march eight :: 114 weeks old

Sean is 114 weeks old today.

And as usual, he's getting harder and harder to keep still for a photograph!

This afternoon Jamie's mom & her wife came over to visit for a bit. We don't see them often, so I'm glad that they got the opportunity to see the boys. It was a short visit as this evening we headed over to my parents house for my father's birthday dinner. His actual birthday is today, so we had a dinner at my parents house. Happy Birthday dad! For the man who is impossible to shop for (buys what he wants when he wants) we got him a subscription to Popular Science magazine, since he likes that one! Seriously, we're running out of ideas!

Mack has started to take interest in Bosco, my parent's Great Dane. Bosco is really good with babies, and loves Sean, so we are starting to introduce Mack to him. Mack liked Bosco. And Bosco was really good around Mack. It's amazing the size of the dog next to an almost 9 month old baby!

Now for some knitting related content - FINALLY! I introduce to you the February Sock Club pattern that I designed - called Amelah.




The yarn is handpainted by Sweet Paprika, who are locals to me. They're stuff is yummy & deliciously soft. This colorway is called Secret Garden. I just love how it knits up. I want to thank my sister Amy for test knitting this pattern for me!

Cute kid thing of the day: Sean calls Oranges "Ornage".... it's so cute coming out of this mouth. Ahhh... one day he'll get it right, but for now, I smile at it's cuteness!

september seventeen :: 3 months old

Mack is 3 months old today.

How cute is Sean watching his morning cartoons?

This morning I had my first Aqua Strollers Class with Mack. It was the same teacher as the previous 2 sessions that I took it (January - March and March - June). I love her. She's awesome. And she was super excited to see the little one outside in the world that she's seen grow in my belly! Mack was very good during swimming today. The class is from 11-11:45 am and he was all smiles until about 11:38 am. For the last 7 minutes during the last part, I held him in my arms and finished off the class by holding him. I wasn't the only mother holding their child in the class. Next week though, I have to bring a small towel to fold up in front of Mack as he sits up very well in the floating device, but he's a little too small for it, so I will need to put a towel to hold him from flopping forward. Usually the class is for 4 months + but I used my judgment as I am not a petrified mother. Plus he'll be 4 months old in a month!

We had lunch at my mother's. Sean gave Bosco some love.

I received another antique piece of furniture from my parents. This piece actually used to be in my room growing up. It ended up in the hallway in their house when I got custom built white furniture when I was a teenager. Now, it's in my office holding books & yarn. (Oh and some craft supplies in the door part on the bottom). I just love this piece.

Zeus and Jazz wanted to say hello today on the blog. We had an issue with our garage door opener, so it's the front door that's getting used, so Zeus & Jazz came to see us off today for the day and take in the morning air. I don't think they'd ever run away. They're well fed here and they know where they get love and belly rubs.


I am IN LOVE with these mittens. I HAVE to knit myself a pair. The pattern apparently should be available by this weekend. Oh.my.goodness. I have to have it. I need to get my hands on it. I'm drooling over these mittens. Here fishy-fishy-fishy....!

Forgot to mention yesterday that the Baseball Sweater that Mack was wearing is the sweater that I knit for Sean, and that he only got to wear once. Well, guess what? Mack's only going to get to wear it once as well. He barely fits into it. And the weather JUST turned to sweater wearing weather... dang it! Oh well. At least I got pictures of each of them in it! And they both looked handsome in it! Maybe if we ever have a third child, we'll have to make sure it is born in colder months! Sean was, but I only knit it for him when he was around 3 months old. And I believe at 3 months old he was heavier than Mack is now.

This evening I went out with West Island Knits. We may try a new restaurant next time (in 2 weeks - October 2nd), as we weren't 100% happy with the service where we were. Just need to scout out a new location. Tonight it was Amy, Madeleine, Julie, Christine (whom I'd met last year at the Knitting Guild), Ottawa resident Melanie and her Montreal Mom (and myself & Mack too!) It was nice to get out of the house, and chat with everyone and get some knitting done. I realize that I have to only bring mindless projects to knit night, as there is way too much talking to concentrate!

