41 Weeks

Sean decided the other day that he was taking over my father's company (since my dad was out of town) and decided that he needed to sit in the CEO's chair! My sister snapped the photo and emailed it to my dad. Too cute for words!

Sean is 41 weeks old today. He's such a big boy now. He's not interested in puree anymore (I have a ton of jars that I'll return because they're still closed and he's not interted in "mush" anymore).

I finally finished - ON TIME - actually - JUST in the knick of time - my father-in-law's hat & scarf set. (I worked on it all day today). I LOVE the finished results... so very happy with it. Here are some photos - the details will follow at the end of this post.

I even put it all together in a nice fancy box, with a memory card holder that I got him for his camera. The gift was very well received, and I am so happy.

Today was a long day. I left the house bright & early to bring my car into Acura for a regular check-up. My sister met me there and we headed off to do some errands while my car was being serviced. I got my prints done for the October Sock Club Patterns since the kits will be going out in the mail next week and had a few returns to do. We went to see the 1pm Starz & Stroller movie, which was Heartbreak Kid this week. We met up with Jenn & Jakob and pretty much the entire playgroup from Jenn's house last Thursday. Heartbreak Kid was not a movied I'd pay full price for, but definitely funny. A lot of sex & nudity again this week - definitely not PG13! I had a free pass so I'm glad it was free! Though, it was indeed funny! The movie for next week isn't listed on the site yet, so I'll check back tomorrow. After the movie I did another return and then picked up my car. I stopped by the bank and then headed back into the city. In the city I got my passport picture taken (since my sister did my hair nicely for me this morning - straightened it) and I am VERY happy with my passport picture since I wasn't allowed wearing my glasses nor was I allowed to smile. I am happy that this image that was taken will be my passport for the next 5 years. I am waiting until after Rhinebeck to submit it though, so that I have a passport to cross the border with next weekend. I went to the post office (in the same place where I got my passport picture taken) and then waited around for Angela to arrive as we were hanging out at my place tonight.

I received my package in the mail today from Noricum - our swap for leftover sock yarn. I cannot wait to get my deadline projects finished so that I can continue on Sean's blankie! Very excited about that! I am also VERY impressed that she wound every cake by hand! (I used my ball winder to do hers!)

She also sent me along these goodies - some homemade magnets, some chocolate, and a keychain bear.

Also - my fave two added extras are this mini crochet hook (needed one for my knitting kit) and this little pouch to house my grafting needle(s)! Noricum made the little pouch by hand, and I'm inquiring to see if she'll sell some in my shop! Thank you for the awesome swap (she should be getting my parcel in the next day or so).

There has been knitting today on the hat. It's coming along nicely. I am going to have to KNIT KNIT KNIT all day tomorrow I think to get it done. Once I'm done the hat, I'll see how much time I have left to add onto the scarf before we leave to dinner. I have to also take into consideration weaving in ends, etc.... also. (For timing). I CAN DO IT! I know the hat looks weird above, but below is what it will look like - folded over, is how you're supposed to wear it! Anyhow, I won't be leaving my couch tomorrow... I have to KNIT KNIT KNIT!



I worked on the hat today during the movie in the theater, and as well, while watching Mean Girls with Angela! I think it was my 487th time watching that movie - I just love it. When I used to work in a video store, that's all I used to watch! (And Grease, and Elf, and Breakfast Club, and Death Becomes Her amongst other classics that I used to watch while working!)

Sean tried fish last might for dinner and absolutely loved it! I had made tilapia marinated in honey garlic sauce. He just loved it. I gave him leftovers for dinner tonight again and it was a big hit! I hope he doesnt't ever stop this! He'll eat anything! Phew!

I also totally forgot that Sean started his swim classes on Tuesday, so we missed the first one. I will have to make sure we don't forget next week! I really have no idea how I forgot??

A while ago my swift broke. I finally got some time (yeah, what's time? I don't know anymore!) to pull out my wood glue, and clamp and fix it. I think I did a good job with the surgery, my swift will recover just fine. Right now she's in the ICU, but will definitely make a full recovery. No doubt about it.

This afternoon Jenn & I went to a cafe just off the island of Montreal to meet up with two other mommy knitters. I had lunch there, and even shared some desert with the girls. (Above, the gorgeous looking plate of gelato before it was dug into)!

On the couch Jenn, Jakob & myself knitting. Sean was a good boy today and chilled out in his carrier for the entire time I was there. Everyone was impressed. The trick? Keep feeding him strawberries and banana and Cheerios. He likes those. He was very giggly and in such a good mood, it was such a pleasure. And he actually allowed me to get a lot of knitting done!

