2012 Meme

MEME

The first sentence (or two in my case!) of each first post of the month for 2012:
January: While I didn't reach my 2011 knitting & crochet goals (to surpass what I knit & crochet in 2010), I realized that in 2010, for 11/12 of the year, I had only 2 children, and was on modified activity (practical bed rest) for half the year, with Quentin's high risk pregnancy.
February: I started a knitting project, that is quite cute. (Side note: I never finished it, oops!)
March:Congrats to the 2 winners of the Colouring Wallets!
April: - Lovin' this Kimbra song, Settle Down.
May: Last week I attended a vernissage at Sean & Mack’s daycare.
June: Two weeks ago, I finished up my hitchhiker scarf.
July: Happy Canada Day dear readers!
August: I’ve finally been making great progress on my Cardigan.
September: HELLO HOTTIE! I'd like to look at this all day long!
October: Love this Eggstra Space Egg holder.
November: Hey everyone!
December: On Friday, my baby turned 2.

I love doing this Meme each year. Here's a link to my 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007, and 2006 ones!

My Year in Review

My year in review: In January I rushed Sean to the Montreal Children’s Hospital when he broke out in Hives from head to toe and said it hurt to breathe after he ate 3 peaches. In February I took the 3 kids to Florida for a week to visit my grandmother. We also took an emergency trip to a Clinic while in Florida as Sean had another reaction (to what, we still don’t know). In March, Sean was taken for allergy testing at the Montreal Children’s Hospital and discovered he is indeed allergic to Peaches and Nectarines. In April, I took a workshop with Catherine McKenzie and Shawn Klomparens (to of my fave authors) and lost my first 20 lbs of 2012. Quentin also climbed happily into the toilet for my fave picture of the year. In May, I got to meet the beautiful Sarah Mlynowski, Sean did further testing for his allergies to discover he’s allergic to cherries & apricots in addition to the peaches & nectarines and we planted our garden. I also got the best mother’s day present ever. In June, Sean graduated from daycare (but stayed until mid-August)(here are his handsome daycare grad photos), Quentin started his first day of daycare, I turned 31 and Mack turned 4. I also reached my weight loss goal!  In July we took Sean to his first Alouette’s game, and I started golfing weekly for the first time in years. In August Sean started his first day of Kindergarten, and finished his last day of daycare.  In September, Jamie & I celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary. We also went to ComicCon Montreal. In October I celebrated my 7th blogaversary. In November Quentin got a big boy bed just before he turned 2.  In December, Sean turned 6, we got some goldfish and have been reflecting on the past year.  I can't believe 2012 flew by in a flash. It's been an interesting year, and I can't wait to see what 2013 has in store for us.

12.31.10 :: A year in review

lunchfoodcourt

Today I was alone with the kids as the daycare was closed, so I picked up my mom and headed to the mall. We met up with my sister-in-law, nephew, step-mother-in-law & sister-in-law's boyfriend. We had lunch at the mall, and ran a few errands. (I got some new nipples (slow flow) for Quentin's bottles and hopefully now formula won't leak out of his mouth while he's eating).

nanamackquen

Quentin, Nana & Mackenzie.
Nana's wearing the vest I knit her.

andmerlquen

Quentin meeting his Aunt & cousin for the first time.

My year in review: In January I got to take a trip with the kids to Florida for a week. In February I participated in the knitting olympics, and knit a sweater (my first ever) in 16 days. I am quite proud of that accomplishment. In March, I participated in Earth Hour, hosted my very first jewish holiday seder at my house, and finished my first children's sweater design (I will get the pattern published - I promise!). In April, I got to meet up with the wonderful Cynthia & the wonderful Bea in British Columbia for a week. Mackenzie came along with me as well. We crafted, knit, crochet, did some sewing & had a good time. I also found out RIGHT before leaving that I was pregnant due in December of 2010. Though, we didn't announce my pregnancy until I was 12 weeks. In May, we planted our vegetable garden and I cut out some really immature people out of my life, and after a lot of consideration and thinking, I'm 150% happy that I got rid of that immaturity out of my life. In June, we had our 12 week screen and were told we were having a baby girl. I turned 29, and Mackenzie turned 2. In July I was diagnosed with Complete Placenta Praevia & found out we were actually having a boy (6 weeks after the first ultrasound). In August I got my new mini van and released an e-book with all my sock patterns. We took a family vacation to New Jersey & Pennsylvnia & got to go to Sesame Place & Eagles Training Camp. In September, Jamie & I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary. In October I celebrated my 5th blogaversary. In November after quite the complicated pregnancy, I gave birth to our 3rd son, Quentin Myles. I also got to attend Anne Hanson's workshop and had a fabulous time. In December, Sean turned 4, Jamie turned 35 and we reflected on the past year. I can't believe 2010 is now over. It's been a good year, but I can't wait to see what 2011 has in store for us.

