Qmusictodaynursebathroom

Today we had music in the morning and then we headed to the mall. Quentin was a good boy during lunch (he slept - letting me eat) and then I fed the boys in the "nursing room" in the food court. They never had this when I had Sean or Mackenzie. It's awesome in there. Couches, changing tables, I even think I might have seen a microwave! After I fed Quentin I did some shopping, some returns and I finally found some sweat pants in size 5 for Sean (I can't believe how hard it's been to find one that are not tapered at the bottom - Old Navy actually has some on sale this week).

Any of my readers do graphic work that will work for yarn? If that's you... and this interests you - please email me at knitpurlmama at gmail dot com. I'm looking for someone who does please!

Does anyone also have leftover yarn bits, pieces that are at least 3 feet long, I'd say? Even novelty yarn, all colors, etc..!? If you have small bits that you don't know what to do with - I need some for a project. I have a bit in my stash, but it's mainly fingering yarn and worsted weight in regular colors. I'm looking for funky stuff... with sequins too or fun fur even! Sparkly, shiny... I am looking for scraps! Please help if you can!

Tonight Quentin got spoiled in gifts (with more clothes he really doesn't need) from some ex-coworkers of Jamie whom came over for dinner tonight. We haven't seen them since before Quentin was born and they wanted to meet the little guy. One of them brought their new girlfriend, and she was super nice.

Working on a my current pattern design, and I think I'll have something else to show you tomorrow though... I might need a small break from the knitting, so look out for a quick crochet project (I'm starting to get a bit more comfortable with crochet & crochet patterns).

3.17.11 :: 143 weeks old/ 33 months old

143wksM

Mack is 143 weeks old today and also 33 months old.
Getting him to sit still is becoming quite challenging.

Sean's sick today again (runny nose + a cough), and yesterday, while I was in the middle of feeding Quentin, and Mack needed to get dressed to go to daycare. I'm arguing with Mack to start getting ready and Sean turns to me and says "It's hard having three boys, eh mommy?" The stuff that comes out of this kid’s mouth kills me in laughter. Then tonight, we're at the dinner table (I was solo parenting tonight) and Mack turns to me and says "You're going to try to get me to eat this, right?" I swear, I almost chocked on my food it was priceless. I had made a pot roast in the slow cooker. Turns out, Mack convinced me to make him Kraft Dinner, Sean convinced me to make him Chef Boyardee (yep, the crap my kids actually like, right?) and I had pot roast. It was absolutely delicious (pot roast, not the other crap).

IrishBoys

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
(Mack wore a few different shades of green to daycare, I had a green shirt (I don't own green pants, which is fine by me, Quentin wore a green sleeper today and Sean refused to wear green).

irishQ

This morning I took Quentin to the CLSC to get weighed in, and he's finally hit the 10 lbs (and 1.5 oz) mark. The last 2 weeks he gained 25 grams per day, and this past week he gained 22 grams per day. I wonder if he's finally slowing down and the weight gain won't be as fast anymore.

QSbed

My boys hanging out in bed today.

I was a bit tired last night (as I am most evenings) and I totally forgot to announce the winner of the copy of Arranged by Catherine McKenzie. I printed out all my recent comments since starting this contest and put them into a hat. The winner is.....

lunchatbubs
Sean somehow managed to convince me he had to stay home today. He does have a bit of a "runny nose".... but he totally could have gone to daycare today. Instead, he joined Quentin and I on some errands, and hung out with us for the day. He also convinced me to take him to my parents house for lunch as they had salami and I didn't and he wanted salami badly for lunch.

overallz

Quentin was super cute in his new overalls. They were a gift from some family. Normally I hate overalls (not a fan), but in 0-3 month size... they're just too cute. He was totally rockin' the overalls today.

