january five

The other day I ran some errands checking out a store about 40 minutes away from my house. I know - I'm crazy. I'd been hearing about this store for a while (a "swanky" little french store that sells stuff on liquidation) and decided to head out to Valleyfield. My grandmother lived out there in that town, and I wanted to go check it out. I think she lived there while my uncle was little - but I think they moved shortly after my mother was born. Those details I'm not sure of. Anyhow - while there, I'd seen something in their online flyer, that I wanted to check out. However, when I got there - I totally forgot to even look for this item. Go figure, that's typical of me. So - I decided that today, I was going to go check out another one of their locations, in St-Francois (yes - right by you in Terrebonne Alison!). First off - mapquest did NOT tell me there was a detour and the exit was closed. WTF is a girl to do - when she's NEVER been out there before? So I drove thinking I was hopefully going in the right direction. At some point - I turned into a parking lot - and turned back around - and went back to where I got off the exit and tried the directions again, pretending that I was going in the same direction as the directions but from an exit before the exit I was supposed to get off at - so I tried following the direction of the highway - to get myself ot where the directions were supposed to lead me off - had mapquest been right. I hope I didn't lose you there with my "thinking"... Anyhow - I eventually turned into someone's lot - where they were shoveling snow - and with my pretty french I asked them where the street I was looking for was. Many roads later - I found it. And I went shopping. Here's what I went for:

These tote bags. Aren't they cute? I saw them in the online flyer, and wanted them. I'm trying to go "greener".... and HAD to have them. They were on sale until Sunday (tomorrow) so I had to run to get one! (Or okay, a few.... there was 5 different designs, and I got 4 of them), including the three above, "Stop Using Plastic Bags, Hugs a Tree & I HEART Green!" Now I can definitely stop using plastic bags.... that's the goal! Even if Montreal is one of the ONLY cities that recycles plastic bags in the recycling box we put outside on recycling day - I still want to avoid using plastic bags as much as possible. I'm starting to be more conscious about it - starting today!

I also saw these pants in the flyer - but unfortunately they didn't have them. I totally wanted a pair of the 100% Organic pants! Oh well... They had some cute tshirts also with "Save the Planet" and other stuff too - but tshirts are very hard for me to shop for while pregnant.

This afternoon on my way home - I realized that the parking lot I turned around in to go back tot he highway to "start over".... was one block away from the store.... had only I kept going! ARGH!! I was indeed in the right direction! Oops! (The problem also is that there were no street signs on the streets in that area.... seriously! A lot of them were un-marked!)

I did some groceries on my way home for dinner tonight - as we had dinner guests tonight. Jamie's best friend and his girlfriend came over for dinner. We had fondu - and it was really good. Sean even enjoyed it! I didn't get any knitting done today - but I'm hoping for a relaxing day tomorrow with some knitting! That's the plan! Not sure what else is going on yet.

Korea has no street signs either...anywhere. It's really odd because you can't just say "Take me to Main Street"...or whatever. They give their directions by landmarks or stores...and if you don't speak Korean (or read it for that matter) then it's hard to tell someone where a certain place is, or where you want to go...really hard to get used to not having street signs...or street names...

I've been trying to use green bags more and more. It's crazy how hard it is to get into the habit, though!