Knitting/Crochet/Sewing in review:

FO2010

This year I knit & crochet 37 projects. 1 pair of socks, 8 bookmarks, 3 dishcloths, 1 afghan, 1 adult hat, 6 children's hats, 7 baby sweaters, 1 adult sweater, 4 cowls, 2 shawls & 3 misc. items (headband, 2 baby wraps). Actually, make that 38 projects, I forgot to include Cache Coeur. (And I'm totally not spending time to re-do this collage, oops!)

sew

I also took another sewing class this year, and popped out 12 projects. A pair of shorts, a few pouches, some baby toys, baby booties, a nursing wrap, and some misc. items. I love it. And quite impressed with my accomplishments.

MEME

The first sentence (or two in my case!) of each first post of the month for 2010:

January: A new year.
February: Sean is 161 weeks old today.
March: Sean is 165 weeks old today.
April: A while ago, I heard in the USA that there was a program called The Cinderella Project (this links the BC, Canada one).
May: We had a very busy day today.
June: Wow! It’s June. How’d that happen? Really!?
July: Mack is 106 weeks old today.
August: Today we finally made it out to Jamie’s Ball game.
September: Wow, September? Already? Really?
October: October Calendars are ready!
November: Sean is 200 weeks old today.
December: Hello!! We're alive! And finally home!

marshmallowpie

Tonight we celebrated New Years Eve with 2 friends over fondu dinner. We watched the Habs game (we won 3-2 in overtime over the Florida Panthers). I baked this "cake" for dessert (though I altered it to not have Christmas colors). It was sinfully delicious. (Diet starts tomorrow - we'll talk more about that tomorrow).

Hope you all have a wonderful evening & Happy New Year! Thanks for being a reader, commenter, friend. It's been quite the year. Let's see what's in store for us for 2011!

december thirty-one

Last day of the year. Wow. Really. I cannot tell you where the last year has gone? It's flown by like you wouldn't believe. I feel like just yesterday 2009 began. Though I probably say the same thing every year!? And my parents were right, as soon as you have kids and get older, time does pass a lot quicker than you'd like. And each year goes faster and faster and faster.

I baked some fresh oatmeal cookies today. They are so easy to make and delicious and addictive.

We played with costumes today too.

Though I couldn't get my husband or Sean to take a picture wearing the 'stache. Mack wasn't 100% happy about it either and I think it may have scared him. Though, isn't this picture just too cute with him wearing it? I even tried to bribe Sean with 10 new marbles, 2 new hotwheel cars, and a lollypop and he still wouldn't take just one picture with the 'stache. Smart kid. He's standing on daddy's side with him saying "mommy is crazy today"...! Oh well.

We played with marbles.

Rather, Sean lined them all up in a straight perfect row.

He did a great job at it might I add.

We observed.

And we smiled and had some giggles.

We checked out the larger marbles that were too big for the line-up.

A very busy day we had on New Years Eve (Day!)

From our house to yours - Happy New Year! May 2010 be a great year!

Mack says hi too! And Happy New Year!

Here is my current progress on my Mara Shawl. While I was hoping to have it finished by the end of the year, (which is not happening), I really have no idea what on earth I was thinking that I'd be able to knit it within a week. Maybe if I didn't have 2 young kids and other priorities, I could have finished it within a week.

