call me back regarding the non-functioning Jacuzzi in Studio 5 from this weekend. Did you look into it?"
Manager: "Yes it was looked into".
Robyn: "And?"
Manager: "It doesn't work"
Robyn: "Ok, so what are you going to do about it?"
Manager: "What do you want me to do about it?"
Robyn: "Well, since we took that room because of the jacuzzi, I'd like compensation for it not working".
Manager: "I'll have to speak to the owner, but I could probably get you 25% off your next stay."
Robyn: "I don't want 25% off my next stay, I don't think I'll ever be coming back. I want a partial credit applied back to my credit card"
Manager: "I'll have to speak to the owner, but he'll either give you 25% off your next stay or a credit".
Robyn: "I don't want 25% off my next stay, I won't be coming back. You speak to him tomorrow about my partial refund and call me back. You have my number?"
Manager: "It's...."
Robyn: "Yes, thank you".

WHAT THE.....!

Definitely won't be going back there, and I bet you, I won't get a call back tomorrow.

On my way home I actually remembered to pick up cat food, or my cat wasn't going to have anything from breakfast tomorrow morning. (Oh, well there is emergency cans of tuna in the house, but it was Jazz our late cat that preferred the tuna than Zeus does). Picked up the kids, and spent the evening with them as Jamie had hockey tonight, and it's not Monday. Seems like his hockey schedule is changing..! He did tell me that it wouldn't interfere with knit nights, as there isn't any wednesday night games. Phew!

Off to go watch some tv and work on some projects, both knit and crochet.

september twenty-two

Sean went into daycare this morning with no issues. Hopefully we're back on track now, and the mornings with crying are long behind us again. He comes home every day saying he's had a good time, that's why I don't understand why he got off track for a bit there. Here's to hoping.

It was raining this morning, so I didn't walk with my friend Dara to our mom & tot class that we're taking together. Though, we had plans to walk and meet up where we would meet up if walking from home. Like last week, we met halfway and I parked my car there, as I work on Tuesdays after the mom & tot class. But today it's raining. Maybe we'll get to walk next week, if the weather doesn't get too cold. We're already the end of September!

Class was fun this morning. It's half an hour in the gym & then half an hour of music.

The mom sitting down with her son joined us today. Though, all the children in the class are way older then her son, and I think she felt kind of out of place. I know her from before this class, but I don't think she'll be coming back next week. While most of the kids are 14 months + (the class is for 14-24 months old), her son is almost 7 months old. That's a huge developmental difference. Most of the kids in the class are walking, while her son is just learning to sit.

Mack & his best friend (on the left).

After class I dropped Mack off at daycare, and headed to work. I'm in the middle of cleaning up a huge pile of harddrives. We are trying to figure out which ones are covered by the supplier and which ones need to be sent back to the manufacturer, and it's a huge mess (from before I started working there). Slowly but surely it's coming along at work. I hope to have my office organized and clean within the next few weeks. I can dream, right?

After work I picked up Sean from daycare first. I do this so that Sean sees that Mack really goes to daycare, I think I've mentioned this before. Anyhow, our conversation on the way to picking up Mack was too cute not to share.

Sean: "My brother's name is Mackenzie Riley".
Robyn: "Yes it is".
Sean: "The Cookie Monster told me so".

Apparently the Cookie Monster has been telling Sean a lot of things lately, including teaching him French.

I was told at Mack's pick up that he had a bit of a rough day today. Whenever another kid cired, he did too. It makes me upset/sad that he is like this, but I don't have a choice but to bring him to daycare. He's only been here for 3 weeks now, I'm hoping it'll get easier. I'm sure it'll get easier.

I came home tonight to my Swap on a Budget package being on my front step.
I love everything that I received!

I got a lovely skein of Cherry Tree Hill Sock Yarn.

And a skein of Sophie's Toes Sock Yarn, a brand I've never heard of before.
I love discovering new things!

This evening Jamie & I took the kids to go meet his friend Larry's new son. He's adorable. We spoiled him with lots of cute outfits, and we had cake & coffee. Another mutual friend was there with his girlfriend and we had to unfortunately cut the evening short as soon as Mackenzie demanded to be put to bed. Sean used to go to bed whenever he wanted (a learning experience for us, let me tell you) but, Mackenzie, like clockwork goes to bed at the same time every night. We felt bad to cut the evening short, but we had to get the boys to bed.

