january twenty-one: 19 weeks pregnant

We have an improvement. Sean slept from 9:15 (or so) pm last night, until 5 am this morning. That's effort on his part. He stirred for a bit at 5 ish, and cried for a diaper change (needed) and a bottle. He gobbled it down. At 5 am, I brought him into our bed. I didn't mind him being in our bed from 5-7:30 am this morning, for the last little stretch of the night. That didn't bug me. It's the entire night in our bed that bothers me. So last night was definitely an improvement, and I am really happy. We'll see how tonight goes.

We got up and got our day started. I decided that I love Tim Horton's Multi-grain bagels with cream cheese, and will be eating one of those for breakfast on my way to his class in the mornings (Mon & Wed). Now I'm debating before swimming tomorrow too. I don't usually eat breakfast, but their bagels are SUPER delicious. Yeah, even pregnant, I'm not a breakfast eater. It's bad. Never really enjoyed breakfast.

Class this morning was a lot of fun. The time sure passes by really quickly, I'm sad when we have to leave. Sean has such a good time in the class. Here's some photos from today.

We painted trees for Tu B'Shevat (since the classes we are taking are at a Jewish Campus). Tu b'shevat is actually today: Jewish Year 5768: sunset January 21, 2008 - nightfall January 22, 2008. Tu B'shevat apparently is not mentioned in the Torah. I just learned that today looking up what exactly Tu B'Shevat is. I know it had something to do with fruit & trees, but I didn't really know anything more than that. There are few customs or observances related to this holiday. One custom is to eat a new fruit on this day. Some people plant trees on this day. Tu B'Shevat is the Jewish Arbor Day, the 15th day of Shevat on the Jewish Calendar. It's the "New Year" for the trees. I just learned all this today, too, so I thought I would share it with you. Sean tasted the paint, of course.

Here is Sean's painting. It was done via sponge painting. All the teacher did was add 2 brown lines to make the tree. I think Sean did a great job. He did it all himself. I didn't help one stroke. All I did was rotate the paper so he didn't get the same spot over and over again! I am impressed that he got it on the paper. For 12 months old, this kid is an artist! Just like his mommy. Oh, I'm so proud.

After painting we played with some toys. Sean likes to discover new toys all around the class.

I was very excited to discover this on one of the "vintage" toys in the classroom. How cool?!!

We also discovered Sean's name on the wall. All the kids in the class have their name on the wall. This is so neat. It wasn't up last week. I had to take a picture.

At the end of the class we sing a song that involved blowing bubbles. Sean was having a bottle while we sang this son and I caught a photo of a bubble that landed on his finger/bottle. I thought it was a great shot!

On the way home I noticed this. Does anyone see what is wrong in this image?? I found it funny.

We hung out at home for a little bit before our afternoon "re-take" of Sean's 12 month check-up. Sean is soo funny the way he plops himself onto the couch.

So, this afternoon we had Sean's "re-take" 12 month check-up. I have to say, that the doctor that took over Sean's file (while his other doctor is on maternity leave), I absolutely LOVE her. I'm considering changing over to her, for good. She is just the sweetest ever. She is also a mother, to an 11 month baby. A lot of the things I'm going through, she can relate to. (Which is good). I find her very warm and caring (while his previous doctor was a little more reserved, and quiet, though I liked her). His new doc, let's call her Dr. F, is just fabulous. She spent over half an hour with us. And she did everything thoroughly. I am very impressed. She marked everything into Sean's record book except his shots - we were talking about things and she must have forgotten. Anyhow, I'm going back in April for his 15 month check up (I already have the appointment booked) so I'm not worried. I'll get them marked in then. From the 4 shots Sean should have gotten at 12 months, 1 he received from the doctor at the clinic that we had the bad experience with, and he got 2 more today. Dr. F wants to wait until the 15 month check-up for his Chicken Pox vaccine, because she feels that the shot "sticks" better at 15 months than at 12 months. I'm trusting her on this. I'm just glad he got the other missing shots. She was actually shocked when I told her about my experience at the clinic. She reassured me that I am now in good hands - and I believe her. I felt like I was in good hands, and that my concerns and needs were taken care of, while I was there. Unlike the doc at the clinic who walked out of the room while I was asking about Sean's weight loss.