I'm debating between this skull hat and this skull hat to cat on for my nephew for his November birthday. Which hat do you think I should do? I think I'm leaning more for the first one I linked. What do you think?

Tomorrow I've been married 3 years! Hubby is taking me out for dinner. Fuck, I have nothing to wear. Do I have to dress up? Tomorrow on tap is Sean's class, my appointment at the daycare to see the facilities and dinner with Jamie for our anniversary. My parents are watching the boys, and I cannot wait to have a meal with Jamie without the kids. It's been a while. Tomorrow, Jamie's uncle is having surgery, for the same thing that Jamie's mother (real mother, not step-mother) went under the knife in 2005 for. I'll get more into details tomorrow, but please keep your thoughts with us for good results. The jist of it is that he has to have inches of his intestines removed. I'm praying that Jamie will never have to have this surgery, as it runs in the family. (Which is why colonoscopies are done VERY young in the family). I am not sure what time his surgery is at tomorrow, but I'll know tomorrow.

Azure Wraps Rock

Today it took me a long time to get my act together and get to my mom's house. I did manage to stop at Acura and get my car looked at (thank goodness for having a hook-up there, I got my car looked at immediately, and fixed right there on the spot!) For some reason, my automatic car starter never worked. You'd do all the steps to get it working, and it would just choke and choke and never start upon re-starting it. I only need it when I go out - because at home I have a double car garage. But now, with Sean, going out, in the middle of winter (now that we're starting to have normal Montreal winter weather) I'd like to use my car starter. My car starter now works.

Here is a picture of Bosco (in the background) and Piper, my mom's Danes. They are so good together, and with each other! They give each other kisses, it's really cute. I hope my mom's home when Piper goes into heat - or she's going to have puppies!!! (Which would be really cute!)

This is Sean sleeping on my mom's bed, while I was pumping (or rather trying to - I'll get into that in a minute).

On my way to the West Island today, I did stop at the new shop near my house (I missed their grand opening on Monday due to our snow storm). Their website is here. Anyhow, what I wanted to go to them for, is the Azure Wraps. I really wanted one when I saw it at the Mom Show back in November. Anyhow, I got one today, in black, so it matches everything.

I tried it on for the first time at the belated Xmas dinner that my father's company had tonight. It was postponned because my husband was in the hospital with me while I was in labor, and the manager was sick with the flu. (Not just cuz of me in labor - lol). (Or so that's what I think!)


Sean slept on my chest the entire evening during dinner (I managed to eat won ton soup without spilling any on his head since I couldn't lean over the table to eat it!) Sean loved being close to my body in a very womb like position.

The Azure wrap is kinda pricey (55$ CAD plus tax) but honestly, so worth it! I am NOT going to get rid of my Maya Wrap, but keep it for when Sean will be sitting on my hip to be carried. It won't go to waste. (I talked to the Azure Shop owner about the Maya Wrap, since she actually sells them as well!)

Today I thought I was having breastmilk production issues, but I actually think it's my electric pump having a bad day. I will re-read the instruction booklet tomorrow and if need be call the 1-800 number for The First Years. I got home and hand pumped - no problem. I was sooo frustrated, because I thought I wasn't producing enough, as Sean's been eating like a champ. Hand pumping manually - I got enough for 2 full meals. Electrically - not much was coming out. I wonder what I'm doing wrong (after it working beautifully for the last few days??)

I had to resort earlier and give Sean one bottle of formula. I literally thought I wasn't producing enough - Sean didn't spit out the formula. Daddy says that diaper change after that bottle was not so pretty! LOL. And now we know why they say breastfed babies are better! Anyhow, I'm not going to get rid of the formula, I'll definitely keep it for emergency reasons, etc.... like tonight. Sean was hungry, I wasn't going to let him starve, so I gave in and gave him ONE bottle. I'll do it again if I have to. I'm not afraid to anymore. But I really don't want to have to give him formula. His apetite is increasing though.