Sean threw a fit again this morning at daycare. He wanted to go to a birthday party again this morning. I'd like to know who has a children's birthday party on a Tuesday morning at 9 am? After a little fit at daycare, I finally got him into the classroom and then headed to meet my friend Dara to walk with our boys to their music class.

I met her at the point where we would have met up if I were walking from home. Since I had to go to work after this class, this was the easiest spot to meet her and walk the rest of the way to the class. The fresh air was nice and Mack enjoyed walking next to his friend C.

I am so glad that it's a small class. I put Mack in the 14-24 month class, which was a good decision. C's not a year old yet, but we wanted to take the class together. The other option was the class later right after ours, which was for 4-13 month old. Though, since it would be better for C to get stimulation from the older kids, we felt it was best to go in the older class than to put Mack in the younger class. I'm VERY glad that we're in the earlier class, because I saw some of the faces in the class after us, and I'm super happy I'm not in that class. A bunch of japs I'd rather not spend an hour with. And the second class is HUGE, and I much prefer a smaller atmosphere. More my style.

After music class I took Mack to daycare and then came home to make lunch. I headed to work. I left work a bit early today as I had a slight headache. I got all the work I needed to get done finished though, before leaving, so that's a bonus. I'll be working in the office again on Friday, so it's not that bad that I had to leave early today. I came home for a bit to take care of a few things before heading to pick up the boys from daycare. Again today I picked up Sean first, and he had a good day today, napping at nap time, and behaved himself. And the morning crying didn't last that long, so that's good.

When I picked up Mack I was given his first painting! He painted a lady bug today. Very cute. (With help of course). It went straight on the fridge.

After a very yummy dinner from Marathon's, our fave greek restaurant, and the kids were in bed, I went over to a fellow knitting guild member's house, as she had offered me her unused Yoga Mat. She wasn't using it, and hated that is sat there in the box staring at her in her basement. I really appreciated the offer! It's even in the color I wanted it in - purple! (Though, I would have been happy if it were in any other color as well). I am going to make her a thank you gift to bring her to the next guild meeting for her generosity. It was nice though, when going to her house, I got to drive by my old high school that I went to from grades 7-9 before switching the high school that I graduated from. It brought back really old memories.

Tonight after getting in, Jamie and I watched the Big Brother finale. I am so glad that Jordan won! I liked her best from the remaining people (though, I was rooting for either Russell or Jeff when they were still in the house). I really hope that Jordan & Jeff get together, they are so cute together.

After I watched an A&E episode of Hoarders and finished the test knit I am working on. Pattern detail will come soon, promise! I can't wait to show you all my latest design. I will photograph it tomorrow and then work on the PDF to be released. After my test knit, I worked a bit on Sean's blanket for daycare. Here's it's progress as of earlier today:

I am doing 6 rows of the blue and 2 rows of white. (I only have 1 ball of the white). Cascade 220 Superwash (so I can easily was Sean's daycare blanket!) I am really liking the way it's coming out! I can't wait to see it finished. It's so super fast to crochet a blanket! I'm glad I decided to crochet him a blanket over knitting. It would be Christmas before I'm done knitting a blanket for daycare for Sean.

august twelve :: 60 weeks old

Mack is 60 weeks old today.

I need to find a better system to get out of the house in the morning with both kids. I really don't understand how it takes me so long to get out the door. And then I remember I have 2 young kids. This morning I was about 8 minutes late to Mack's mom and tot class, our last Wednesday class. I don't feel so bad because the first 30 minutes is gym time, so we didn't miss any music. Sean decided this morning that he wanted to dress himself. That took like 45 minutes. He kept getting frustrated and screaming he couldn't do it, and then when I offered to help him or even just show him or get him started - he threw a fit that he wanted to do it himself. And then once he finally got dressed (shirt on backwards though), he decided he wanted to get undressed again and get dressed all over again. At that point I got really frustrated and was trying to figure out how to carry both kids down the stairs (since Mack's not walking yet) and get out the door.

After our class I checked in with the nutritionist for my weekly check-in (since I can't go on Friday) and I'm the same weight as I have been for the last two check-ins. 151.8 lbs on their scale (148.8 lbs on my scale). I can't get it to go down further! Dying to get off 3.8 more pounds. I want to hit 145 lbs on my scale (148 on theirs). Though, I'm in no rush for that to happen. Whenever it does...!