Sean has gained back the weight he lost and then some. He must have pigged out this week or something. That or the doctor that saw him at the clinic, his scale may have been broken? Sean now is:

Weight: 22 lbs 15 oz (50th Percentile)
Height: 76 cm (75th percentile approx.) (He's still my tall boy)!

He was a real trooper during his 2 shots and enjoyed playing with Dr. F's medical tools. She let him, so that's okay. (There was a sign up at the previous "bad experience" clinic that said that if your child played with the doctor's medical tools, you could be subject to a fine)....

What else... I will be weaning Sean off formula, and giving him only 3.25% milk at no more than 30 ounces a day. I will be finishing off the formula that I have at home (because it expires before baby number two will be 6-18 months) and so as soon as I'm done that formula, I'll be giving him only 3.25% milk. I will be increasing his intake of milk now, and lowering his formula, but he still prefers the formula right now, so it'll have to be a gradually slow (probably) process.

We talked about his waking up during the middle of the night, and his separation anxiety, all questions that she asked me, not me bringing it up. I'm telling you - she went over EVERYTHING. She even asked questions about my poisonous items (cleaning products, etc..) to
make sure they're locked up safe.

This Dr. F - she's good. I'm so happy to have met her and to have her as Sean's new doctor. So far, I'm very happy. I'll be asking her in April if she'll take on baby number 2 as well, and if the April appointment goes well, I'm thinking about switching to her for good, if she'll have us, I really really really like her personality/attitude as a doctor more than the other doctor we transferred from. But we'll see how it goes. In any case, I'll need a doctor for the new baby until the old doctor comes back, if we go back to her.

See, things work out in the end... don't they always?

There was MAJOR traffic on the way home, that's the one thing about going into the city. I made sure his next appointment was earlier on in the day, so we don't have to sit in traffic again. I got some rows done on a mitered square for Sean's blankie. He's starting to take interest in the blankie, so I'm working on it fully right now, to try to get it done for him! Getting there!

Here are squares numbers 37 (burgundy square bottom left), square number 38 (rainbow square, top right) and square number 39 (the purple, blue, black square top left). Square 40 has been cast on. It's looking good people! Looking good!

Today I'm 19 weeks pregnant. Next week I'm "Half Baked"... how exciting! Tomorrow is the "big" Ultra Sound.

Think you can guess the sex of baby number 2? Vote in the poll below. Also - leave your comment in this post only, and I'll draw a name from the people who guessed the correct guess for a fun prize. (Not sure what it is yet, but it'll be fun - I promise!)Contest closes tomorrow night when I sit down to blog the sex! (Providing we can determine that during the Ultra Sound)... which better be the case! I am one impatient mommy!

Girl :-)

I voted girl, because you have a little boy so it will be well balanced and not for any other reason. Plus women with little boys are always pleasantly surprised when they end up with a little girl and get to start thinking about girl things!

Class looks like fun. I am so happy that you finally found a good doctor to take Sean to. Hopefully you can just stay with her.

I'm so glad the new doc is fabulous! That's a huge relief. Finding a pediatrician that you click with is SO hard!

And Tim Hortons bagels are so good, I definitely agree there! Just so good! Man do I miss Tim Hortons!

I voted- I think it's a girl! Let's see what the verdict is!

I'm feeling boy... sorry! I know you are hoping for a girl. I can't wait to find out tomorrow. You are having the fastest pregnancy!

Robyn, I'm thinking boy since the baby looks low. Some say heart rate can tell you (& it was right for me 3 times). Higher than 150 is a girl, lower is a boy. Girls are busier I'm thinking! My girl was 151, usually. Just something fun to ponder, who knows if it's scientific. I'll cross my fingers it's a girl, though. Either way, healthy! =] Bren

Your belly looks shaped a lot like mine and it's apparently a girl for me, so I'm gonna go girl. Hoping the best for ya. :-)

I say boy. Only because I have two boys.

Girl, pink all the way, you seem to usually find a way to get what you want so why should this be any different? Plus I need you to try out both sexes so I can ask for advice when it is my turn.

I am voting for a girl because of the way your tummy is looking. It is a lot like when I was preggie with my daughter....nice and rounded. Either way...I wish for a healthy happy baby.