And on the couch across from us (on the very comfy couches in Cafe Igloo), you have Tara and Maxime (who happens to be 3 days older than Jakob!) and the very pregnant blogless Kate. Kate's working on her very first sock above, and Maxime didn't really allow Tara to knit today, maybe just a few short rows she got done. Both ladies are mommies to two children - well Kate will be mommy to two next month! We had such a good time today, that we're planning another knitting date shortly after Rhinebeck! (Tara is going as well!)

Sean was such a cutie today with his cute faces and smiles! I love spending everyday getting to know him as his personality emerges.

Here is the almost finished Irish Hiking Scarf for my father-in-law. (Couldn't sleep last night so I was up until 4 am watching Poker after Dark as well as some Dog the Bounty Hunter Marathon episodes and knitting on this project!) Today I was waiting for my sneaky mother-in-law to measure my father-in-law's current scarf. His current scarf happens to be 7 inches wide by 80 inches long. EIGHTY INCHES? For real??? The new one I've just made him, is right now almost 60 inches long. I wasn't planning on making it any longer than that.... but now I'm wondering if I should? And my scarf is 5 inches across since the cables and the ribing pull it in. Grrr.. I'm going to finish the hat first, and then decide what I want to do with the length of the scarf. Right now he can most definitely wrap it around his neck once... but will 20 extra inches make it wrap around twice?

I am using the Irish Hiking Hat pattern by Nik Knits. Her files are currently not working off her website - not sure why - but I messaged her on Ravelry about it. Anyhow, I have until Thursday and I think it will all fall into place for this gift!

Today is the Canadian Thankgiving. Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate! Today was a nice lazy day around our house. It was nice to sleep in, and watch TV on the couch, we caught up on some World Series of Poker 2007 (we're watching the Main Event).

This afternoon blogless Janet came over to fondle some yarn (and purchase some too!), she comes knitting with me on the Wednesday that I go knitting. It was nice to have her over, and she fell in love with my cats (want one Janet?). (Can you see I'm a dog person?)

Sean was acting all cute this evening when we went to his uncle's for dinner. Here are some photos of my cutie!

To Lynn - who posted a comment about the information on Sean's Blankie. I have no idea who you are - there is no information (blog or email) attached to your name, so if you send me an email here, I will tell you what you need to know to make a blankie of your own.

This evening I did some work and finally put Sean to sleep. All else is going to have to wait until tomorrow, I'm tired. Tomorrow we have a date with two knitters (and their kids) who live off the island of Montreal, so Jenn & I with our kiddies are going to meet them at a cafe for a snack and some knitting. I can't wait to meet Tara and her friend Kate (Blogless).

My grandmother (also Jenn's grandmother) called me up today to ask me if I had a subscription to Interweave Knits. I told her I did, and she mentioned that she is renewing Jenn's subscription and that she was going to renew mine as well, for after it ends. Thank you Bubbie! (Bubbie is Yiddish for Grandmother!) I asked her what the occasion was, and she said there wasn't any. That is super nice of her! I'm almost done my IK subscription, I think there is two more issues - so it'll just renew after that's over!

I did work a few rows on my father-in-law's IHS, and I have the dimensions now for his hat (I asked my mother-in-law to measure his last year's hat - which is one his mother made him with a matching scarf, which he wants to put away). Three more days to go. I CAN DO IT!

I am looking for 1 x 100g skein or 2 x 50g skeins of pure black sock yarn (non-acrylic). I want to use it for the edges of Sean's blankie. Anyone have that they want to de-stash? I need for approx. 56 grams (that's why I need either a 100g ball or 2 x 50g skeins, one just won't be enough). I was thinking maybe Regia #2066. I used to have some, but I think I sent it in a swap last year. Anyhow, I have Briggs & Little in black in my shop, but I wanted something superwash, as most of Sean's blankie is superwash. I do have Louet Gems, but I'm thinking fingering weight is a little too thin for his blanket. The Louet gems seems a little bit thiner than most of the stuff I've been using. Anyhow, I'm either looking to buy or trade if you have...! Let me know!

Today we had our Family Golf Day. Last year I didn't go because I was about 5 months pregnant and since it was pouring rain and I'm prone to bronchitis in such weather conditions like that, I didn't go. Here are pictures from today:

I had some "waiting" around time during the day.