QfacesQsmilez

And Mr. King-of-faces was up to his face making again today.

seand300Qd300

These last two pictures were taken on my brand new digital camera. We were in a store with not so great lighting and I just couldn't believe the quality of the images that were taken on my new camera. I ended up buying a professional DSLR - as my Nikon D60 is a total lower end camera to shoot professionally with (actually all those in that line are starter amateur cameras (D60, D70, D80, D90)). I've been meaning to upgrade for a while now, but didn't know which professional camera to get. After doing a lot of research over the last little while and pricing out what they go for brand new, second hand, and figuring out their value, I decided to take a leap today and I decided on the Nikon D300. I got a fantastic price on it, (last one in store too) and it's just the body. I didn't need any lenses, as I have 3 lenses already. I did pick up a flash for my both my Nikons (the SB-900) and a few accessories that I needed. I got a fantastic deal on all these items, and it was too hard to pass up. And I'm not selling my D60, I'm going to use it as my 2nd body/backup camera. What I like about the D300 is that I can insert 2 memory cards into my camera, one will take the picture in RAW and the other in JPEG format, at the same time. I still have a lot of reading to do, as my new body is not at all the same as my D60, but with a little reading of the instruction manual, I'm sure I'll be a pro at working the new camera in no time. Oh, I can't wait to play around with my new toys. Ah... the joys of new toys. Now... to go find where I put my camera bag that will fit all my equipment... I'm just giddy with excitement! Tell me... what do you shoot with? What's your camera of choice? Are you shooting just for fun? Professionally? Are you an amateur trying to get somewhere?

3.15.11 :: 15 weeks & 219 weeks old

15wksQ

Quentin is 15 weeks old today.

219wksS
Sean is 219 weeks old today.

Items found in Mack's bed this morning: 1 plastic kid spoon, 1 spongebob baseball glove, 1 Fisher Price Digital Camera, a handful of books, 6 stuffed animals, 1 poker chip, 8 silly bandz and 1 play hammer. Sometimes I wonder why he needs to sleep with some of these items, and what goes on in there after lights out.

I've been doing a little bit of crochet since I can't show you my current in progress design (sock pattern I'm designing for that sock club I got asked to do). I did finish not one, but 2 crochet hats...

babyhatz
SPECS
:

Pattern: Crochet PomPom Baby Hat by Nikki Kirkwood (My Ravelry Link Hat 1 & Hat 2)
For: Photography Props
Yarn: Patons SWS (Soy Wool Stripes)
Hook: 10.0 mm (N/P)
Size
: Newborn and 3-6 months size
Timeline: March 14, 2011 (about an hour each)
Modifications: For the newborn size, I chained the 28 as it called for, but I added the extra round that the 3-6 month size calls for in the pattern as I found without it, it was preemie size. Yarn was held double stranded on both hats.
Notes: The first time I tried this, I had the wrong yarn (handspun) and the wrong hook size. I went down one hook size and found more suitable yarn. It was more pleasant to work with when I finally had it better. Very cute pattern. Super easy to make. I want to make boy colored ones too. Now I just need to find a baby girl to photograph modeling these hats.

heygoodlooking

Someone thinks he's hanging out with another baby! He was smiling at the mirror for a good while this morning. Too bad he doesn't realize it's himself he is looking at.

playgroupmar14

Today we had playgroup in the afternoon. I went a bit late as I was at home waiting for a phone call that I wanted to take (with only good things to come!). Luckily we were only a little bit late and Quentin got to hang out with his new buddies for a bit. Aren't they all delicious?? One of Quentin's friends thought he was comfy to sit on. Today was our 4th week of playgroup and so far, everyone is getting along great and things are going smoothly. There will even be a Daddy joining us for a bit as the mom is going back to work for a few weeks (as her job can't be replaced with anyone else - she's a sign language interpreter).