I do this every year sometime in December, but forgot about it until today:

MEME
The first sentence (or two in my case!) of each first post of the month for 2009:
January: January First. Wow. Where did 2008 go?
February: Sean is 109 weeks old today. (And getting harder and harder to photograph!)
March: Sean is 113 weeks old today.
April: Raverly decided that it would be a funny April Fool's joke to give everyone a hat.
May: I swore I would never talk about my child's bowel movements, ever.
June: Happy Birthday Madeleine! Hope you have a great birthday!
July: Mack is 54 weeks old today.
August: Mack woke up with 99.6 fever this morning.
September: his morning's drop off for Sean at daycare was a disaster again.
October: It's October first. This means the beginning of the Habs season.
November: Sean is 148 weeks old today.
December: I figured it out! I sat there during Twilight on Sunday night thinking "Wow, Victoria looks familiar"... but couldn't place her.
I love doing this Meme each year. Here's a link to my 2008, 2007, and 2006 ones!
Finally before I leave you for my guests whom are about to arrive shortly, to watch the Habs game that starts at 5pm, and then stay for a fondu dinner, I want to show you my finished objects of 2009!

In chronological order, I've finished: Satellite Girl, Mitered Earrings, I-Cord Necklace, Nite Owl, Caryn's Bridal Shower Afghan, Moss Block Cardigan, Norma's Mitered Square Vest, Chevron Scarf, Queen Anne's Lace, Misty Garden, Rhumb, Ishbel, On No! Not Another Clapotis, Jubilee, Macduff, Desirée's Sock, Sean's Daycare Blanket, One Round Bracelet, Mack's Best Friend's Birthday Blanket, Toddler Tube Socks, A List of Things, Child's Hat, Chemo Cap, Grape Vines, Go Habs Go Socks, Jordyn's Blanket, Bella's Mittens, Hackie Sack I, Mom's Seaweed Cowl, Hackie Sack II.

I am quite impressed with my finished objects for 2009. The include:

9 pairs of socks (8 of which are my own design. I actually designed 11 pairs of socks in 2009)!
5 items that are considered accessories
4 blankets
2 garments (sweaters in this case)
4 scarves
2 shawls
3 hats
and 1 pair of mittens!

I have 30 finished objects for 2009 and I'm entering 2010 with 5 UFO's. I think that's not so bad at all. I thought it was a lot worse, but it's really not.

My 11 designs for 2009 are: Possibility, Grape Vines, Desirée's Pocket, A List of Things, Jubilee, Rhumb, Tastes Just Like Candy, XX XY, Nite Owl, Amelah and Satellite Girl. They are all available for download on Ravelry. Shortly I will have them listed in my shop for purchase as well.

Here's to a wonderful 2010! May all your wishes in 2010 come true! I haven't yet figured out all my new years resolutions, but I will let you know when I come up with them in a few days what they are! Do you have any resolutions for 2010? If so, what are they?

february twenty-four :: 36 weeks old

Mack is 36 weeks old today.

Since Sean was still with a bit of a runny nose today, I kept him home from daycare again today, so I didn't get to go to Mack's swimming class this morning, which is fine because I probably would have skipped it anyhow, I wasn't in the mood to go to that class today. Today, the thought of going into the pool for 30 minutes and the work around getting Mack ready and then changed at the end, just didn't appeal to me.

Late morning I had Melanie & Ariella over for a while. Melanie's got the cutest little belly bump ever. She's due the week of Mack's 1st birthday (around). I am very excited for her, she's also having a little boy. Little boys rock!

Ariella came with her daughter Naomi, who is 6 months older than Sean. They were so cute playing together. It's also amazing to see the difference that 6 months of age can bring, also the differences between girls and boys.

Melanie stayed for lunch, I made some pesto pasta. I heart pesto pasta. I don't get to eat it often, as Jamie's not a big fan of it, so if he's home for dinner, I'm usually eating something he can eat too. But I picked up a huge jar of pesto on Saturday at Costco and I'm just loving it!!

I was supposed to go to the Habs game tonight with my sister, though I wasn't feeling too hot this afternoon/evening, so I stayed in. Apparently (by watching) I missed a very good game. Darn! We beat Vancouver and it was a great game to watch. Oh well... I still have tickets in March, so that will be fun.

Ruby sent me over to her blog for this, so I am going to do the same.

Be first 5 people to respond to this that you want to participate in this, and you will get something made by me, my choice of what I make for you, this offer does have some restrictions and limitations. I make no guarantees that you will like what I make for you, but what I create will be just for you. It'll be done in the next 12 months and I reserve the right to do something unusual. The catch? You have to put this on your blog and do the same thing. (Please leave your email address if I don't have it already).

december twelve :: 102 weeks old

Sean is 102 weeks old today. 2 weeks left until his birthday.