I haven't golfed since before Sean was born. Or even a thought. September 2005 was the last time, after I'd just gotten my own set of clubs. It was great to use them again! I hope to get more golfing next summer. I had one really fantastic drive, one really fanstic iron shot off the fairway and a few fanstic putts... I really must get to the driving range! There were 12 of us who golfed, so we were 3 teams. It was best ball, so we had to use 3 drives from each person, during the 18 holes. I did not bad! Very impressed with myself. It was a fun day to be on a team with Jamie and his step-brother and his step-nephew!

I'm beat from being in the sun for 6 hours today, more tomorrow! Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadians!

This morning I slept in, and that felt great. This afternoon I got to knit a little bit while we hung out and watched some TV. I caught up on some shows I missed this week, and even took a small nap (after sleeping in - I know - what's wrong with me?!)

This evening we had Jamie's step-uncle's 70th birthday party. It was a lot of fun. I made plans with my mother-in-law for my father-in-law's birthday, which is actually Thursday, so we're going to go out for dinner. So now I officially have until Thursday night to finish his hat & scarf combo. (PHEW!) Look - I'm wearing purple! (Sean looks soooo serious because he just woke up from sleeping in the car. I love the handsome outfit he was wearing tonight!)

I even won a round of Bingo today over at Woven~N~Spun's blog. I played last round as well and didn't even get this close! I had no idea how to pick the words, but managed to! And picked the winning words this time! Bingo is a lot of fun. She's having another round next month - so stay tuned!

Tomorrow we have the family golf tournament (annual thing). Last year it was pissing rain and they still golfed, but I was about 5 months pregnant and wasn't interested in golfing in the rain. I am prone to bronchitis (knock on wood) and didn't want to get sick while pregnant, but ended up with bronchitis a month later while in Europe - but that's a whole other story. After golfing we're all going back to my step-sister-in-law's house for a yummy dinner. I'm very excited to golf tomorrow, I'm on a team with Jamie, our step-brother (my step-brother-in-law) and his 8 year old son William. He's a genius kid, and he probably golfs better than me!

Sean chilled out this afternoon in his play pen after my mom had to leave to head back home. She came to visit him this afternoon so that I could get some work done. He had fun with his grandmother and then was a good boy for me. I got a lot of work done today.

Today I did a photoshoot and now all the Briggs & Little (the 113 lbs of yarn I'd received in stock) is up in the shop.

I finally updated my Knitting Book Library on my sidebar. I had been putting that off for a while now, but finally sat down to do that. Slowly checking things off my to do list! (And that was one of the things on the list!)

Also on my list of things to do - is to Destash my Crochet Book library. I don't crochet, and I never really got the hang of it, and purchased a bunch of books in the hopes of getting it. I don't really enjoy crocheting, and would rather spend the time knitting! So, I have a bunch of books that I wish to destash for cash or possible swap. NO knitting got done today. That's not good, but anyhow. So it's still the same exact progress since yesterday. Oops. I have all day tomorrow to knit knit knit - nothing else is on tap. Especially since the Briggs is now loaded on the website, I'm feeling more relaxed. I had been trying to get that done for a while now, but it was a big job and Sean can't just "sit there" anymore now that he's mobile and more into toys than he was when he was a month or two old.

This evening I worked worked worked, but Jamie's dad and step-mom came over for supper and then they stayed to play poker with Jamie and some other guys that came over. It was nice to have people over, since they helped take turns watching Sean so that I could do the Briggs uploading.... slowly but surely! And the stitch markers too, as I mentioned above.

40 Weeks

Sean is 40 weeks old today. FULL TERM! (Which he never made it to in my belly!) I snuck into Jenn's bathroom during our playdate today, and used Jenn's mirror to do our self-portrait. (That's what I do at other people's houses - sneak off and use their bathroom mirrors!)

There were twin babies who came to the playdate today, who are 3 days older than Sean. Finally - some kids his own age for him to play with! He had a really good time playing with them.

The playgroup was a lot of fun. There were some girls there that I'd met before, and some that I've known via other people, but had never met them. Sean (and the twin boy & girl) were the oldest there, and all the other babies (including some twin boys) all are not mobile yet. All other mommies were able to leave their on their backs to go get snacks yet I had to take Sean with me whenever I wanted to pee, eat or drink, because otherwise he may have sat on another baby's face or something.... we don't want that now do we.....! I think the dynamic of this playgroup will be better for Sean once all the other babies are crawling.