Drive by Monday:
- I'm growing out my hair.
- I'm 17.5 lbs down since January 1st. Kind of feel "stuck" this week, but working at it, and I'm not giving up. I know I can do it, and reach my goal. I'm not giving in to temptation.
- I haven't had any chocolate since 2010.
- I haven't had any cake, cookies, or junk food since 2010.
- I'm definitely addicted to diet coke.
- I'm totally enjoying the book I'm currently reading.
- Upset I lost 1 hour of sleep last night. And for what? We can't even go bike riding at 5pm after I pick up the kids from daycare, so what's the point? It's not warm enough yet. It's too early for daylight savings time.
- I managed to make one of these, with better yarn this time and a different brand crochet hook. Details to come tomorrow. I think I'm going to make it in both sizes that are available in the pattern. It's so cute.
- Someone is coming back tomorrow to pick up one or two of our couches! So happy we're getting rid of some of them and the rest that we're not using anymore will go into the garbage. It's too bad that there is a mountain of snow on our front yard, or I'd put the couches out with signs that say "FOR FREE - PLEASE TAKE ME" on them... maybe if the snow melts before next garbage day next week I can do that? I guess we'll have to see if the warmer weather & the rain they're calling for this week help get rid of the snow.
- I'm so fed up with winter, I've already started wearing my sneakers outside. Bye, bye boots. See you next year. I'm also *this* close to pulling out my Capri pants... just sayin'.

starthat

Tried to start this Crochet Pompom Baby Hat.
I had issues with not twisting the chain when joining.
I must have ripped it out maybe 4 or 5 times.

kippahhat

I got somewhere with it, eventually. However, on Quentin's head, (yes, I modeled a pink hat on my baby boy)... it looks like a yarmulke on him. Quentin's got the size of a newborn head now as his current weight is around what most babies weigh at birth. He's still a little pisher under 10 lbs. Anyhow, there must be something off with what I'm doing or maybe it's the (handspun) yarn. It's leftovers from this project. Maybe it's the hook size too. I'm going to sleep on it, and start again tomorrow with another hook and different yarn.

Besides the little bit of crochet, I've been working away on the design I'm doing for that sock club I got asked to do. However, I am looking for 2 test knitters who can start immediately. You must have Tosh Sock yarn already in stash to use for it (as the pattern is done in Tosh Sock). I am looking 2 different knitters to knit these sizes:

Size Small: 52 sts cast on
Size Large: 72 sts cast on

You must be able to knit a sock from the cuff down, know lace, heel gussets and how to graft the toe shut.

I will need pictures of your finished item and feedback on any errors in the pattern. You will not be able to post the pictures on Ravelry or anywhere else until the pattern is released to the club members, once that is done, I will give you the okay to do so.

For your time, I’m willing to give you some of my already published sock designs.

Please PM me if you are interested, or have any further questions.

newcouch

This morning while the boys were at skating our new couch got delivered.

newbookcase

While we were re-organizing the playroom, I brought the little bookshelf down to my office as I was getting tired of the one that I had. My books were also getting a little heavy for the shelves on the old bookcase.

smilesQ

It's amazing the difference (bathtub for size!) of Quentin now... from one of his first home baths!

tummytime

We opened up a new gift today, a Lamaze Spin & Explore Tummy Time mat. It was a hit.

bigboycupmilk

Sean is a big boy now. No more sippy cups. We were still giving him a sippy cup in the morning and at night with his morning & before bed milk. As of a few days now, he's refused the sippy cup. My little boy is growing up.

musichere
Today we had music at our house. The house we usually go to, the little boy who lives there was sick. One girl offered her house, but the music guy didn't want to drive too far so I offered up our house.

Qlibby

Quentin had a little admirer today at music.
She kept reaching over and trying to touch him, it was cute.

tea

Then I headed to the mall to run a few errands. One of my stops at the mall was to David's Tea. I picked up 2 teas, one that I've been having at my friend's house that I really liked called Mother's Helper and the other one that they had as a tester today at David's Tea called Exotica. I also picked up this awesome loose tea pincer. I think I might pick up another one the next time I'm at the mall. Hi, I'm Robyn, and I love tea.