Some cool stuff to show you today:

I am a huge Litte Tikes Turtle Sandbox fan. So much, that when I found this plate & bowl set I had to get it for my boys. It even came with a shovel for a spooon and a pitch fork (?) as a fork. Maybe it's a rake. It's super cute! I love it.

I've been crafting for the holidays:

I made 24 of them. As seen on Oprah!

I can't wait to hand them out for the holidays. (My black ink was running low as you can see on the above tags that will be on the Hot Chocolate Gift Bags I made). Got to re-order more black ink for my ink jet printer.

Sean's teacher said he was a bit better today. Though, we'll see how he is next week with eliminating sugar all weekend. Though, I'm hoping Sean's better for Monday. He's got a nasty runny nose right now. Poor kid. His teacher said to watch out, that 3 kids went home with fever today. I really hope he doesn't get sick - as his birthday party is next weekend. He needs to remain healthy!

This evening we had my in-laws over for dinner. It was a quiet evening.

MEME - I love to do this one every year!

The first sentence (or two in my case!) of each first post of the month for 2008:

January: Happy New Year. Today I woke up to crazy snow.
February: Dear Readers, Mrs. Knit & Purl Mama is violently ill.
March
: Saturday. Day one of my Slow Month.
April: This morning we had our class at the Y. Sean always tries to go straight for the painting.
May: Wow, it's May. January-February-March-April-May....! What?? It's May?? When did that happen?
June: Specs (on hat project) Now I just need that baby to come out to wear it! I'm sure it'll fit him right away.
July: Mackenzie is 2 weeks old today.
August: Sean is 83 weeks old today.
September: I'm finally able to show you that secret project I've been working on!
October: Last night I crashed on the couch as soon as I was done blogging. I was out cold by 9:45 pm with Mack in my arms.
November: My car (3 years old) has hit 33,333 kilometers. Ironically when I dumped my photos onto my computer, this was image number 333.
December: Mackie's playgroup today was small. A lot of people are sick and so it was just 6 of us with our 6 kids.

october twenty-seven

Today's earrings. I love these earrings. They were a fun find. The petals are actual shells.

This morning Sean was playing "daddy". He wanted to feed Mack his bottle, so I put on the bottle holder just in case. What was cute, is he wiped Mack's mouth with his bib after Mack was done drinking. It was too cute. The bottle holder now is pretty much useless. Mack isn't yet holding his own bottle yet, but he moves way too much now and the bottle goes flying. I can still sometimes use it in the car when Mack deperately needs his bottle and we have a long drive, otherwise, I don't use it so much anymore. Sean is such a big boy! I can't believe it. Tomorow he turns 22 months old.

Today we had Mack's playgroup. We didn't take any photos today, we were too lazy just chatting away. We'll be having an extra playgroup this week on Friday for Halloween. (I'm bringing a pasta salad - I'm researching recipes right now to decide how I want to make it). I cannot wait for the Halloween party this week. I hope that Mack will fit into the Banana costume because one of his two best friends will be a monkey (just like Sean will be at night while trick or treating)(I'm actually sending Sean to daycare in the morning as a Dragon incase it gets dirty - I dont want to risk that).

I got this tea infuser today. I cannot wait to pick up some loose tea to use it. It looks really neat. I'm HUGE on tea during the winter. Keeps me cozy.

Today's sunset. It was too gorgeous not to capture.

This evening Jamie & I sat on the couch and vegged out. I got some knitting done.

I was tagged by Cynthia!

Here are the rules: Link to the person who tagged you. Post the rules on your blog. Write six random things about yourself. Tag six people at the end of your post. Let each person know he or she has been tagged. Let the tagger know when your entry is up.

**Random Facts About Me**
1. I prefer white chocolate over regular chocolate.
2. I have 3 tattoos and I'm thinking about another one. I want to do something in honor of the boys, but their initials are S.&M. - 'nuff said. (I'm not getting that on my body! What would people think? Get your minds out of the gutter!)
3. I cannot stand the smell or taste of peanut butter. Makes me gag. Jamie has to eat it in the other room if he wants it.
4. I like to answer all my emails, but I'm super behind since Mack's birth. I hope to get back to catching up soon. I want my inbox cleaned out before the end of the year.
5. I don't drink coffee. Never even tried it. Though, I've tried coffee flavored things. Not a fan.
6. I used to take Tap, Ballet (pointe shoes) and Jazz.

