10 Inches

In 2013 I cut of 13” to donate to make a wig and yesterday, I cut off another 10” to donate. It was getting too long and I was fed up with my hair. It is a fresh new look for Spring. I am very happy with the cut. I am sending it off to the Pantene Program. I actually shocked my hair dresser when I told him what I wanted to do. No one has ever come in to his salon to do that before. I like shocking people sometimes! Especially for a good cause.

13 inches

Yesterday I cut off 13” of my hair. It was long overdue. I grew my hair out for my sister’s wedding which was in August, as you can cut longer hair but you cannot make hair longer as I didn’t know until last minute what I wanted to do with my hair for the wedding. I grew it out for about 2+ years or so, if I remember correctly. It got ridiculously long and it was feeling heavy and it was always getting in the way. So yesterday, the kids and I all got a haircut. I decided since I had enough hair, to donate it to the Pantene program that uses hair to make wigs for cancer patients. My hair is packaged up and ready to be mailed, I just need to get to the post office. I feel so much better with shorter hair and as a working mom of 3, it’s so much more manageable now!

Handsome Little Man

Quentin was in need of a haircut. His hair was growing over his eyes & ears. I was starting to think he'd start walking into walls from being blind from his hair.

It was quite long!

I brought along my booster seat, so we could strap him down, and he did quite well. He didn't flinch or cry once. We were shocked on how much of an angel he was.

And my handsome little man... I swear, he looks 3 not 1. He really needed this haircut, but boy did it age him! And I love the little spikes. Our hairdresser, rocked it with some gel. So delicious!

You Know You Need A Haircut When…

You know you need a hair cut when... your kids either look like Kramer from Seinfeld or start growing a mullet! I took the kids over winter break for much needed haircuts. It was Quentin's first official haircut (besides the time we "fixed" his hair because of the odd way it grew in after they shaved half his head at birth - due to an IV drip). He was soooo good, I was shocked. First boy of mine to not cry/or fuss at his first haircut. He let the lady cut without a single issue. He really is the best baby ever. That time of the year again

It's that's time of the year again. The boys (every 3 months like clock work) require a haircut. So we made an appointment (on Wednesday, June 15th) with one of my sister's friends, and got the boys their hair cut and the boys got to spend the day at home with me. The time the appointment was, there wasn't enough time after to get them to daycare before nap time.

Usually I just go to my sister's friend (who is cutting Sean's hair) but she only had time to do one of them, so they had someone else cut Mack's hair. She did a good job though, thankfully.

It was also time for our bi-annual dentist check-up. (June 20th, 2011). Sean, Mackenzie and myself all had appointments. The last time we went to the dentist, was 6 days before Quentin arrived.

I absolutely LOVE the dental hygienist. She's also a knitter, so we "talk shop" while I'm in the chair. I am actually supposed to look for a cardigan pattern idea for her, I should get on that. Sean went first and Mack watched so that he could see what was going on. The dental hygienist was able to get Mack to have his teeth counted but no cleaning today. Mack chickened out. Next time. He still is quite young, so we'll try again next time.

Quentin even got to sit in the dentist chair. This way when it's time for him to go to the dentist, I can show him a picture of when he was 6 months old and sitting in the chair, with smiles. That there is really nothing to it. After their check-up the boys got a prize (toy) from the dentist.

And I got my teeth cleaned too. They did x-rays for me this time, as last time I was 35 weeks pregnant and the time before I wasn't sure if I was pregnant or not. No cavities (ever) either! (Yes, I still got to my pediatric dentist. I actually asked, I am not the eldest patient there, so I don't feel bad!) As long as I don't need dental work and as long as I don't have any issues with my teeth and my dentist is still willing to see me, there is nothing wrong with me going to see him. He might have Kermit The Frog attached to his light above his chair, but I'm a-ok with that. And I don't mind not picking out a toy from the toy bin. I leave that up to my kids, whom I hope have inherited my teeth genes - with no cavities.

This morning I took the boys for a much needed (overdue) haircut.

Our only challenge was that I had to hold Mackenzie during his haircut.
He wouldn't sit still and so he had to sit on my lap.

I even got our hair dresser to "thin out" the back of Quentin's head so that it doesn't look so bad on the side where they shaved for his IV when he was born. It is so much better now, and hopefully it will all start to come in evenly soon. I saved a little piece of his hair and will put it in his "first curl box".

Sean and Mack want to thank Sandra and her son for sending them some Silly Bandz that they no longer were using. The boys are currently obsessed with silly bands.

Sean is getting really good at writing his name.

He drew a hockey rink (puck too (see circle by the goalie net her drew which looks like a backwards squared letter C) and did a beautiful job signing his name on his Uncle's birthday card.

I am so proud of Sean's recent accomplishments. He actually woke up dry this morning from sleeping without a pull-up last night! (He did have a slight accident of getting his pj pants wet while going to the bathroom this morning (poor judgment with aim) - but he made it to morning without wetting himself or the bed. He wants to try again tonight no pull-up so we're going to give it a go! Maybe he's ready to be 100% completely potty trained. I'm game for that. I did buy a package of pull-ups today, just in case.

The boys desperately needed a haircut. They must have gone through a growth spurt, because usually every 3 months I get their hair cut, and it's usually this length after 3 months. For some reason, this time, after 2 months, they needed one.



Sean's hair actually was the worst between the 2 of them. Every time he pulled his hat off (gotta love winter weather!) his head looked like this above. Standing up on all ends.


We went out for lunch after the haircuts to celebrate my brother's birthday. Sean totally enjoyed his chocolate & strawberry covered waffle. I don't blame him.