A friend of mine kicked me in the behind to get started on Newborn/Baby photography. Everyone always loves the photos I take of the kids, especially the ones where they are dressed up. So I'm going to do it! I already have a ton of costumes and props, and a ton more props on the way that have been ordered. I can't wait. I started a Facebook page that you can follow my work. 3.10.11 :: 142 weeks old

142wksM
Mack is 142 weeks old today.
(Mack is 100% back to his old self now, from his little bump yesterday.
Even his bruising is fading).

handgripQ

Today after taking Quentin to weigh in at the local clinic, (he's now 9 lbs 12 oz (4.42 kg or 4420 grams), keeping up with a 25g per day weight gain in the past 2 weeks), I managed to get Quentin down for an afternoon nap in his own crib. It's the first time ever that he's napped during the day in his crib. (Until now he's only slept in it at night). Before you start shooting me nasty comments that Quentin's on his stomach - I'm aware. (And both Sean & Mackenzie were stomach sleepers and they are fine). It was suggested to me unofficially by the doctors at the hospital that once I feel comfortable to leave him sleep on his stomach, that it was the best position for a baby with Laryngomalacia. As of recently, when I noticed Quentin had good neck control, I switched him to sleep on his stomach. And that's when he started to sleep through the night. I am so glad I successfully got him to nap in his crib this afternoon (instead of in the baby bucket (if out) or in the swing or bounce/vibrate chair).

thisismyblanketmonkeyQ

Quentin absolutely love his new blanket. He wanted to show Maureen that he has been using it already. It keeps his warm while we're out & about. Sean placed the monkey arms around Quentin while we were doing story time this evening in the boys' room, so I thought it was too cute to not take a picture.

new50mmlenssockclub

I got my new toy in the mail today, a 50mm Nikon AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8D Lens. I can't wait to start playing around with it. I actually picked it up because I ordered 2 toys to go with it, that I am still waiting for in the mail. My order for those 2 toys was shipped, but it hasn't gotten here yet. I will definitely show you when they arrive. Photography toys are so much fun. I'm a gadget gal... what can I say? These are my early birthday present to myself... (birthday is in June and it's a big birthday to boot). I did take this picture of the yarn on the right hand side with my new lens (was indeed playing a little with it tonight). The yarn, color has been taken away so you can't see what it is, has been wound up for my newest design. I was asked to design a pattern for the Nestucca Bay Yarns' Spring Lambs Yarn Club. The club looks like a lot of fun, and you should go sign up! You will be getting Madelinetosh yarn with at least one of the kits (not sure if all are knit up in Madelinetosh yarn), but I am very excited to be designing the sock pattern for the club.

Tonight before getting the kids from their classrooms, I sat in on the Parents Committee meeting at the daycare. There was a few things that I wanted to hear that were on the agenda, and I am curious to possibly join the Parents Executive for the next calendar school year. I am not sure how that all works, but I know that one or two of the moms on the Parents Executive have a child graduating in May and going off to Kindergarten in August (not sure why "graduation" is in May if they are still there for June-July-and most of August...)? Sean still has one more school year until he starts Kindergarten (August 2012) and Mack has two more school years until he's in Kindergarten, and Quentin will either get a spot and I'll have 3 kids there for 3-3.5 months or so (end of May-June-July-August of 2012) or Quentin will take Sean's spot when he leaves to Kindergarten, and then that'll be another 4 years of being at that daycare... I'll have spent 8 years attending that daycare then... September 2008 Sean started there, and Quentin will start Kindergarten in 2016. 2008-2016. Maybe it's a good thing that I get on the Parents Executive. I've always seen myself as a PTA mom.

Qswimb4qinpool

This morning Quentin had his first swimming lesson. At first he wasn't sure what was going on. We got into the pool 5 minutes after the class started and left a few minutes early as well. That was enough for today.

This afternoon I went with a few mom friends to go see Adjustment Bureau. The movie was quite lame if you ask me. It was actually quite predictable, and as one of my friends said "even Emily Blunt couldn't save the movie".

SMswimclass

After the movie, I picked up the boys and we headed to the pool (same pool I was at this morning) for their swimming lessons. 5pm lessons are a very bad idea, let me tell you. It was a zoo in there. I am hoping it's not as crazy next week as it was today. They had a photo shoot going for the synchro girls (ALL of them). (The photographer happened to be a guy I dated briefly back in 1999 ish - we're still friendly, but I didn't get a chance to say hello).

