04.06.10

This morning, the football quarterback was there as his daughter takes swimming lessons at the same time as Mack does. I had brought my Grey Cup 2008 hat with me, that I bought at the game, with a sharpie marker, but afterwards in the family locker room, I chickened out in asking him for his autograph. I get to see him for the next 9 Tuesday mornings, I’m sure I’ll gather the courage to ask him soon! He’s a rather big guy (football player!) and kind of nice on the eyes… Sorry Saku Koivu (since you no longer play for the Habs), I think I have a new celebrity crush. You should have heard my friend Natalia and I in our swim class this morning (with our sons) giggling like little school girls.

I get home from swimming and before heading out to work the mail comes. I go to get it, and noticed there’s a letter from the Sherriff's Office. I rushed to open it, not sure what I was going to find. I’ve been summoned for Jury Duty, for the first time ever. I don’t see a real reason why I shouldn’t or can’t do it, so I’m going to reply to it, saying that I’m only bilingual in English (because I do speak French, but I would not be able to understand a fully French trial, my French is no where near that good), and see what happens. I now need to call the court house and see if knitting’s allowed. (I don’t see why not?) Have you ever been called for Jury Duty? Was it a one day thing? Were you sequestered for a few days? Did you bring knitting along? (Or crochet?) Was it a good experience? I’m kind of nervous. What if the person on trial is found Guilty and comes after the Jury Members? (Or do I watch too much Law & Order and CSI?) All these things to think about.

Today I finished the socks for my swap pal. I’m kind of nervous, because I’m not sure if they’ll fit her. Hoping they do! This is now the 2nd time that I’ve knit socks for a swap pal. I better now get on Jamie’s socks that I promised him for Xmas 2009, before he gets mad that I snuck a pair of socks for someone else in between!

SPECS:
Pattern: Vintage Rose Socks

Size: Women’s Medium. Hopefully they’ll fit her!

Opinion: I loved the Flower pattern part over the Bird pattern part, as the Bird pattern part I found a little fiddly to do, but maybe it’s because I haven’t worked with cables in a little while. I am also not a fan of k3tog. I hope my pal likes them.

Hi there! I did have jury duty last summer and I was able to bring in bamboo knitting needles without any problems. I just left them in my project bag and sent it through the scanner. No problems and I spent the whole day knitting in the jury room. Good times!

Nice socks.

Jury Duty? Really? How does that happen? When do you have to go? I thought that only happened in the movies LOL. Can you say no?

I can see it now, you make headlines...girl knits during Jury Duty LOL Let me know what the court says!

wow. jury duty! well, i'm not sure how it works in canada vs. how it is here in the states..but definitely go with bamboo needles. in the states, they have you sit in a big room (with other potential jurors) and then you have to wait until they call your number or something. So maybe bring a book or two..some letters and some snacks? the socks look great! I'm jealous your yarn knitted up just like in the pattern!

Jury duty is yuck, but kinda necessary. Here you aren't allowed knitting or crochet. There is some thought that you can't pay enough attention if you are doing something else. I've never actually served on a jury. I've been called eight times, but they never want me because I always take a hard stand against driving after having any sort of drink and they've all been drunk driving cases. Attorneys don't like you to have that sort of bias. Good for me though.

Cute socks!

Just because you've been summoned doesn't mean you'll actually be selected to be on a jury. The chances are really quite slim. I was summoned once and was never even called in, it was a big fat waste of time. Bring your squares.