I tag: Nadine, Lillian, Carolyn, Zonda, Tara, Jenny & Bertha.

Yarns I'm coveting:
Malabrigo Sock Yarn
Mama Blue Simple or Mama Blue Stripes
I'm still wanting some BMFA, but I've got a 10% off coupon (for being in the club) and a gift certificate from my SP12 Group for being their hostess, so I plan on using that.
I was coveting Sundara Sock yarn, but I'm splitting a membership to a sock club by Sundara, so I'll be getting 6 skeins of Sundara Sock yarn over the course of the winter! Finally, getting my hands on some Sundara!

september thirty :: 15 weeks old

Mack is 15 weeks old today.

(Do you like his apple pj's? First thing, I call him MacIntosh sometimes, so the apple pjs are perfect, and secondly, It's the Jewish New Year, and you eat apples with honey for a sweet new Year - how perfect are these pjs now?!) I love this set - they're from Joe at Loblaws.

He spent most of his day lounging around on the sofa.

Sean was kept home today from daycare as he woke up with a fever of 101.5, which was down from the 103.1 he went to bed with last night. Sean got up at 5:30 am this morning, got some tempra, had some milk and then slept in until 10 am. Mack, slept in until 7 am this morning. (Yesterday it was 6 am). I'm loving this sleeping through the night business. Finally! Sean still had slight temperature at 10 am when waking up, but it went away by noon and stayed away all day/evening. I took it again this evening before he went to bed - and nothing. He's cutting his 2 year old molars. (The 2nd set of molars for kids). I am hoping it's not a long process for all four to come in.

Today's earrings of the day! Now that I have the haircut to show off earrings - I'm taking advantage. I'll wear a different pair each day for the month of October... I think this will be fun!

I got some lovely mail today, which is my angel package from the Fave Color Swap 3 that I got burned in. This lovely package that I received today was a mixture of things from different people who wanted to help out to put it together.

This skein of Mama Llama Squish in Vino is from Lillian.

The skein of All Things Heather in Deep Raspberry is from Rhoda.

This gorgeous project bag is also from Rhoda.

And these hand knit Cherries are from Rhoda.
(Thanks Rhoda, I love them!)

And the rest is from donations from J.P.
(whom I spoiled in this swap back in the spring)
and from Sunny.

Panda Silk in 3011.

Orbit Gum - YUM!

"R" note cards and really cute sock needle caps.

And of course, in spirit of Halloween - Halloween themed cookie cutters. MMM, I smell cookies!

Thank you to Rhoda, Lillian, J.P. & Sunny for your thoughtfulness in being my angels for this swap. I love everything that was sent and can't wait to use it all! Also a thanks to the hostess for taking care of organizing this! I really appreciate it!

I've been tagged by I'm Loving Motherhood. Now I must share seven weird and crazy facts about myself.

1. I check the car at least 3 times before leaving it to make sure it's locked. And I always press the lock button on the clicker 3 times.

2. I use 2 wash cloths every morning to wash my face (one wet one dry). I then use another 1 in the shower. They have to be of a certain texture, or I don't like them.

3. (Just like Kelly does): I have to sleep on the left side of the bed (when you are looking at it from the foot of the bed). Because I sleep mostly on my right side and that allows me to face the edge of the bed.

4. I keep a cap on my toothbrush (like the travel ones) so that no dirt or dust will touch my toothbrush.

5. I'm a disorganized person, but my messes are organized in neat piles.

6. I check my mailbox in the morning obsessively, even though I know what time my mailman comes. Usually he rings my bell anyhow to say hello and see the kiddies.

7. I like it when links open up in a new window or new tab (Firefox). I can't stand it when you're on a website and the link opens in the same window. I can't explain why I like new windows/tabs, I just do!

I tag: Cynthia, Rhoda, Tara, Bertha, Lillian, Andrea & Caroline. (Amy, I'd tag you but you were tagged by Kelly, and Bea, I'd tag you too - but I think you were just tagged? If not, tag you're both it!)