Another milestone tonight, I got Sean back on the breast! He had one meal being breastfed. I'll still give him breast milk in a bottle in the middle of the night tonight, just so we can all get back to bed quicker, but yeah! I'm very happy about it. I was in the middle of pumping, and Jamie made a joke saying "Let's see for kicks if Sean will latch on..." And he did... and he ate like a champ!

Alright, well now it's my bed time. I'm beyond zonked. Must get some sleep. Still trying to get used to this schedule.

My grandmother is coming over for lunch tomorrow and to spend some time with Sean and I. I have some laundry I'll be able to get done, and maybe even some knitting?!! (Knitting, what's that? LOL. I'm jonesing to even knit ONE stitch!)

It Snowed!

It snowed today, and I didn't take any pics yet. (Tomorrow!) I don't think this snow is going anywhere soon, so I'll get a chance to photograph it tomorrow!

I was playing around with my camera and colors today, and this is one of my fave shots that I took. I love the color arrangments! Color is sooo much fun to play with!

Tonight, I met Piper. She's the beauty in the front, and Bosco, is the beauty in the back. Piper is so tiny compared to Bosco! Ah, they're sooo good together. Piper is a little scared of men, which is funny, because she lived with two men before coming to us.

My parents had a cake for Jamie for his birthday tonight, so more blowing out the candles for him! Cake was sooo delicious (Oreo cake!)

I don't really like this picture of myself. I had just thrown my hair up and uch! Oh well. I feel uch anyhow! Time to have the baby already! LOL.

I wound 2 cakes tonight of sock yarn. One ball of Regia color 5045 (blues) for Jamie's socks and one ball of Trekking XXL Color 161 for myself. (The Trekking was a gift from Lil Rose Thorn for the booty swap!) Jamie requested a pair of socks, and I'd like a pair for myself, so I figured I'll knit them both at the same time (knitting A.D.D.) and this way neither of us can complain that the other socks will be done first! Hee hee - I'm smart - aren't I - for a pregger?

Alright, I'm going to go cast on and watch Desperate Housewives which I taped from this evening. And then more Sopranos it is! (I watched 3 episodes of Season 2 last night, in a row, and then read - I couldn't fall asleep! I was in bed, with the lights out watching TV, not tired, and then I used a flash light (I felt like I was at camp!) to read, to not disturb Jamie!)

Infant Sized Kippah

Today I got up again as Jamie was leaving for work. I got a lot accomplished today, including some laundry and even some chores around the house - as well as organizing my Xmas swapping packages. I'm swapping with Raesha, Cynthia & Lainie for Xmas this year (it'll be nice as it's the only Xmas gifts I'm exchanging this year). Jamie and I decided that we won't be exchanging gifts, the money could be used elsewhere (property taxes will be due in January and then again in March) - ugh. I also organized my Xmas package for my Secret Pal, and a chanukah care package for a friend in Philly. Really happy that is all organized. I can't wait to get that all in the mail!

Today, my cousin Jennifer helped me master starting the kippah. I was having a HUGE problem getting it started, I was chaining my crochet loops, and then using the actual chain loops and trying to crochet into them, no one ever told me that I had to use the center loop to start my increasing and stitches. OY! But now, I've mastered crochet in the round (knitting in the round - hey, NO problemo!) but now I can do all!

Here is the kappah, infant size of course, for Sean's bris. I am going to make Jamie a matching one, so they can wear it together! I don't know how the kippah will stay on Sean's head, so I'm hoping he has a full head of hair! I made the kippah plain and simple, nothing fancy, I just wanted to keep it classy. It's in a very nice blue:

I haven't gone to meet her yet, but Piper has arrived at my parents house. Serge, who is Bosco's co-owner, and a friend of my mother's had a late arrival into Montreal (from Bradford, Ontario). I hope to get out to meet her tomorrow, if I get my to-do list done, then I'll go - if not she's not going anywhere, so it'll be the next day!