While Mack napped this afternoon I finished up some earrings I've been working on. I love them!!! I'm really on this jewelry kick. I even got compliments while wearing them out this afternoon). Sean's new teacher loves them, I think I'm going to give her a pair.

If you are interested in purchasing a pair, please either leave me a comments with your contact information (email address where I can reach you), or toss me an email (my email address is in my profile).

After Mack got up from his nap I went to the post office to mail a few things including some swap packages for a few swaps I'm in and hostessing. I wanted to make sure those got out in the mail before the mail deadline. I had finished packaging them up while Mack napped, so it feels good to get them en route.

After the post office, I found these tshirts for Mack. How could I not get them for him? They say his name on them!!! I cannot wait for him to fit into them, as they are 2T, 3T and 4T.

(The red one says Mack under the front of the truck).

I also picked up a twin size blow up mattress for Sean. I could have sworn that my mom brought home the one Sean slept on while we were in Florida this past January, but she says she left it there. I was expecting the mattress to be expensive, but including the pump it was under 20$. We need it for this weekend, but now we have one, and I'm sure it'll get plenty of use. It could also be used for any future sleepovers the boys have with their friends, for a comfy place for a friend to sleep on. I don't know, I'm just thinking ahead!

Tonight, after an easy leftovers dinner, the boys got their bath. Tonight, though, out of no where, Mack FREAKED out as soon as his body touched the water in the tub. Let me tell you though, it's the hardest bath I've ever had to give either boy. The water wasn't cold or hot (or Sean wouldn't have gone into it either). I just cannot figure it out. He screamed. Cried. Freaked out. I had to hold him down and wash him. I had to have Jamie hold him down while I rinsed his hair. There was no way he wasn't getting a bath tonight. He already doesn't get baths on a daily basis because of his eczema... I wasn't allowing him to skip tonight's bath. I really hope that he doesn't freak out in the next bath. It just doesn't make any sense. No issues with the pool though (that I know of), so I really don't get it. I guess I'll have to wait and see if he throws a fit the next bath.

Tonight after the boys went to bed Jamie and I watched 2 episodes of Dexter (Season 1 episodes 2 & 3). Holy is that show deranged. But Jamie and I are enjoying it. I really like Michael C. Hall. I was a huge fan of his on Six Feet Under and he's doing a great job in Dexter. Trivia - did you know that Michael C. Hall is married to Jennifer Carpenter who plays his sister on the show? It's weird seeing them as brother and sister in the show when I know in real life they're married. Newlyweds too. This New Years Eve will be their 1st wedding anniversary. Ah, the things you learn from IMDB. I didn't get any knitting done tonight as I had a ton of laundry to fold while we were watching tv. The laundry that just never ends. Ever.

august eleven

We had our last Tuesday class this morning with our fave music entertainers. I ended up signing up for their fall class starting in September. I put him in the 14-24 month class this time, at the earlier time slot. He'll be 15 months the week that the class starts. (He turns 14 months next Monday). This time, he was in the 3-14 month class, and I'm finding it to be a little boring. I know he's not walking yet, but there are a lot of kids a lot younger than him in the class. So he has no motivation from other kids to walk, etc. Or to stimulate him at his own level. Though, if I didn't take this class this past session, I wouldn't have met my new friend D. Her son is just under 4 months younger than Mack. (He was born on Yom Kippur (highest Jewish holiday) last year).

Mack had a good time in his class, as always.
He looks like such a big boy with his new haircut.
I can't get over it.

It's amazing how either big these kids are, or how tiny Mack is. A lot of these babies are a lot younger than him! (Except for the girl in the picture).

I didn't have a babysitter today, so Mack came with me to work. Jamie and I figured we'd try to see if he'd last in the Pack'n'play. My mom usually watches Mack while I work, but she is contagious for 48 hours from last night with Bronchitis. I hope she feels better soon.

Mackie gave me about 2 and a half hours before he really got cranky. There was no way I was getting him to nap there. I did surprisingly get a lot of work accomplished in the two and a half hours I was there.

I know, you don't have to tell me how ugly looking my office is. It's rather....boring. Everything's just blah. I plan to spice it up in there with some pictures of the kids, maybe a painting made by Sean (though Jamie's got all of that already in his office). But I'd like some of that in my office too.

Look at that face. Don't you just want to pinch his cheeks?