This evening we went to my Aunt's house for dinner. It was great to see everyone. Sean was upset when we got there, I think there was way too many people for his liking. I'm not really sure what's going on - but maybe he's still not feeling 100%, maybe his molar is cutting and hurting, or maybe starting daycare is having negative effects on him (like maybe he thinks I may leave him places whenever we go out). I really cannot wait until this "getting used to" daycare phase is over with..... because it's just killing me inside. Poor little guy. He has to understand that I am coming back to pick him up! Also - he has fun at daycare playing and such, so I hope it doesn't take too much longer for him to get adjusted. It just sucks that he missed out today (because of the fever) and he's missing out tomorrow because we have a lunch for Rosh Hashanah with Jamie's mom's side of the family.

Thursday I do not have a babysitter for Mack in the morning, so Sean will be going to daycare instead of the program at the Y... which brought me to my decision that I'm pulling Sean out of the Y, unfortunately, and he'll just be going to daycare only. It'll be too much to bring him to the Y twice a week to drop him off for 2 hours, to then have to go back and pick him up to bring him to daycare. It's a schlep for no reason. I've emailed the coordinator of the Y, to find out how much they'll be refunding me, (I've already given a deposit plus 2 payments, I'll be losing my deposit and they'll figure out how much I owe for the 3 classes we did attend). It's too bad, but I can't see it working by leaving him in the class there as well. It's just too much.

I'm off to feed Mack and close my eyes. I started a new book, but I'm too tired to read tonight.

june eight

Today Sean & I had Jakob's friends birthday party. Last week we had his family birthday party. Since we fall into both categories, we go to attend both! It was a lot of fun, and we got to go swimming. I think I got way too much sun, as my shoulders are peeling a little. It felt great to be in the pool (I feel weightless in the pool and want to stay there until I give birth!) and we had a great time.

When we had cake time, we were escorted into my Aunt's basement. I haven't been down there in a while (the last few times I'd been over I stayed upstairs). To my surprise, I saw this behind the bar. To be honest, it's a little funny. I got a good chuckle.

My grandmother who was there says it used to be in my Uncle's shop, when she used to work there. Jenn.... you wanna share the story behind this mannequin, who seems to be missing hands, behind the bar?? I'm DAMN curious!

Here is the start of my misty garden scarf . I'm knitting Misty Garden by Jo Sharp. I am loving this pattern, very simple yet looks super gorgeous. I'll keep you updated on the scarf.

This evening I had dinner with my family, which was nice. Just a simple BBQ. Jamie had baseball, so he went to that. I was going to go and watch his game, however, it was 30°C + today, and there was no way I was sitting outside at a baseball field in that weather, at a day short of being 9 months pregnant. Jamie understood.

Tomorrow I go to the OB in the morning, 36 weeks pregnant tomorrow, the start of my 9th month of pregnancy. I'm really hoping that I'm having this baby in the next two weeks, I'm sooo done being pregnant! I honestly feel that it will be so much easier with Mackenzie on the outside than having him inside my belly. I say this because I cannot pick up Sean anymore, I cannot bend down to Sean's level, even cuddling with Sean is getting to be impossible (and the kid just wants to cuddle with his mommy!) Tomorrow afternoon my mom and sister are taking Sean for the afternoon so I can make a huge batch of my homemade meat sauce as well as possible some meatballs. I also will be finalizing the June Sock Club kits for mailing. The should go out in the mail tomorrow, if not on Tuesday.

Wow... 36 weeks pregnant tomorrow. 36 weeks equals 9 months. That's insane. Where has the last 9 months gone? Next Monday, on my 27th birthday, I'm 37 weeks pregnant, which is full term. FULL TERM. Next week. What???!! The countdown on my sidebar reads 29 days left as of today. Under 30 days left! Ahhhhh! Jamie actually put together the basinette today, which is now in our bedroom. I hope Mack doesn't hate the thing like his brother did. I could not get Sean to sleep in that thing! Still a few things to do to prepare for Mack's arrival, but I hope to get some stuff done tomorrow afternoon while Sean is hanging out with his grandmother & aunt!

This evening I got no knitting done, instead I worked on my SP12 matches. They've all gone out in email. If you're in my group, please go check your secret email accounts. That's where I emailed them!