The hubster needed some new shoes, so after lunch we headed to the mall. I probably did more walking than I should have (I'm sore & regretting it now). I got the boys feet measured and discovered that Sean is now a size 10-10.5 toddler shoe (he was in a size 9 until now) & Mack is now a size 8 (from 7). Sean picked out some new shoes, and Mack was being stubborn so I picked out a pair for him, and hopefully he'll wear them.

We came home to do a huge clean-up in the basement. We took all toys that wasn't sport related out of the basement, because they really don't play with them downstairs. Toys from now on will stay in the playroom only. We've since even removed most toys out of the den. Only books in there now and to watch tv or play Wii. I am starting to love the toys being confined to one room rather than having the toys all over the house.

I've been doing newborn laundry as I'm trying to get my hospital bag together. I've washed receiving blankets, and newborn size hooded towels, itty bitty wash cloths, sleepers, onesies, scratch mittens, swaddle blankets, burp pads, all tiny items, ranging from preemie size, newborn and some smaller 0-3 month stuff. I have no idea what to expect for baby 3's size, so I'd rather have stuff washed so that I can be prepared for when he's born.

I also started going over the pamphlet the hospital gave me to find out about preparing myself prior to going in, and for my hospital stay. They require me to have someone with me (husband obviously will be my choice), for the first 24 hours after delivery. After Mackenzie was born, I recall Jamie staying for a bit until I was settled, then went home to shower & get a few hours of sleep before coming back. Since it wasn't my first baby, I was totally okay with that. This was at another hospital though. Seems like this new hospital is more strict with certain things. For example, visiting hours are 1 hour only in the evenings, 2 people at a time only. (That's okay, I am totally okay with this - I'd rather people come to my house after I am home to visit at my convenience - when I am up for visitors). Having a Csection is major surgery. They have 7 layers of stomach to cut through, and then sew back up. After my Csection with Mackenzie, I felt like I was run over by an 18 wheeler, but I put on a smiley face and allowed whomever wanted to visit me to come, as the hospital I was at had a bit more slack visiting hours. Now that I know what I went through last time, I'm putting my foot down this time. Plus, only 2 people are allowed at a time, for 1 hour each day. Not much can happen there, now can it?? Which is good, because I hate feeling claustrophobic and overwhelmed.

I find it funny that you're there for 2 days after a regular birth, and 4 days after a Csection, yet their packing list tells you to pack diapers for 12 days. This made me laugh.

Starting to panic a little bit about getting things done before he's born. I know it always works out in the end.... but a little part of me is worried about not being ready.

09.16.10 :: 117 weeks old

Mack is 117 weeks old today.

Yesterday I decided I had enough with my hair. I had just blow dried it straight. My last time blow drying it straight this long. It was indeed time for a change. A much needed change. My hair was starting to feel heavy. I was throwing it into a bun or pony tail a lot because I really just don't have the time to do stuff with it. In the mornings, forget about it - trying to get the 2 boys out the door is a challenge in itself. The evenings? Forget about it - I'm wiped these days. And I'm sure my time will be even less when Baby 3 is born. Time? What's time?

So I went to go see my sister's friend Kristin (whom everyone I know goes to as well), and showed her a few ways my hair has been short in the past, showed her a cute image I found online of a recent trendy short hair style, and then told her I trusted her to do what she thought would look best on me and my shape face, etc.

I really love how it came out. It needs some time to grow on me though. I totally thought Jamie would be surprised (I didn't tell him I was going for a haircut), but he saw it and actually said he liked it, and wasn't surprised as it wasn't the first time I've chopped my hair off while pregnant.

I feel freer. My hair was getting thick and it really was weighing me down. Now for the real test, to see if I can do my hair just as nicely as the hairdresser did, when I style it next after my next shower. Or even blow dry it just as nicely as she did. I'm sure my hair will actually blow dry a lot quicker these days.

I received another free credit for an audio book. What do you suggest I get? I'm stuck for ideas. I do still have a bunch of books to read (hardcover or paperback) but I can't do that while driving to work, so I've been really into listening to audio books on the 30 minute drive to work and the 30 minute drive home from work. Any good suggestions?

I have kept every issue of VK since its revival in 1982. In this issue editor Trisha Malcolm says that print will never die and that 95% of readers keep every issue. So, when I went to look at the pattern for my favorite piece - Irina Shabayeva’s coat - it wasn’t there. It was on the website! I spend all day at the computer. Knitting is my chance to get away from that. I don’t want 1/2 my pattern in the magazine and 1/2 online. I refuse to offset VK’s print costs by paying to print out color charts AND proving to Kinko’s that I am not printing copyrighted material as I had to do once. I don’t want to return to a pattern two years from now to find that it is no longer on the website. There is no mention that patterns are incomplete in the issue until p. 10 where there is a mention than SOME LARGE charts are available online and doesn’t say EXCLUSIVELY on line. I went through the issue and 11 of the 31 patterns are either online or continued online. That is 35%. We are paying for 100% of content and getting 65%. I would rather have all patterns and less editorial (really, icon that she was, how many more times can we read about Elizabeth Zimmerman). I sent a scathing email to VK last night and hope others who feel as I do will too.

That sucks. Makes me not want to buy the magazine anymore, if they're not going to put the whole pattern in their issues. What do you think?

I found a few items I want to get Baby Boy #3. Aren't they so cute? There's a store in Montreal that carries them, somewhere in the city. Park Avenue, Green Avenue.. something like that. Too bad I can't order them online from Amazon.com, they don't ship to Canada.