I ran some errands on the way home from work before picking up Sean from daycare. These days, it's just so much easier to do errands with just one kid. One of the errands, I ran into a thrift shop for my friend to see if I could get my hands on a game of Operation. Her son was playing Operation over the weekend with another friend and after the game was over he took the tiny pieces that came with the game and tossed them into the garbage (or was it recycling bin) at the camp site where everyone throws their garbage. She was so upset over it, as she now has to replace her friend's game. They were able to recover some of the pieces that he chucked, but 4 were missing. I thought maybe they'd have a game on sale, but they didn't. I know I'd seen Operation at a thrift shop before. I guess I just wasn't so lucky today. I'm still going to keep my eye open for one. She would just go to the toy store and buy her friend a new one, but the problem is, it's the original Operation game, and the newer edition isn't the same. They don't make them like they used to. If anyone sees a game at a thrift shop do let me know! They usually go for anywhere between 1.99 to 3.99 at thrift shops. I'd love to help my friend out so she stops stressing out! I have one more place to look in the next day or so.

Tonight I chilled at home with Jamie after the boys went to bed. We watched Big Brother which was on tv tonight, and I worked some more on my Clapotis. I'm really starting to like Russell, so I hope that he doesn't go home this week. We'll have to wait and see what Jeff does this week with the power that he has. If Russell goes home, I'm not sure I want anyone else to win. (Plus Russell is majorly good looking!)

I'm feeling better today. My runny nose seems to be not so runny anymore. Which is a darn good thing. How one gets a cold in summer... I have no idea.

Sean's been going to bed really well for the last few nights. I don't want to jinx anything, so I won't say it out loud, but he's been a very good boy at bed time. No complaints here. We (or rather I) had some rough nights putting him to bed last week, but this week so far, so good. Hopefully it'll stay this way.

july twenty-nine :: 58 weeks old

Mack is 58 weeks old today.

This morning Mack and I got to his class at the synagogue 15 minutes late. It took me forever to get Sean out of the door today after letting him sleep in. What a huge mistake that was. It's not good to let him sleep in (may affect his nap at daycare) and makes him really slow in the morning.

We had a good time in class today regardless of being late. We're really enjoying these summer classes. Turns out that a mom in our Wednesday class (today) is the daughter of my Aunt's friend. Small world! I thought she looked familiar but couldn't place her. She actually asked me today if I was friends with my cousin, but I told her she was actually my cousin. (Yes, Jenn, you!) I believe her daughter is 8 months old now. What a cutie.

After music class Mack & I went to the train station to pick up my husband's cousin and her daughter Rosie. They're staying with us until Sunday. Jamie's not really close with his cousin, but they're going through a rough time right now and I wanted to offer her 5 days away from "life". I showed her the house she grew up in (she was really happy about that), which was literally around the corner from my current house (2 streets away). She hasn't lived in Montreal in years though. They came back to our house, settled in, chilled while the two babies napped. I picked up Sean from daycare while my husband's cousin stayed back at my house with the 2 kids, as there is not enough room in the car for all of us. The bucket car seat which Rosie is in, barely fits in between both my boys' car seats. So if I can avoid it, I plan on NOT having all three kids in the car at the same time, except for Saturday night when we go to a friend's house about 30 minutes away for a BBQ. After Sean got home we played in the park across the street in the circle until it was dinner time.

Dinner included some fresh picked items from our garden.

After dinner the three kids took a much needed bath (after playing in the sandbox). They had a great time playing in the bath together. (Don't worry I blurred out Mack's wee wee, but this was the best shot of the 3 of them together, so I had to do some photoshopping skillz to omit his precious package without it ruining the photo - but you see nothing, so job well done, right?)

After tonight's bath it seems like my boys have the EXACT same hair... and I just love it. I love their curls. They're just gorgeous. Too bad it's not my hair...! It's Jamie's 150%. And by them having the exact same hair to the tee.... means they both need a haircut badly. It's out of control.

Sean had a good time chatting on the phone to my mom tonight. The kid loves to call people. (I better check my next phone bill to make sure there aren't any long distance charges).

After the kidlets were in bed, we watched the first hour of Yes, Man. My husband's cousin got really tired, so she went to bed, and I'm about to follow. I worked on Ishbel while watching the movie. I've now gotten to the end of Section B for the second time for the large size. I'm almost there!