Mack freaked out (screaming) from the car to the changing room, SCREAMED while I fought to change him in his bathing suit. Then he screamed all the way to the pool. Was okay though once in the water with his teacher, but his teacher had to carry him in and pull him off my leg. He was fine then until we hit the changing rooms after. Once Mack was dressed he fell and bumped his head on the bench quite bad. We had to go get a lifeguard. We were taken into the First Aid room, and he was given ice. He is coherent and all smiley. He cried for a few minutes after it actually happened, and I think I was more freaked out than he was. At first he had an egg shaped welt on his forehead. And I seriously have lost faith in other people. I was in a closed changing room with all 3 kids when it happened. Quentin was freaking out (shrieking) for a bottle. Sean was nagging me to put his socks on for him. Mack decided he wasn't happy in the spot I left him after he was changed and that's when he banged his head. I swear, I need 8 arms. I opened the door to the changing room, thankfully everyone was basically dressed. I yelled to the closest person, who was a syncho chick to go get me a lifeguard. She runs away, and comes back and says (in the most annoying 13 year old girl trying to act dumb voice) "I am sorry, I couldn't find a lifeguard". Huh? What? How on earth can you NOT find a lifeguard... next to a pool? Seriously? I would have just gone into the pool area and screamed "I NEED A LIFEGUARD NOW" if someone else needed help. Other moms in the changing room at this point were just staring at me. It's like "DO SOMETHING... Don't just stand there... go get help!" Useless!!! I seriously have lost faith in other people. At this point, a lifeguard was actually walking by and saw the commotion and came in to help. She picked up Mackenzie, I shoved all our stuff into both my diaper bag and our pool bag, threw on my boots, grabbed all our bags, jackets, the baby bucket with Quentin in it who was freaking out still, had Sean grab our mittens/hats/etc... and followed the lifeguard to the First Aid Room. They checked him out. He's doing well. They told me what to look out for in case it's a concussion, but that has been ruled out. Poor guy. He really is a klutz my poor Mackenzie. And he really needs to start being patient and listen to me. Gotta love the Terrible Two's. Hopefully he'll outgrow that as he turns 3 this June.

Oh, what a day.

mackbooboo
The swelling has gone down on his forehead, but he still has a bruise on his forehead (that you can see in the photo above). After this picture was taken we took a few more, and he was sticking his tongue out in every one of them. That's the Mackenzie I know. He'll be fine.

(And to those who said that with 3 boys I will see plenty of the waiting room at the ER because of injuries... knock on wood... I have yet to do that!)

maureengift

I got a wonderful gift in the mail today from Maureen. She knit Quentin a Pine Forest Baby Blanket, which I think is incredibly sweet of her! Thank you so much Maureen. Quentin loves it already. Thank you again for making it for him. It's my absolutely fave color of Dream in Color... I almost want to use it for myself (it works well as a lap blanket!)

3.8.11 :: 14 weeks & 218 weeks

14wksQ218wksS

Quentin is 14 weeks old & Sean is 218 weeks old today.

loadlaundrydetergent

Today I tried to tackle some of our never ending laundry. (Seriously, it's really never ending!) I was just telling Jamie the other night that it never ends, and that I was getting somewhere with it, and then when we went to go put the kids to bed... what do you know? A full basket in their room. Laundry breeds. I swear. Today I finally took care of a toy load, that I have been meaning to wash for Quentin. I also finally picked up a tsp just for the laundry detergent. The Sears guy that came last week told me that I have been using way too much laundry detergent per load for a front loader. He said forget those cups that come with the detergent, and for a small load use 1 tsp and for a larger load use 2 tsp of detergent. Seriously? That's all? Yep.. you wouldn't believe how much suds there still was in the machine with just that little amount of soap. He said that the soap build up from that much soap could ruin the inside of my machine (where it drains) causing my machine to drain slower, not work as efficiently and break down quicker. I don't want that happening... so I shall listen to the Sears repair guy.

bigbluesbottlewarmer

I really don't know why it has taken me 3 kids to get a bottle warmer? Sean & Mack both liked their formula warm and then their cow's milk (until maybe last year I was still heating Mack's milk). It seems Quentin likes his formula warmed too. I thought it was about time I invested in a bottle warmer and I am so glad I did. We have a lot of First Years products, and I can say that I am very pleased with them.

