Keep or Toss?

cards

I've been organizing and de-cluttering lately, and doing a great job. The house is cleaner/tidier, and unwanted junk is being sold or tossed (recycled, or donated or even garbage, depending on what it is). I came across this pile the other day. Birthday cards, baby shower cards, etc. I have 5 birthdays of Sean's, 3 of Mack's, 1 of Quentin's. The 1st birthday is always the largest party we have for the kids, so there are a LOT of cards x3. Plus each kid had a brit milah. This is a lot of cards to keep. Not sure if I should chuck them all into recycling? Keep some? But where do I draw the line? What do you keep? How do you weed? Where do you draw the line? Input would be greatly appreciate. At least if I decide to keep some, everything is easy to find as I've organized (as they came in) into ziploc bags, after each event.

I am not a sentimental person, so I don't keep stuff like that. I say chuck into the recycling! But that is just me.

I usually keep the milestone birthdays...1,5,10

I know someone who takes a photo of the outside/inside of the card and then chucks them into the recycling bin.

I'm bad. I tend to save cards, too, but not so organized. Then I purge them when I get the urge. (no pun intended)You can't save everything and all the clutter gets very overwhelming if you don't have storage space! I did save my wedding cards in a scrap book, but to be honest I've never really looked at them again. I think maybe that's the answer...keep the special ones in a scrap book if you can.

I used to keep it all, but really? after 13 years of birthdays and other things, it just got to be too much. Plus all the stuff he would bring home from school! We have a few special pictures I've kept, but most of the time - recycling!

I kept a lot of cards, because I thought I would scrapbook them, but then I haven't had time to scrapbook. I, sadly, decided to too them.

I used to keep ALL cards. I still keep birthday cards (don't get as many) and I actually still keep my Christmas cards. Don't ask me why. It's just something I do. But I have to stop. What you might be able to do is save the front part and your kids (or the kids at school) can use them for collaging.

I am also quite sentimental, but considering our basement is an apartment that we rent, I need to keep "stuff" to a minimum. So, for each of my 2 kids, I have a rubbermaid container that I keep in the top of their closet. I put in their art and school stuff and when it gets full, I sort through it, to keep it in one container only. I also find, now that my son is approaching 11, there is much less stuff to keep (he is not big on crafts) so I can see the day coming when I can put a lid on his container, so to speak. Kinda sad, eh?

Ooh, tough call... I tend to keep the "special" cards, those that people have taken the time to fill with a personalized message. If all it says is "Happy Birthday, we love you!", I toss it :)

I never keep cards, but my youngest Josiah loves to save all of them. He has a box that he can keep cards and papers in and, when the box is full he has to throw some things away.