Yep, sat in NASTY traffic. So, what does a knitter do in traffic? KNIT! Of course!!

And guess what else I did? CABLES! Yep - Cables in traffic. It's possible! A little trickier but do-able! I guess once I've mastered cables in traffic, anything's possible!


So... here is my current progress on Jamie's dad Irish Hiking Scarf. 32 inches (28 repeats). I have 28 inches left to go, which means I've got about 26 repeats to do! Can I do it??? But then there's still the matching hat to do!

I was in love with the Socks that Rock colorway Rhodonite until I googled it for socks and saw the way it knits up here. I absolutely love it in my Chevron Scarf (which is still on the needles as I have other deadlines), but I don't think I love it anymore for socks. Not a fan of the way it knits up anymore.


After I'm done with Sophia, I'm debating on casting on Marlo (Above) or Snow White (Below). I own both patterns but love them both soooo much I can't decide! Once I decide which one I'll cast on next (after a few FO's are produced from my WIPS) I'll pick out yarn for them, of course, from my stash.

My blogaversary is on October 21st, 2007. It'll mark 2 years of blogging with Blogger. Last year, when I had a stalker, and moved to Wordpress for a bit, I lost all my comments. It started fresh last year about this time just after my honeymoon when I moved back to Blogger. Before Blogger I used to have an Open Diary - I think they still exist - but the website (I just checked it) doesn't look like the one I used to do. This morning I had an apointment across town at 10 am and then did some returns in the are. I met my parents & Jenn (with Jakob) for lunch and then headed to the movies with Jenn and the kids. The movie for Starz & Strollers this week was Feast of Love. "A meditation on love and its various incarnations, set within a community of friends in Oregon, and is described as an exploration of the magical, mysterious and sometimes painful incarnations of love." - A story for anyone with an appetite for love. I cried. I really enjoyed the movie. I definitely recommend it.

After the movie I picked up a few things I needed from Walmart and then headed home to do a few things before going knitting tonight at the NDG Knitting Meetup. It was a lovely crowd tonight, and although I unfortunately didn't get much knitting done tonight (2 repeats only), I got to see friends and that's enough for me. If I make the deadline Saturday, great, if not, my FIL will get his gifts (that he doesn't know about) when it's done! Hopefully by the end of next week when we do Friday night poker.

Get this - I called Sean's doctor's office to book his flu shot. It's only available in November. That's fine, and that's not the problem. Turns out his doctor is on Maternity leave as of the end of this month (when I went to his 6 month appointment she didn't mention she was pregnant nor did she look pregnant) (apparently the secretary on the phone says she's very pregnant). Anyhow, so I asked how long she's on maternity leave for, they don't know. I ask who is replacing her, as Sean has his 12 month checkup in December. No one. No one is replacing her? WTF?? Now what??

Jamie's Irish Hiking Scarf was 61 inches long. I will do my Father-in-Law's approximetely 60 inches let's say. That means I have to do 5 repeats per day by Oct 11th his actual birthday. If I want to surprise him with it Saturday night at the party we have for Jamie's step-uncle's 70th birthday (which we'll also be celebrating Jamie's dad's birthday - I think), I need to do 13 repeats per day. Or If I want to surprise him with it Sunday after the family golf tournament (yey, I'm finally getting to use my clubs this year) I need to do 10 repeats per day. WISH ME LUCK! Oh - yeah, and I also need to do the matching hat.

Sean HATES his nose being cleaned or even touched. You try to go anywhere near there with a kleenex, wash cloth, nasal aspirator, he cries. And not a light cry. A face turning red type of cry. Does anyone else have problems like this with their child? I'm going to bring it up to his doctor the next time we're there (flu shot - probably this month, I need to call tomorrow). Curious in the meantime, what to do - he doesn't know how to blow his own nose yet, so I need to clean it!