Apparently Piper is a real princess. Oy, I can't wait to meet her! I wonder how my mom is handling two great danes. My grandmother on the other hand, is going to shoot my mother - but that's another story all together! I can't wait to speak to my mom tomorrow to find out how she's dealing!

Upon returning home from the Habs game tonight (what a game by the way!) I took a photo of my belly in Habs gear! This is me, 5th day into my 34th week (still got an inny belly button!)

The habs game was insane. We played the Florida Panthers tonight. We went into overtime with a score of 0-0. No goal in overtime. Then came a shootout. Kovalev scores. Panthers score. Koivu scores. Panthers miss! Ryder misses. Panthers miss - and we win the shootout - winning the game 1-0. Whooot!

I did not end up going to the game early tonight to buy my husband the practice habs jersey that he wants. I did not buy my son a habs sleeper. My husband refused to let me buy that. He does not want any presents. He's being really stubborn. Anyhow, I'm going to see how much the practice jersey is at the Habs store near my parents house, or at the sports shop, and if it's crazy expensive, then I'll think twice, but if it's a responsable price, what's a few extra dollars on my visa? (Maybe I should keep reading NOT BUYING IT: My year without shopping!) LOL.

The pain I have in my groin area - I thought it was from sleeping with the body pillow - but I'm thinking that it may be Sean pressing as he's getting ready for birth. He should be dropping any day now, and I have not yet noticed my belly any lower, but maybe I just don't "see" it... LOL.

My Son, So Real, So Cool

This morning I got up early and Jamie dropped me off at the hospital for my Glucose test. It's usually done at 24 weeks pregnant, but I was on my honeymoon at 24 weeks, and I think my doctor forgot about it. I was worried that I would have to sit there for hours, so I brought knitting along with me. However, for this particular test, they skip you ahead, and you don't have to wait your turn. (The wait was only 30 minutes anyhow). But, because you're pregnant, and you have to fast from the night before, they take you first. First I did a blood test, (I hate needles - but it wasn't so bad) and then you have to drink a liquid drink (pure glucose) and it kinda tasted like Orange Crush. That's how I'd describe it. Then you wait an hour, and exactly an hour later, they draw another vile of blood. I got a lot of work done on my version of Fetching. (Picture below). I hope there are NO MORE blood tests that I have to do during the rest of my pregnancy. I hate hospitals, and I hate needles.

My 3D Ultrasound went A LOT better today. I still think it's a lot of money for what you get, but I definitely loved the experience of seeing my baby boy before he's born. I did get a DVD of the sessions, but have not watched them yet, (waiting for Jamie on that, of course). Jamie didn't come with me today, my mother did, since Jamie couldn't leave work this afternoon, as he had a dentist apt this morning to have a tooth pulled, at 9 am, he had a LOT of work to do this afternoon. This one is Jamie's favorite photograph, due to the fact that it looks like Sean is using his LEFT hand (Jamie's a leftie), and it's in the "smoking" position! I think Sean is just "hushing" us to leave him alone to sleep.. lol... what a cutie!

Sean with his eyes opened! Oh - and my son, yeah, he didn't have his feet blocking his face, BUT, he does have a foot fetish still. He had one foot near his face, and he kept sucking on his toes still, and also his fingers! He was resting his head on his foot! Such a clear picture!

I also thought this one was a cute photograph. Just had to post it! (The thing by his face is my placenta... and he kept turning towards it). I am just glad that we got enough good photographs today, to make it worth while.

Stopped by my parents house on my way home, and Bosco was acting all cute, so I took some pictures of him. Gotta love the crossed leg look.

Tonight after my Aqua class I worked on fetching. All I have left to do is the thumb, which I think I'm going to go work on now. I am rather pooped though, Aqua class tonight was a killer! (It's not prenatal, but with the prenatal instructor, so it's fun!) She definitely kicked my ass tonight!

You see the black line in between the turquoise and the green? That's where I need to cut out he black yarn and pick up the stitches and knit the thumb. I've never done this before, so wish me luck!

