july eighteen :: 81 weeks old

Today Sean is 81 weeks old.

This morning I had time to do some work for Robyn's Nest since Sean was still at my parents house. I slept in a bit, and then got some work done. My mom brought Sean back around lunch, and we had leftover spaghetti. Spaghetti is my absolute fave meal. I could probably eat spaghetti (with homemade meat sauce) every meal of the day. Really! Even for breakfast!

After lunch I saw that Sean was getting tired and he was up since 7:30 am. I gave him a bottle of milk (still refuses to have his milk in a sippy cup, we're trying to wean him off the bottle), and I decided to try to put him in his crib (awake) with his Baby Einstein Lullaby Cd playing. He did cry/scream for about 10 minutes and then passed out. He napped for 3 hours! I had a nice and peaceful afternoon, so I continued to do work. It was really icky outside, so we couldn't really go out to the park or anything today. I'm kinda glad for the quiet afternoon though. Especially after some sleepless nights lately. (More about that shortly).

Mack didn't want to be put down this afternoon so I pulled out my AzureWrap and wore him instead. He loves to be cuddled. I was able to get stuff done while he slept in the wrap. I love baby wearing. I wish I'd worn Sean more than I did. I'll be sure to be wearing Mack a lot though, it'll give me my hands free!

Tonight Jamie & I ordered in Chinese Food and watched the first five episodes of the new season of Weeds. We'd forgotten it had started, so we are all caught up now.

At one point while we were watching some TV and Sean was playing with his toys, we noticed he was getting tired. So we gave him his bottle of milk, and then put him in his crib, awake but tired. He kvetched for about 2 minutes, and then passed out. I think this "putting him in his crib awake" thing might just work.

I think Mack's going through a growth spurt. In the middle of the night nonetheless. All he wants to do all night is nurse.... he just doesn't want to stop nursing. I'm wondering if I'm producing enough milk because he's nursing and passing out. Either he's working too hard and nothing is coming out after the first few minutes, or if he's going through a growth spurt and I'm just not producing enough to satisfy him. I did give him one bottle in the middle of the night last night, which I'd pumped yesterday upon getting home from knitting. At first he had no idea what to do with the bottle. But he took to it. He drank the bottle, and then I still had to nurse him a little bit as he wasn't satisfied with what he drank.

When do they start sleeping through the night? These sleepless nights are very tiresome! I forgot about them. (But totally worth it).

A year ago August 4th, I announced my shop, Robyn's Nest. Stay Tuned for an Anniversary Sale! I'm totally planning something wicked. I can't believe it's been a year already!

I think this week is the week for the 5000th comment! Stay tuned to see who will it be?

Happy Birthday Sherrie!

Breastfeeding support here :)
The constant feeding is the whole point of a growth spurt, it is the baby's way of stimulating your breasts to produce the amount of milk he needs as he grows and requires more of you - don't worry that you're not producing enough, you are, you are, you are, and he'll stop guzzling all the time in a day or two at the latest, and you'll miraculously be producing more as a result. Growth spurts are hard, but they're engineered to work :) - drop me a line if you need more props...
Good job on the putting Sean to sleep awake thing - sounds like it's going well.
and congrats on the upcoming anniversary - a whole year!

If you remember to wear Mack every day for 30-60 minutes minimum, your back muscles will strengthen as he gains weight so you'll be able to wear him even when he's Sean's age!

First of all, congrats on the continued work with sleep training for Sean. I am sure it hasn't been easy, but before you know it, he will loving going to bed.

RE: constant BFing, this is perfectly normal! For the first month or so, Chloe nursed almost every other hour, but allowing her to do so was so key because it develops your supply. Do NOT worry about how much you make and don't pump and measure. Just gauge on whether Mack is gaining weight and having wet diapers. If you have those two things, rest easy.

I agree spaghetti with homemade sauce is pretty damn good!

I like the Azure wrap - we don't have one.... hmmmmmm. Liv and I have been using the Hotsling quite a bit - she loves being cuddled too.

I love spaghetti too, I'm a pasta junkie! Kate's right about the breasfeeding. By nursing more, Mack's stimulating you to produce not only more milk, but richer milk as well (after all, a gal's b00bs can only hold so much). As for the sleeping through the night thing, I don't think it's got anything to do with breasteeding or not. It's tricky to figure out when they're genuinely feeding as opposed to when they're just using you as a pacifier though.

And yay Sean! Putting kids down when awake is DEFINITELY the way to go. Keep it up! :)

My youngest won't take his milk in a sippy cup either. I need to get him off the bottle cause he's almost two but he refuses the milk in sippy cup.