Ran errands this afternoon. First I went to Home Depot to do a return that was about to expire (oops!) and picked up some supplies I needed for a mini photo session I need to do in the next few days. After Home Depot came Walmart had a return to do and a few items to pick up and apparently I bought the wrong cat litter, so I have to go back and do another return tomorrow. (They're his cats, not mine - can you tell I'm a dog person?) After Walmart we went to check something at Sears and I didn't find what I needed but I got a new diaper bag instead. (It was on clearance, and I was eyeing it a long time ago). The current diaper bag is great, but for a newborn, etc. I simply do not need as many pockets anymore, and it's super thick. It's getting to be too heavy. So I got a new one. Very excited to try it out. After Sears I was going to do a return at Toys R Us but it was getting late, so I headed home in fear of traffic. I did stop by the strip mall near my house. I needed to pick up a few postcards and I stopped by the post office (though the items I had to mail were accidently at home - I'll go back tomorrow), and since I had a few minutes to kill and wanted to just stop "running around" for a minute I went to say hello to the girls at the post office. They LOVE Sean. They yell at me when I go there and I leave him at home with Jamie or my sister or whatever. They were happy to see him today. We curiously put him on their scale, I was curious to see how much he weighed. With clothes on (not heavy ones mind you), he rang up to 9.987 kilograms. That's 22 lbs and about 2 ounces. I wonder how much his actual clothes & diaper weigh, but I'm sure it's not one full pound. Which mean my big boy is over 21 lbs. (Which is actually average for his age!) But I'll have to wait for his flu shot to get him weighed and for his doc to tell me what percentage he falls in.

Jamie had quite an experience today. He left his desk job to go over to the franchise (we) run. (Still in the same company where his desk job is). Anyhow, he was getting off the highway and on the off ramp some guy was up his butt. The guy went on the grass and cut Jamie off. Jamie of course had to flip him the finger. (Which we all have done before, admit it!) Anyhow, the guy cuts Jamie off, and then slams on his breaks, and one guy (passenger) gets out of the truck and puts his hand through Jamie's OPEN window (he doesn't have electric windows in his old car - more about that in a minute) and puts his hands as if to strangle Jamie and pushing him up against his seat. Road Rage! I don't think I'll ever be doing that again (flipping someone the finger!) - Jamie thank god is okay. No damage to the car either. He has red marks all over his neck. Jamie managed to get the lisence plate off the truck that the guy got out of and called the police. The police took pictures of his neck, and filed a report. The unfortunate thing is that the truck was registered to a company. Anyone in that company could have been driving the truck and being a passenger in it. So the information was passed onto a detective and with Jamie's description of the guy, hopefully they'll catch him and arrest him for assault. So now we just wait and see. I hope they catch him! And I hope also that teaches Jamie a lesson to not flip anyone the finger.... who knows if the next time the guy will be carrying a weapon or something. Can't take that chance.

Tonight when Jamie got home from work, it was just as I was getting in from my errands and we left right away to the Audi dealership. Jamie got (finally!) his new car! I love it. I can't wait to test drive it. It's a 2004 (it was the end of someone's lease) but it's in superb condition and it's totally loaded (leather seats, sun roof, the works!) It's metalic blue with beige leather interior. I haven't yet gone for a spin in it, but I'm super excited to! Jamie had been driving a 10 year old Jetta, and totally deserved a new car.

The other day I took out a purse I hadn't used in a while, and found stuff in that purse. I think I am going to do a spring cleaning and go through all my purses to see what I can find. There wasn't any money in there (dang it!) but I found three pairs of earrings that I'd been looking for, and a few other things. I don't think I've used it since before Sean was born, because his 3D Ultrasound DVD was in the purse. (Didn't realize I'd "lost" that too). I wonder what else I'll find.

There has been progress tonight on my father-in-law's Irish Hiking Scarf. Phew! His birthday is October 11th - I better get cracking. The hat that goes with this, won't take me long at all, that's for sure.... but the scarf, I've got a lot more repeats to do. A lot more. I have faith, I can do it! I'm putting down Sean's blankie project until his birthday gift is complete.

Today my sister watched Sean so I could get some stuff done. I love him to bits but he doesnt let me get any work done.

Tonight I went to post-natal aqua and our regular teacher wasn't there. I wasn't really impressed with the girl who replaced her, she didnt really do such a good job. I need to find out if there is aqua next week since it's the Canadian Thanksgiving, but our teacher said she still might hold the class. (I dont really celebrate Turkey Day). I am pooped from aqua class though.


Tonight I worked on the IHS (Above) while watching Prison Break (not sure I like Season 3, the first two seasons were better) and then Heroes.


I got my Cable Luxe Maxi pattern in the mail today, and I think I was over charged for shipping. First off, They charged me almost 5$ for shipping. It only cost them 2.25$ to ship and only because they shoved a HUGE ASS catalogue in with my 2 page pattern. My two page pattern, should have cost less to ship. Tomorrow, Lion Brand is getting a customer service email. I'll let you know what they have to say. Grrr!!! I wish it had been a PDF pattern too... then I wouldn't have had to pay shipping period.
