Fingering Weight Weaving

This was A LOT of work. It was quite challenging to weave with fingering weight yarn. It took 2.5 balls of 50g Regia sock yarn to warp this project. Then it took another ball and a half to weave this project. I wanted to show that we offer weaving in my shop, and that one can weave with any weight yarn. This woven project is in my current window display at my shop. I used my 20" Ashford Knitter's Loom to weave this project. I warped it on Feb 27th and was done on March 4th. A Woven Rainbow

I warped this project back in October when I finished my first woven scarf (that I did in my Weaving 101 class). However, life got busy and I didn’t have time to finish working on it. Finally, I decided to finish it – as I needed my loom for a work project that I am now working on. I used my 20” Ashford Knitter’s Loom for this project and 3.82 skeins of Berroco Versa, which is a discontinued Berroco yarn made of 50% Cotton 50% Acrylic. It’s a bulky weight yarn. (14.0 sts = 4 inches). I had a lot of fun with the colors in this project. It’s a super long scarf as you can see, and I love it. Some friends of mine think it might look awesome as a table runner. Being made of Acrylic & Cotton that might be a good idea. Otherwise, it’s nice and lightweight even though it’s long. 8” wide by 84” long (not including the fringe). I still haven’t decided what I will do with the fringe. Oh, weaving is fun! (And quick with bulky yarn)

Beka Weaving Loom

I received my Beka RH-10 Beginner's loom this week. I actually ordered this one and it was shipped before I discovered the Spear's Weaving Loom that a lady was selling on Kijiji. The nice thing about this one that I just got, is that it comes with 2 heddles, for both a 4" project and a 10" project. The Spears one I got only has 1 heddle but accommodates wider projects. I am looking forward to using them both.

Ain't she a beauty? She came with a starter project, so I can get the feel of how she works. I will be playing around with her soon. I fear this will take over my precious knitting time!

Spear’s Weaving Loom

Recently, a knitting/crochet friend of mine sent me a text, and asked me if I was sitting down. She knew I was looking for a weaving loom. Even since I knit my Koigu Linen Stitch Scarf, I've been fascinated with weaving. Weaving is so much quicker than knitting up a scarf that looks "woven". She then proceeded to tell me that there was a loom, on Kijiji for sale, for 20$. 20$?! I had just ordered myself a beginners' loom, for triple that price. (Will be getting that one sometime next week, more on that one when it arrives). So we took a field trip, as we called it, and headed out about 30 minutes from our homes, to check out this loom. I couldn't pass up a deal like this. My friend who came with me, has a loom or two herself, but uses them more for beading, than weaving. I think she herself might be intrigued by weaving now too.

The Spear's Weaving Loom even came in an original box, with original manuals and all the pieces. I think I totally scored on this.

The loom came with strings (the pink looks like embroidery floss) already on it, I guess they must have put it together and put that on, just to sell it. The lady told us that she had never used it even. I wonder what this loom would have originally cost, and how old it is, as well. Does anyone have any knowledge of when these were made? Or what they are worth?

I am extremely excited to start using it. I have some reading to do before I do start using it, and probably a couple of youtube videos to watch as well, but I'm so excited to start using the loom.

The nice thing about the Spear's one, is that it allows me to do wider projects than that Beka beginner's loom I picked up. The Beka allows me up to 10" wide, and by the looks of this one, it's about 16-20" wide. Oh, I can wait to play!