Every Day is a Long Day These Days

Here is a recent picture of Bosco - my parents dog. He is soo cute. He even gives these cute little hugs. I can't believe HOW SMALL he used to be. I keep noticing HUGE changes when I see him - cuz I don't see him often at all.

Today, I could barely get out of bed. I was just so tired this morning, yet I went to bed at a decent hour. In my morning class (Adobe Illustrator) I worked on my perspective project that is due next Thursday at the end of class (which I'm stressed about getting it done on time- but that's another story). In my afternoon class I finished my estimation (as in pricing) project with my group partner Laura and that project is done, so that's one less thing to worry about. Phew!

By the time I knew it - it was 5:30pm and it was time to go home. GOOD - because I was zonked. My sister stopped by on her way to class - as she wasn't feeling well.

At Walmart I bought a GEORGE skirt from Walmart. It was 19.98$. I wasn't so sure about it - so I went to return it and found out that it's at 14$ now. For 14$ it was more worth a second consideration. Anyhow, it also was worth a second consideration in a second colour. The one I returned was in white with turquoise flowers. Anyhow, the girl wouldn't give me a price match at their OWN store (not even a price match from another store!) and made me return the skirt. But Walmart has a 10 day price match if they reduce the price and it's been within 10 days that you've purchased the item. Well - I had bought the skirt 9 days ago. So - I did my little shopping (found a cute maternity shirt for 19.98$ and picked up the same skirt in pink (14$) and found a pair of shoes for 7$ - soooooo cute. They had the turqouise skirt on the floor - but they didn't have my size, and the girl at the cash who I returned it to - wouldn't give me the skirt to repurchase - she said if there was one on the floor I could purchase that at the new price, if not, I'd have to come back tomorrow when the merchandise goes back on the floor. So I waited til I got to the cash, and asked the cashier to get the skirt for me, but the girl at service wouldn't give it to me. My sister even tried. No luck. In the end - we had to wait like 10 minutes for a manager to come, we asked to speak to him, and he agreed with us - they do have a 10 day match price policy, and even still, they would have had to return the skirt to me at the price I actually paid, and I could have rebought the skirt..... That girl was such an idiot - it made me so mad. So I ended up spending so much more time at Walmart than I wanted to. But - in the end, the manager handed over the skirt - as I was right, and we told him to inform his employees of proper policy! In the end, I walked out a very happy camper.

I've been wondering lately about Tay Sachs.

What Is Tay-Sachs Disease?

Tay-Sachs disease is a fatal inherited disease of the central nervous system. The most common form of the disease affects babies. Affected babies appear healthy at birth and seem to develop normally for the first few months of life. After this time, development slows and symptoms begin. Sadly, there is no effective treatment for these babies. Babies with Tay-Sachs lack an enzyme (protein) called hexosaminidase A (hex A) necessary for breaking down certain fatty substances in brain and nerve cells. These substances build up and gradually destroy brain and nerve cells, until the entire central nervous system stops working. Symptoms of classical Tay-Sachs disease first appear at 4 to 6 months of age when an apparently healthy baby gradually stops smiling, crawling or turning over, loses its ability to grasp or reach out and, eventually, becomes blind, paralyzed and unaware of its surroundings. Death occurs by age 5.

Who Is at Risk of Tay-Sachs Disease?

Tay-Sachs disease occurs most frequently in descendants of Central and Eastern European (Ashkenazi) Jews. About one out of every 30 American Jews carries the Tay-Sachs gene. Some non-Jewish individuals of French-Canadian ancestry (from the East St. Lawrence River Valley of Quebec), and members of the Cajun population in Louisiana, are at similarly increased risk. These groups have about 100 times the rate of occurrence of other ethnic groups. The juvenile form of Tay-Sachs, however, may not be increased in these groups.

How Is the Disease Transmitted?