loaves

Today I made 4 loaves of banana bread (recipe here). 2 whole wheat for our house (one with chocolate chip and one without) and 2 in regular flour. I made those 2 for 2 of my neighbors. One that her son is friends with Quentin, she was saying the other day how she loves baked goods but that her son doesn't let her bake, and the other for my other neighbor who just had surgery for breast cancer and had some expansions done and was in a lot of pain (and home with a sick child too). She was saying on Facebook how she was having the most rotten day ever, so I thought a little banana bread would cheer her up. Plus, it's always good to be "neighborly", right?

snugliQQasleepSnugli

So after the loaves were baked, fresh from the oven, I set on foot and walked over with Quentin to my 2 neighbors. Quentin had something to give one of his friends, anyhow, and one loaf was for them, and the other for my neighbor who just had her expansions (as explained above). By the time we got home, Quentin was fast asleep. His first time exposed to fresh air (usually outside in his bucket I close his bundle-me to cocoon him in from the harsh winter cold), but alas the weather is getting a little warmer. (Doesn't Quentin look ridiculous in that large snow suit? I don't know what I was thinking getting 3-6 month size)

Today is my dad's birthday... he doesn't read my blog, and I've already wished him a great day several different ways (phone, facebook, etc..!) so I hope he had a good day!

newbathingsuit

I found one bathing suit for Quentin. It's 3 month size and ridiculously large. The waist is too wide and the top is loose on him too - but for now, it's better than the other one (which is 3-6 month size) that comes down to his ankles. This one is Gagou Tagou, and the smallest the store had in stock. I'm really looking for a NB, 0-3 or even 3 month one piece. (Above it's 2 pieces, and I am worried about the shirt riding up). I really want one that would cover him like this one. Most of the websites I've actually found small suits on, won't ship to Canada.

Today a few of us ventured out for playgroup. We had a bit of a snowstorm so most canceled. I had to leave the house anyhow to pick up the kids from daycare at the end of the day, so I figured I'd head out to my friend's house anyhow. Quentin sported the Baby Surprise Jacket I had knit for Mack when he was born, as well as the Sweet Baby Cap. They both fit him perfectly right now. I was going to have him wear again today, but of course he had to spit up all over the front of it just as we were leaving the house today, right?

Today at playgroup, I was talking to one of the moms that I just recently met and become friends with, who happens to live up the street from me (standing in my driveway I can see the back of her house) and we discovered that we BOTH did the same exact photography degree and we both did the same exact graphic design degree at the exact same schools. She did both of hers earlier than I did - she is a few years older than me (4 years I think), and we did them in the reverse order. She did Graphic Design first, and then Photography while I did my Photography degree first, then my Graphic Design degree. She has no job to go back to once she's off maternity leave as the department she was working in up until 2 months before she had her son, was closed, so we were brainstorming possibly going into business together - who knows... I have so many ideas of things I want to do... but for now, I want to enjoy the rest of the year on maternity leave with Quentin.

It was really nice out today after I got the kids from daycare, and they wanted to play outside in the snow for a bit. I haven't ventured out much in the snow this winter being home with a newborn.

Today I called Munchkin yesterday to find out where I could buy more of their Single Serve Formula Dispensers in the 2 pack and they told me they are discontinued. The ones that I have from Mackenzie who used them are starting to crack. If anyone has some that they are no longer using and can send me, please let me know. Even the ones we had we bought in the USA, had them shipped to a friends house who shipped them to me, as the online shop wouldn’t ship to Canada. It's frustrating when you want to replace a product you love & use, and can't find it anymore.

I have a proposition to ask any of my readers who crochet. I'd like a few cute crochet hats for props. Examples on Ravelry are this one or this one or even this one or anything cute of the likes. Non Ravelry links of examples are this one, this one or this one, and anything similar. I’m looking to start my own newborn photography business once I am back at work after maternity leave and I’m not the greatest crocheter in the world. (I’m more of a knitter!) I am willing to give anyone who also knits a copy of my Sock Collection, or we could work out another deal? Yarn? Something else? Swap services of some kind?