Only through heredity. A Tay-Sachs carrier has one normal gene for hex A and one Tay-Sachs gene. The carrier does not have the illness and leads a normal, healthy and full life. However, when two carriers become parents: There is a one-in-four chance that any child they have will inherit a Tay-Sachs gene from each parent and have the disease. There is a one-in-four chance that the child will inherit the normal gene from each parent and be completely free of the disease and the Tay-Sachs gene. There is a two-in-four chance that the child will inherit one of each kind of gene and be a carrier like the parents and free of disease. If only one parent is a carrier, none of their children can have the disease, but each child has a 50-50 chance of inheriting the Tay-Sachs gene and being a carrier.

I first learned about Tay Sachs when my rabbi who was marrying Jamie & I mentioned that we should get tested before getting married, that he recommends this to all this clients. I say client, because technically we did hire him to marry us, as we don't belong to his congregation. We never got tested before getting married, I didn't think much of it then, and apparently I don't know where to even get tested, as the Montreal Children's hospital will only test you under 18 years of age - and there isn't many other places that do it.

My mom seems to think that I may have been tested back in high school or elementary school and is looking for my medical records from back then (which would be nice to have).

Anyhow, this evening I took a self night, didn't get any knitting done at all - I had some other things to take care of - but wish I had time. I took care of some homework for tomorrow and I should go crawl into bed now. Every day has been a long day lately, and I'm just frankly exhausted come early evening - even though I crawl into bed, it still takes me hours to fall asleep - sucky - really.

Today in my montage class we ACTUALLY did a lecture/tutorial and learned a few new things, but most of it was just revision on the software called Quark - so it was all just shit we already knew. I am finding that lately we've really not been learning much, at all - and it's just been the same old bruchures and pamphlets to put together. What a joke - I tell you.

The rain in Montreal just WON'T go away - and it looks as though it's going to last the entire week - even the weekend when we should be going to the country house for the long weekend (It's Victoria Day Weekend this upcoming weekend).

On the knitting front I've been working on my Clapotis, and I'm already on my third drop stitch repeat. It's sooo much fun to get to a stitch that you get to drop - and then drop it! I'm loving this pattern - a little repetative, but so easy - as I'm new to reading patterns.

Took a self night tonight, Jamie had some friends over - as he usually does on a Tuesday night. (Hockey is usually on!)

He finally was quiet for about an hour when I gave him this ball toy -
and he let me have some peace and quiet for a little while.

Aww. He's so cute. Really is... just a pain in the buttox sometimes, as he's just a puppy.

So... today... was another day full of just dog entertaining. It really is a full time job living with a puppy. He was pretty good most of the day, he even let me have some time in the afternoon, while he slept, I went to Loblaws and picked up a digital photo order that I made over the internet last night, and then went to do a quick errand at Walmart (found the most awesome crochet hooks and knitting needles on sale as well as this gorgeous yarn (1 lb for 4.97$ - it was this big bag - and I love it - so I got it in 3 different colours - black, a beige with another colour in it as well as a grey with another colour in it). I also got some brown shades of yarn to work on the ripple afghan that I started. It is coming along very nice. I was using the same yarn that my grandmother gave me - which the colours don't exist anymore, so I had to find similar colours, and I'll just use the yarn my grandmother gave me to do the borders on both sides of the blanket - this way I don't run out and it doesn't look awful. I am so excited to start finishing up the afghan! So many projects that I want to work on - so little time.

I was so happy when my sister came home from work today, as Bosco was being a little bugger from about 4-5pm, but then from about 5-6pm, we napped on the upstairs carpeted landing - he using me as a pillow - it was cute and comforting. It also was great to take a nap - seeing as though I only got about 5 hours of sleep last night. I finally fell asleep close to 2:30pm and had to get up this morning at 7:30 am to let the dog out to pee and wake up my sister for work. So I'm zonked.

This evening after getting home I did a few things around the house, putting away my overnight bag and stuff, and then eventually people started coming for our poker night. We played, it was fun, and I made it further in the game than I usually do - and then I went into the other room and just did my own shtick. Since it was mainly Jamie's friends who were left and I was tired and didn't feel like hanging out anymore.
